66 /100 King of the Belgians (Bar) 27 MAIN STREET, Decent if unassuming beer pub in the middle of Hartford. Full of character - and characters. A pub where people talk to one another. On my visit the selection of the four cask was quite ordinary (Adnams, Oakham, Black Sheep), the ’coming soon’ board promised slightly more exotic delights in the form of Nene Valley and York. As befits the name there are a few Belgian bottles, or you can go back in time and have a Manns Brown Ale. Not a destination, nor a tickers’ pub, but worth checking out if you’re in the area. |
70 /100 Chime (Restaurant) 283 CHESTER ROAD Trendy new restaurant. We just went in for drinks on a thurs night and it seemed busy. 3 real ales on tap plus non standard Euro lagers which was good. Would like to come here again for a meal |
42 /100 Red Lion (Bar) 277 CHESTER ROAD Traditional pub serving real ale. We went in on a Thursday night and found UKIP were holding their meeting there. So if you like having a pint of real ale surrounded by xenophobic, jingoistic, bigoted little Englanders then this is the pub for you. The only amusing thing about our visit was me having my photo taken giving the Vs to the UKIP banner, this caused the barmaid to have fits of laughter and a few raised eyebrows from the UKIPers |
