“This place is Nirvana for folks like me trying to score some Mississippi and Louisiana beers to rate at a very modest price. They have cooler full of local craft beers available as singles for a price $12 for a mixed six. I found 6 packs worth (72 unique beers) here. Now the fun begins.“

“Paid a visit on a Southern road trip with a focus on sampling Mississippi beers. I was a bit disappointed in what a low percentage of their beer list focused on local beers. Still, it was a nice stop and I notched a few local beer ratings. Food options were non existent.“

“It doesn't get better than this in MS. One of 3 breweries in this little town and easily the best and most ambitious. I visited on a Thursday evening and it was pretty lively, with a stand-up comedy night and some other event. But I was there for the beer of course. They had 20+ taps, spanning styles from smoothie and fluff sours, to IPAs, to (barrel aged) dark & heavy beers. 4 oz pours of everything available, plus the servers are happy to do tastes. I enjoyed almost everything I had -- they showed a remarkable competence at some of these bigger styles, which I didn't expect for rural MS. Great spot. Highly recommended.“

“Nice little brewery in the middle of a vacated historic downtown section. Very clean. Friendly folks working there. Only way to drink their beers is by paying for the tour they are willing to give if you are actually wanting it (their words). Beers were very good.“

“Right in the middle of downtown. Old time shiny plastic seats like out of a 1950s diner. Small tap list. Decent food. Very friendly. Worth a look.“

“Large place with a big front porch just a few minutes north of downtown. Smallish craft selection, mainly flagship stuff from Abita and Lazy Magnolia; just one local SPB on offer. College bar atmosphere. OK place.“

“This place just opened a month ago. Six taps for growlers or capped pints. Fairly large bottle selection included lots of local stuff. Very friendly, knowledgeable staff, one of whom does the QA program at SPB. They do cigars also, and are planning to open a smoking patio this summer. Plenty of parking. Great place.“

“This is an Exxon station. But don’t let that put you off. I drove past it initially, then had to circle back. The selection is fairly large, very good for the area, and they do growlers. I also found a few barrel aged SPB beers that the brewery didn’t have. Worth the 10 minute drive west of town.“

“New place in the middle of downtown. Bar on one end and restaurant tables. Flights are 4 six ounce pours. Selection is amazing, with tons of local beers on draft and in bottles. Brewers were hanging out there before the festival I was in town to attend. Food was very tasty pub grub. Friendly efficient service despite being comfortably crowded. The new must-stop in Hattiesburg.“

“Visited late February, 2016 on my way to Texas. I ate dinner at The Keg and Barrel and then came to Mahogany bar as it was right next to my hotel and I could walk. If you have to choose one, I highly recommend The Keg & Barrel. I had a much better experience there. Anyway, Mahogany Bar is sort of hard to find if you’re not paying attention. It’s in the front of some restaurant or something... Travlr’s rating says Crescent City, but I think it was something else when I was there... Parrot something, maybe? I dunno - look it up. Anyway... old wooden bar type place, dimly lit. It was mildly busy when I was there, but nothing crazy. Plenty of room at the bar. The service was... weird... and bad, at times. One of the bartenders was beer knowledgeable but it seemed like he was out to prove it to me. Kept making suggestions and treating me like an idiot until I finally told him it was fine, I knew what I was going to get and was just trying new things. The first bartender told me I could get a flight and then the second told me I couldn’t. I was very confused and they explained to me that they don’t do flights because it’s annoying and wasteful, but like I said, it wasn’t busy. There were 3 bartenders and most of the time they were standing around doing nothing. So they ended up giving me one flight of four beers, about four ounce samples, and they charged me for a pint of the most expensive beer. Whatevs. After giving me the flight, the two bartenders stood down the bar and complained to each other about how annoying flights are and they hate doing them... while I could clearly here them talking. From there on out they declined me flights and gave me overpriced half-pours of beers. I’m really not sure why this place is always featured in Draft Magazine and on websites about best bars in America, etc. The Keg & Barrel had just as much beer, if not more, better beer, and much better service and availability. Mahogany Bar struck me as a bro bar, not a beer bar. The clientele was mostly bros going after hoes and most of them were overserved. It was so bad this particular night that a fight started to break out and people got kicked out of the bar. Bartenders were bragging about how many full bottles (of liquor) certain tables had drank. So anyway, come here if you wish. It’s close to the interstate and hotels and right on the main drag, but if it were me and I only had time for one, The Keg & Barrel would definitely be my stop.“

“Visited late February, 2016 on my way to Texas. I knew I wanted to go here and Mahogany Bar and a local friend told me to meet him here because he liked it better and boy was he right in the end. See my Mahogany Bar rating for details. Keg & Barrel was pretty busy when I arrived but we were able to get two seats at the bar. The service was a touch slow and you could tell they were annoyed that I wanted flights because it was busy, but they obliged and were able to talk about the beers. I got the shrimp and grits which were AMAZING. I had lots of different beers via the flights, mostly Mississippi beers, and they were all solid. I was really surprised by the local brewery, Southern Prohibition. Anyway, The Keg & Barrel will definitely be my go-to when I’m in or passing through Hattiesburg. I had a great time there, lots of good beers, flights available, and awesome food. I’m actually hoping I can go back soon!“

“Excellent prices for growler fills. Bit high on pick six and singles. But they carry very limited seasonal selections. And have tap takeovers with merchandise giveaways which are always nice!“

“This place is essentially the back bar area of Crescent City Grill, although it does have its own entrance for nighttime use. Both places share the same beer menu, and Crescent City’s food is available inside Mahogany. It’s a newish building in a large shopping mall area, but has plenty of dark wood and faux tin ceilings to give it character. Food is seafood based, very tasty and well prepared. Young servers are enthusiastic and friendly; since I stopped in just for lunch I didn’t test their beer knowledge. Beer list is very large, with plenty of local and regional drafts and bottles. I’d come back to hit the bar section in the evening.“

“Been here twice and it was much better the 2nd time. Of course the 1st visit was 10+ years ago and the selection has changed dramatically since then! You can tell that the staff is well-trained in their beer offerings since our waitress easily provided recommendations for our party based on our varied requests. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in town. The bar is attached to a good restaurant and you can order from the same menu. Hattiesburg has more to offer than people realize.“

“My favorite place in town to grab a pint. Strong local selection and decent regional+ offerings. Converted residence that seems to have a strong local following. Bartenders are knowledgeable and fellow patrons are quick to converse.“

“10 bbl production warehouse that offers the usual MS tours for four bucks that also entitles you to six four ounce samples before, during or after. Beers are tasty and interesting. They had five different styles when I stopped by. Plenty of parking out front. Seemed to be very popular, with a dozen or so people on each tour. A worthwhile stop.“

“Very characterful old building, looks like it was someone’s house. Long L-shaped wooden bar it what probably used to be the dining room, and tables in the rest of the rooms. The tap handles emerge more or less randomly from a wooden panel. Tons of local and regional beers covering a decent range of styles, available in growlers too. Staff is really friendly and had good recommendations. The food was very tasty and creative. A must-visit in Hattiesburg.“

“This is a large grocery store, with beers tucked into the near left corner as you walk in. Very small selection of Belgians, and a fair amount of local stuff in singles. You can also build your own six for $8. Smattering of beers from other countries, mostly Latin America, mixed into those. Bombers also. Worthwhile stop.“

“This is a great bar in Hattiesburg. It has a great local selection - with offerings from small southern breweries (Lazy Magnolia of course, Yazoo, Tallgrass, Diamond Bear, and others). A relaxed atmosphere and great place to chill with a good beer. I’d recommend it highly - and there is not much else in Mississippi.“

“Corner Market is a specialty grocery store with multiple locations here in the Hattiesburg area. For this region they have an excellent selection of beers, a on duty butcher and a large selection of produce. They offer a pick 6 with about 50 different brews to chose from. This is a one stop shop for you weekend BBQ needs.“

“Live music almost every night, over sized courtyard with water feature and a large ever changing beer selction Some nights they open the Impressions Gallery (a art gallery connected to the bar) and you can enjoy some good art while sipping on your favorite brew. And remember $1 High Life while it last every night.“

Buffalo Wild Wings (Restaurant)

“If you like anything to do with any sport you can probably find it on a screen at Buffalo’s. They also have trivia and other games, smoking available on the patio which is recently upgraded. Their liquor selection really out weighs the beer selection, but its worth a try. Food is pretty good, Tuesday nights is 50 cent wing night and Thursday’s is 80 cents boneless wing night.“

“Nice selection of beers for a heart-of-the-Bible-belt Mississippi bar. Good food and friendly staff too. Enjoyed talking beer with Will and was surprised that he remembered my brother and I from our one previous visit(though we are 6’6" and 6’5" respectively). Very friendly clientele as well.“

“Very relaxing atmoshere. Nice and friendly staff. Unfortunately Mississippi doesn’t have a great selection of beer to choose from, but this place has the best selection in town. Parking can be a bit of a problem sometimes. Owners John Neal and Will Griffin are always egar to show their southern hospitality, and with cooking by Chef Michael Gordy, the Keg and Barrel is truley in a class on its own. Highly recommended“
