| 74 /100 Barking Dog Ale House (Restaurant) 77 WASHINGTON ST “Part of the hospitality group that owns the Barking Dog and the Ale House both in Amesbury. I’m never in Haverhill, but its spaciousness is certainly more attractive than either of the Amesbury bars. You won’t find anything here for less than $7. I didn’t even find anything that really made me mouth water, but I do remember Lunch being offered a while back.“ |

The inside has more cooler space with brand new floor and shelving that gives everything a clean and more organized look. The deli where you could grab a sandwich is also new and clean and relocated to the other side of the store. If you are anywhere in the area it really is worth a look. Distribution in MA is 5000 times better then New Hampshire so if your traveling through NH. Stop here to grab your beer.“ |

Seemed like a pleasant downtown spot in a nice old building with a pubby feel and plenty of their own beers on tap. Must visit again to get a better feel. Easily accessible by train from Boston although buying a ticket was a slight challenge at the the ticket window, mainly due to my UK "Haver-hill" pronunciation (there’s a place in England with the same name). The preferred local pronunciation seems to be "Hay-vrill"“ |

Both times I eat the food was above average which is a plus. They have a solid draft list of 40 taps and 2 cask pumps. The drafts rotate often and even the biggest beer nerds can find something they haven’t had. ( I have always been able to get 2 or 3 different every visit) I will be a repeat customer because of the draft list and food.So far all the staff has been good and tries to use proper glassware whenever possible. You really should give it a try if you are anywhere in the area.“ |

My grilled chicken sandwich was well made and my buddy’s Poutine was enjoyed as well. The bartender was friendly, witty and gave free tasters of whatever we asked for. He even knows what he is selling which is always a plus when selling craft brews. (not the case in all small New England places) The beers are up and down in taste, guessing it’s mostly your own palate. I will return here based on the updated menu and to try a few more brews of course.“ |

| 62 /100 100 WASHINGTON STREET “Can’t particularly say that I’m much of a fan of this place, but because of the facts that it’s an accessibly easy spot to meetup with folks and it closes late for Essex County standards, it serves its purposes as a decent downtown function that nobody would disagree to dropping in on. The building is located three minutes by foot from the MVRTA/Washington Square Transit Station and just about everyone you bump into on the street either knows where it is, or is on their way there. But the employees and bartenders strangely remind me of a cast from a quirky 90s late-night sitcom: there’s the invasive drifter who acts as if he just smoked too much pot and asks questions along the same lines; there’s the pretty yet unmemorable girl who secretly wants to join the circus but bar-tends in the meantime to make ends meet; there’s the guy who resembles a famous move actor and can’t help but hit on intoxicated women at the bar. A fun bunch of ragtag misfits whose behavior, at least in the times I was present, mirrored those of the customers. It’s dimly-lit, and that’s a plus for me, but it also happens to be kind of cluttered which is a shame as it has so much space. The food was filling but uninteresting and bland. If they have something good and limited on tap, I think it’s worth checking out, but if there’s nothing new and/or desirable, I simply wouldn’t go. Or maybe I would, but I don’t think I’d get a beer. It depends.“ |
| 76 /100 One Stop Market (Grocery Store) 651 BROADWAY “This is tucked away on Rt 97 on the western outskirts of Haverhill and looks unassuming upon first glance. It is a convenience store with a package store license.
First of all there were several shelves of bombers featuring many regionals and a number of names I had not seen before. They give a discount if you buy so many (I think 6) bombers. The shelves are jammed with bombers and you have to walk all around the shelves to see them all. There were a few oddities or limited circulation brews. In the back there is a macros beer cooler and a beer cave. Mix & match 6 packs are allowed when you pick from a specific shelf but there was a wide array of choices on that shelf. There were many pots of freshly brewed Green Mountain coffee for sale if you wanted to buy your brews and take a coffee for the road.
It is located next to a restaurant called the Grill Next Door, which has some 45-50 craft brews on tap itself. So you can grab comfort food next door and then go beer shopping when you are finished. How ideal is that? It small in size but big in quality. Worth the visit if you are in this area.“ |

There is one dry aisle devoted to crafts with such regional favorites as Clown Shoes, Wachusetts, Samuel Adams, and CBC as well as your standard Belgian and European imports. There are three coolers with beer in them but otherwise the store is mainly a hard liquor and wine store. You get an occasional surprise find.“ |

(Beer Store) 400 LOWELL AVE, STE 2 “Located in the Westgate Plaza next to Market Basket and close to a Chunky’s Movie Theater, this place is your typical Massachusetts package store with about 95% hard liquor and wine and 5% beer. Their beer selection is not extraordinary but it is not terrible. Macros rule the day but they carry a number regional favorites such as Ipswich, Haverhill, and Berkshire. They have a small shelf toward the back of the store where they display beers by country or state of origin. Beers are mainly shelved or refrigerated by brewer not style. I prefer that method. The staff are cordial and they will help you if asked but they do not go out of their way to do so. Every once in a while you find an oddity for a cheap price like one time I found an 8-pack of Little Kings Cream Ale 7 ouncers selling for $1.99! But for the most part they sell what is readily available elsewhere. I visit this store frequently because I spend a lot of time in Haverhill and I can pick up a few beers here that I cannot find in N.H. But I would not call it a destination bottle shop.“ |

It was a little chilly, so just sat inside at the bar (didn’t get to see the nice patio area that the other reviewers mention). Overall, a pretty chill place to sit back and enjoy a beer, watch some sports on TV. There is a fairly large tap list (8 or so; about 1/2 are their regulars) with some interesting styles here and there (altbier, maibock, baltic porter) plus a cask offering. All the beers I tried were quite enjoyable. I didn’t order any food. Overall, a place I enjoyed and would visit again.“ |
| 78 /100 100 WASHINGTON STREET “From what I saw Haverhill is a pretty ugly little town but the pub is located in what appears to the nice downtown “touristy” strip. Don’t drive around like we did looking for a parking on the street, there’s parking in the back. Inside is pretty nice clean pub. The huge back patio sits over 100. Overall the pub is surprisingly nice and big for such a below-the-radar little town. Food ranges from basic burger/pizza to more elaborate dishes. Most meals are in the $10 to $20 range. I had a quesadilla and the girlfriend had a seafood plate and we were both very satisfied. Selection when I was there was 8 housebrew taps. Haverhill Brewery make some fine brews, from very light session beer to strong Belgian ale. This is a good brewpub and most beer you drink there will range from good to excellent. Good service. They sell a few bottles to go. This place is definitely worth a little detour.“ |

Parking was OK. The brewpub also gave you that feeling of a town from long ago, with a good view of the river from the back patio. A couple of tables up front, and a classic decent sized bar. The beer here is good, and a worthwhile stop if you are passing by. We had to time the trip, as it is not open everyday, noteably not on Monday’s. Service was fine. The cask beer was very good, and a good range of selection of styles, no guest taps.“ |

That aside, it’s a dive convienience store with a sub shop. One of their specialties is supposed to be brewing supplies. Upon arrival, I found that not only did they have a very small selection of brewing supplies which lacked some of the most basic of items (couldn’t even score a 1 gallon brewing jug), but I have yet to meet an employee there that has any idea about brewing. The brewing items are all coated in dust and their freshness is undoubtedly questionable. I have yet to sample the food there. Good place to go in a pinch if you need sanitizer or an airlock but that’s it.“ |

From the bar I had a good view of the brewing tanks. Several flat tube TV’s were on the wall along with a projection TV and patrons could watch the KENO numbers on another TV. There were eight brews available including, when I went, the seasonal Pumpkin Eater beer. The bartenders were friendly as were the waitresses. But even so, on a fairly slow Saturtday night, service was a bit slow. The menu seemed wide ranging and the prices were about average to above average. The spinach/artichoke dip I tried was gooey and very sour creamy. But the charbroiled burgers was excellent. I would go again but order a different appetizer.“ |

I walked out of there the other day with a Stone Bitter Chocolate Stout, Rogue Chocolate Stout, Hoppin’ Frog B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher, Rochefort Trappist 10 and a few Unibrou’s. A lot of desirable beer crammed into a small area.“ |

Now the beer, the brewpub had 8 beers on tap including the main attraction : the Leatherlips IPA which is very good. This place is definitely worth a visit once in a while.“ |

| 88 /100 100 WASHINGTON STREET “Located on a pretty cool street in downtown Haverhill, The Tap aka Haverhill Brewery is easy to find once you get parking which is on street. As you walk into the establishment you walk by the bar which is loaded with beer paraphernalia. The wood bar is filled with locals, possibly regulars, the atmoshpere is cozy and inviting, very nice. The main dining room has a brick interior, exposed pipe, fans and very high ceilings with pressed tin.
As we walked in the place was half empty on a saturday night around 8:45, we sat down to eat and I ordered the cask, "what is a cask" my waitress asked I tell her what it is and she still doesn’t know what I’m talking about so I order a regular pint. A few mintues later she comes back and tells me she ask the manager what a cask ale was and that it would be tapped that friday, so I was happy she asked. Besides that she was very friendly and a great waitress.
I ordered the burger and fries to go with my Leatherlips IPA which was nice, and my wife had the wild mushroom ravioli which she paried with the pumpkin ale and all the food and beers were great. The prices are good, for entrees, desserts, and beer overall. I definitely with be heading back again.

Very homey feeling at the bar with a view of the brewery’s guts through a window on the side. Brian, our bartender, went above and beyond the call of duty answering questions about the beer, Massachusetts, New England, pronunciation, and a myriad of other matters. He was a pleasure to talk to and if I lived in Haverhill, I know that The Tap would be where my butt would be parked in most of my free time.“ |

I guess it’s a Peabody pronunciation thing. Anyway, finally got here and the beer did not disappoint. The food was fine, just the normal bar food fare and the service was friendly and accomodating. I would definately go back if the opportunity arose.“ |

Really love this place, can’t say enough about how great it ties into downtown, great river view from the deck, inside is old world converted manufactoring mill with lots of wood and cool fixtures. Food is always solid and goes beyond traditional pub fare. Beer has always been great even though they’ve had three brewers in the past 3 years..that said all 3 brewers are fantasic in their own right.Great place, wish I lived closer.“ |

A short walk from the Haverhill commuter rail station. Nice interior, Bar is darkwood and brick with some murals on walls of local/nautical scenes. Seperate dining area has dark wood panels. Seperate function room downstairs. Black & white tile floor and seperate bar area. Nice deck in the back that overlooks the Merrimack river. Tap handles all are old shoe molds. | 74 /100 100 WASHINGTON STREET “Located in downtown haverhill on the main drag, this brewpub stood out in my mind because of the deck in the back. Huge deck, overlooking the Merrimack river. Although I was there at night, I am thinking it would be a great place to get a drink and sit outside on a nice warm day. The inside is nice with exposed brick, and seemed to have an English theme(the decor, not beer). Beer ranged from average to exceptional, the best being the Leatherlips IPA in my opinion. Bartender was very friendly and was very knowledgable about beer. Would go back if I was passing through.“ |

Good beers globally, though they would have passed unnoticed without the IPA which seems to be a regular in their lineup. I’d definitely be interested to return when they have other seasonals. Weak, slow, uncaring service on that particular evening.“ |

Beer quality ranged from fair to excellent but all were worth a try. Food was excellent. Only problem was the slow and forgetful, albeit friendly service from our server and the barmaid that served an incorrect beer (nitro stout - should have been a cask brown ale) and refused to exchange it saying that we were mistaken...“ |

The terrace out back must be wonderful in the heat of summer even though there is a parking lot between it and the river.“ |

The beers brewed onsite are served from the maturation tanks and are amazing, In my opinion the people from Cologne Germany would like this bar as the beers are Fresh &; and tasty. Food is great, the service and friendliness unmatched. They should have their Altbeer on now and it was a super sample when I tried it a couple of weeks ago, albeit not entirely ready, but the brewer offered me a taste, just because I had seen its label on the maturation vessel when I headed for the return station.
