“Nice inviting taproom. No seating at the bar but a few tables scattered around. 12 beers on tap, the ones I had were all fairly good. Surprisingly, I likey the Hazy IPA best.“

“Definitely the place for craftbeer in Helena. Nice setup...downstairs and up...plus a great upstairs deck looking out over the street ( I always enjoy that view best). I was on my way to Missoula where I knew there were more breweries and likely better beer than Helena...so I was forced to limit myself to one brewery...Blackfoot was the correct choice. The beers here are good and solid representations of their styles plus some nice specialty beers too. None of the beers were great as far as I was concerned (20/20 hindsight...I was right regarding better offerings in Missoula)...but a few were noteworthy. I definitely like the Single Malt Pale Ale (as did "3fourths" it seems)...as well as the Organic Pale Ale (OPA), and the Double Black Diamond Extreme Stout (although definitely not extreme ABV-wise at 7%..for extreme...the Belgium Quad met that description at 12.8%!)). The Kolsch & Oatmeal Stout were also good. Definitely the place to go in Helena...but I wouldn’t recommend taking I side trip just to Helena for craftbeer. I would say the MT craftbeer destination towns are Missoula & Bozeman.“

“Convinced my family to stop by Helena for a pit stop on our way from Glacier to Yellowstone. Killer ice cream two doors down if anybody else is in a similar boat and wants to sell this stop to the family. Place looks and feels great. Spacious interior full of wooden tables and barrels (for use as tables - not for aging beers as best I can tell). You can check out the brewing facilities through the window. Nice little outdoor area on the pedestrian mall. 8 taps included a couple of ambers, a pale, a wit, an IPA, an oatmeal stout, and a lemongrass ginger pale that was surprisingly tasty. Everything was $4/pint, with samplers available (4x4oz for $6). Free pretzels, but no other food as far as I could tell. Very friendly, warm, and helpful staff. Overall: if you find yourself in Helena, you should check this place out. I haven’t been anywhere else in town, so don’t know how it stacks up against the local competition, but I was pleasantly surprised by this place and wish I could have stuck around for a proper pint.“

“Attractive tasting room near the center of town, with eating places in the same building. Decent beers in a nice vinage industrial setting.“

“Passing through Montana. My stop in Helena lead me here. I got to add this fine place to ratebeer...? Right on! Well deserving! Quick service brought me two fine beers and a New York strip steak on garlic bread. It was very clean and I could tell they cared about the beer and the food. About 20 taps centered around a lot of local flavors. Only 2 macro beers so that spoke volumes. I recommend if you want good beers and good food.“

“The taproom is growing and this year has seen an explosion in live music events because of the acoustic upgrades in the main taproom. Their beer is some of the best in the state, perhaps the nation (with Tumbleweed IPA the flagship in my opinion). Sean Tobin, the brewmaster, loves to give impromptu tours of the brewery, highlighting local grains and hops. They sponsor a live hops trade in the early spring whose results are harvested and turned into "Neighborhood Ale" in the fall. Depending on the day (and whether there’s live music) you’ll find it empty or packed. The have a rotating art exhibit in one of the backrooms, and have a private space upstairs you can rent for small gatherings. They opened an outdoor patio/music area last summer and it’s a very pleasant place to listen to live music. The bands are both local and those passing through Helena. This summer we’ve seen country, blues, opera, jazz, rock, and folk bands there. And it’s mostly free shows. They’ve been canning some of their brews for a while, but just introduce Pillar cans (1/2 growler) which are made from any beer on tap, while you wait: perfect for taking on the river or to parties. Sean has fun with his beers, and at any given time you’ll find 1-4 one-off batches available for testing. Our standards are the Tumbleweed, Prickly Pear Pale Ale, Miners Gold, and the Golden Ale. (I can’t believe Tumbleweed isn’t on the list below). They only carry their own beers, but I’ve only had one dud out of the 30 or so brews I’ve sampled here. Service can be surly when they’re packed, but generally they are friendly and helpful (and the patrons are quick to share their preferences). You can bring your kids, but it’s probably not the best place to let them run around. The ambiance is casual, friendly, and perfect for after river / ski / lake outings.“

“I have been stopping in at Toppers for years. Yes, there in fact are a few outdated bottles on the shelves. However, there is simply no other local store within a country mile in terms of the selection of quality beers. Topper is also a great guy, and I will continue to be a regular. Thumbs up!“

“A "must-do" for any beer lover in the area! Next door are some great eating options, and downtown Helena has many great bars and restaurants, but one of the few BREWERIES is this one!“

“Very nice local’s bar (I guess that is really the only kind in Montana) right next door to the Blackfoot River brewery. They serve a lot of their beers, including some not on tap at the time in the brewpub, plus a handful of other Montana beers and a selection of American macros. Nice spot to hang out after the brewpub closing time of 8pm, and a good selection of beers. Good prices too, and they have a kitchen (though we didn’t try)“

“Great new space for the brewery, showing off a bit of the brewhouse and having some nice space. Seems there is an upstairs deck, which was crowded with a band playing the day I visited. 8 or so taps plus a couple of casks. Nice beers, very well put together. A must stop if you’re in the area.“

“cramped sports bar interior: teevees, loud noises, little to no elbow room at the bar. but the tap list is fairly good; about half house beer and half local/regional. that’s all i ask for. and since they serve food they open earlier than 2pm.“

“Yes, you need to watch out for old bottles here, but for Montana this is really good. A great selection of local singles along with a decent mix of global stuff. No, your not going to find a 020202 Vertical Epic, but you might just find a few jems. Worth the stop when in town!“

“Stopped during our tour of Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho, Western Montana and Western Wyoming regions. As we visited all the National Parks and Breweries summer 2004. We had a blast here. We met the owner as he was cleaning out one of the vessels. He gave us a huge tour and 2 cases of Lewis and Clark anniversary brew and tons of other swag. Pays to be nice and talk to the people. We went to the down stairs bar and we got to try all the brews and just had fun. Made us late to West Yellow Stone.“

“Sat at a table on the second floor right above the brew kettle. Felt the vibrations through the table during lunch. Cool. Beer was served too cold but staff were friendly and food was good. Big menu. Many of thier and local brews on tap as well as some surprises including Kokanee.“
