| 72 /100 White Lion (Bar) TOWN GATE “Just a couple of doors up the cobbled main street from the Cross Inn, this pub is mainly for drinking although snacks are available. There’s definitely a better rotating ale selection here than its neighbour and often boasts three real ciders too. The pub is traditional in style with the cosiest part being right in front of the serving area. It’s a nice place to relax in with a roaring fire in the winter months. The adjacent room has more tables but has a more spartan and impersonal feel to it, but if the weather is nice enough you’d probably choose to sit in the plant filled beer garden at the rear anyway. There’s just enough room in the narrow street for a picnic table out front too. Dogs and walkers always welcome here.“ |
| 66 /100 Cross Inn (Bar) 46 TOWN GATE “The first of two pubs if you enter the quaint hilltop stone village of Heptonstall from Hebden Bridge in the valley below. The pub in a stone building looks a little plainer than some of the old buildings that surround it on the cobbled streets but it is a friendly enough place inside. It has a large ground floor area with a slightly modern touch with the bar occupying the middle ground serving plenty of lagers and few ales too. Food has not always been served here but has recently started between midday and 8pm. The enclosed garden area to the rear is a little heavy in terms of stone given it is surrounded on four sides by walls but it is large enough to have an elevated garden platform and big enough to be able to find both sun and shade throughout the day. Dogs allowed.“ |
