76 /100 The Shakespeare (Bar) HAUPTSTRAßE 38 Rather small pub in the nice city centre. Went there on a Friday afternoon after it had just opened, and I was the only guest, with the owner and apparently his family sitting around. Nice atmosphere though, quite a bit of wood and classic pub interior with pleasant and quiet music in the background. Twelve taps, many of them from Vormann or Freigeist/The Monarchy, some well-known classics and a few less common craft beers, at least for this part of the country. The bottle list is quite similar, although with a strong leaning towards German and international craft beer and cider. Prices are quite good, I was also given the opportunity to get small tasting glasses, and flights will be available in the near future. Really nice pub, it’s actually a gem in the East-Ruhrgebiet beer desert, and I will definitely come back more often! |
