“Cool place literally a minute walk from the ferry terminal that is a great place to kill some time with a beer while waiting for your departure. Tap list is nothing special, but they do have some decent local craft, especially Persephone. Prices are okay, maybe a touch high. Plenty of seating including lots of bar seating. Friendly enough staff. Not worth going out of your way for - only if you happen to be in Horseshoe Bay.“

“Good place to kill an hour while waiting for your ferry. They have a few local brews on tap (maybe 8-10) and a similar amount in bottle. It’s a typical BC pub - so the atmosphere is terrible, corporate and cheap - but the beer list is good enough to warrant a visit, especially given its proximity to the ferry terminal and the dearth of other North Shore options. Worthy of mention, however, is the fact that while the latest incarnation of the Troller is from 2013, the older incarnation was the birthplace of craft brewing in BC back in 1982. Horseshoe Bay Brewing was across the street and the Troller was their home tap - a kludge workaround since brewpubs were still illegal at that time. The house beer, Bay Ale, is based on the original brewing notes from John Mitchell, who founded Horseshoe Bay Brewing. The beer is today brewed up at Howe Sound. So while the pub itself is mostly just a good place to drink a local beer while you wait for your ferry (unless of course you’re lucky enough to live in Horseshoe Bay), there is a strong historical connection to craft beer in BC that will be kept alive as long as the pub supports craft beer and keeps the Bay Ale on tap.“
