“front of the place is a beer store, kinda shitty one but had a couple of singles - the bar in the back was a ton better .. quite a nice lineup, for johnstown, but more of a night bar with a few offerings for the more enlightened“

“fuck this place. . lots of old bottles, the prick behind the bar argued with me that a 2 year old ipa was still good (tasted like copper) .. the taps had dust on them, had a pale ale on that hadn’t been made in a year .. food was pretty bad too .. a bar for assholes and yuppies who think drinking craft beer is the new cool thing to do .. i hope this place burns down, soon.“

“Previous postings here convinced me to make the trip down here from a Railfan holiday I was enjoying in nearby Cresson, PA. What a spot! I visited on May 15 and they were celebrating their annual Beer Mung. So, no food from the kitchen this trip. They had Bell’s Oberon on tap for those seeking a slice of summertime Michigan. I went with a delicious and fresh Spaten and a Franziskaner Dunkel. Kudos to bartender Dave who knows his beers and keeps a nice fridge. I returned to Cresson with a 6-pack of Hofbrau weiss and plans to drop by again the next time I was in the area. Highly recommended.“

“Visited New Year’s Eve and Day 2010. Overall beer menu was great, impressive selection of Belgian’s which reminds me of Sharp Edge of Pittsburgh. Most in bottles with a few decent drafts. Reasonably priced with affordable TO-GO pricing. Check their site for special events as you will find some rare barrels on tap every once in a while! Food wise, I had heard their wings were currently the best in Johnstown and I must say they were tasty.. the following evening we munched on Beer battered Fries and Sweet Potato Fries... excellent... overall a great place!“

“Finding a place like this in a neighborhood / city like this is equivalent to finding a Monet amongst a stack of paint by colors at a garage sale. They have an excellent selection of Belgians, probably one of the better that I’ve seen in western PA outside of Pittsburgh. The bartenders know their beer, but seem to be sort of slanted toward the Van Steenberg, seeing as how that’s who brews their in house dubbel and tripel. At any rate, they are happy to talk about beer and can handle the geekdom. Good prices on most things, but there are a few select bottles that are outrageously priced. The food is very tasty pub / bar fare. Overall, a great experience, and especially nice for those of us who don’t live right in Pittsburgh.“

“great imports in Johnstown no less. great place for a Chimay Blue followed by Wittekerke. food is almost as good as the beer, ok not quite as the beer is excellent. NO JERKS ALLOWED makes this an extremely friendly place with very knowledgeable staff.“

“Best place within hundred miles to drink good beer. Best selection of imported without going to a major city, good selection of micros. Great unique food. Staff have more knowledge of beer than anywhere else iv visited. Bring your beer guide and work your way down the beer menu.“

“Considering that this joint is in unassuming and low-on-the-culture-scale Johnstown, the selection is pretty terrific and the staff is really friendly and fairly knowledgeable about the beers. I have tried a few of the appetizers and was impressed. The place gets heavy with cigarette smoke, though and that is a big detractor for me--affects my tasting and I smell like an ashtray when I get home.“

“Has many domestic micros on draft. Good, but not great selection. Good place to hang out. Certainly keeps your attention.“

“Awesome place. Unbelievable that this type of palce exists in little Johnstown. Almost makes it bearable. Selection is tops. Atmosphoere is great. They have a nice flat screen that cycles through pictures they download off the internet. Very amusing. Slightly addictive. Food is good, but doesn’t match the beer. Bartenders know their stuff“

“Holy cow....I can’t believe I found a place like this in Cambria County. The beer selection at the Southside covers a wide spectrum and they’re in stock! There are your standard import staples but their selection of unique tasting ales blows my taste buds. Those guys there must really bust their humps to get some of the names I saw. The food was wonderfully delicious. Their signature dish is chicken tenderloin breaded in Captain Crunch, Apple Jacks or Fruity Pebbles! They have your wings, pizza and burgers but they add their own spin. They have the biggest selection of French fries I’ve seen at a bar and the dipping sauces that each one comes with tickles the taste buds just like the beers. The atmosphere is the most laid back I’ve seen. The macabre of people that congregate to drink and socialize was hard to believe. During the week every one mingles and the weekends don’t fit the typical stereotype of an import bar. They have crowds and live entertainment on the weekend and not just the local talent, the band list is as diverse as the beer menu. Overall one of the best, least known places, I’ve ever been…good luck to the Tulunes at the Saloon. “

“Wow - talk about a diamond in the rough. I would never have expected a place like this in Johnstown. There’s a sign above the door warning people that they "don’t serve Budeweiser, Miller, Coors, or any similar beers" Lowest you’ll get is Iron City products and some Labatts. Right now, there are 11 taps, but after they get the kitchen going in a week or so, they’re going to expand to 20, then 30 taps. Biggest selection of Belgian beers I’ve seen between Sharp Edge and Monk’s. Today, there was Bornem XX and a very nicely aged Liefman’s Kriek, Wittekerke, and several others. Spaten Optimator and Oktoberfest. Bottle list was impressive, Het Kappitel to Chimay to Sam Smiths to Liefmans to Flying Dog. Soon they’ll be getting in the DFH, Lancaster, Troegs, etc. and hope to have their own wholesale business.
You can make your own six packs to go, too. Todd, Mike and Pat were great to talk to, and have a genuine love of good beer. I look forward to going back here and getting my Belgian beer fix - and to try their food once they open the kitchen. Todd said they’re even going to try to bring in some good cheese to pair with the beer.
If you’re in Johnstown, this is not to be missed!“
