| 54 /100 7030 ROSCOE TURNER ROAD “A very rural brewery in the little town of Kiln, in the far south of MS. Fairly sizeable interior, but not many beers on tap: 7-8 when I visited. They do flights, which are basically half pours served in mason jars. My flight of 4 cost about $15 after tax. Beer quality was not great, with mostly subpar beers but one decent one I had. But what do you expect around here? Pleasant, friendly service. Worth a stop if you’re driving through this general area.“ |
| 86 /100 7030 ROSCOE TURNER ROAD “This is a nice little detour if you’re driving along I-10. It was nice to break up the trip from New Orleans to Ocean Springs. Thanks to a very recently implemented MS law, Lazy Magnolia now has a proper tasting room. It hasn’t been in existence very long, so I’m not sure if they plan on expanding it or decorating it further. It’s fairly sparse at the moment. The beer selection was really extensive. There was easily more than a dozen beers on spanning several styles. I feel like Lazy Magnolia has steadily improved over its long career. Beers are available to go as well in bottles and growlers. They do tours regularly, if you’re into that kind of thing.“ |

It’s not too far a haul from New Orleans, and at the time was the only brewery in Mississippi, so I took an excursion. At the time it was a fairly sparse warehouse arrangement, and if I recall, Mississippi laws at the time really didn’t permit them to do much more than let you visit. I don’t even think we could buy retail. I’m hoping that’s changed. I like their beers.“ |

This is an easy stop if you’re passing through the area on I-10, though actually finding the building really isn’t easy. The address is on Roscoe-Turner Rd but the building is set back behind some other warehouses. Go to the west end of Roscoe-Turner and head south on Fred and Al Key Rd and about 50 yards up take a left where you’ll see a vinyl banner hanging and a dirt parking lot. Park in there and walk around the back through the pallets. Be warned that you can’t just go in and drink the beer and leave; you have to take the tour, which takes about an hour. The tour is fun though as the lady that does the tours is pretty funny and will give you some extra pours if you ask nicely (assuming you want more). They will also give you some of the experimental stuff, for instance (as Travlr mentioned below) a new sour. Not sure that this sour can even be rated since they said they won’t release it but then again you can try it by paying $10 to be on the tour, so I don’t know. It’s a sour version of some pecan beer that has been soured in a bourbon barrel. Not awful but not all that good either. The rest of the samples are various seasonals and year round beers. At the end of the tour you can take a pint glass home (they have three types to pick from) or you can pay the extra dollar and take a snifter home instead. They also have a small gift shop with shirts, stickers, glasses, etc, where I bought a bottle of mead that isn’t yet in the database here. The facility is jam packed with equipment at the moment and the whole back area (outside, getting rained on) is full of stuff (kegs and pallets). They’re in the middle of expanding and they’re at capacity. The brewers clearly have an idea of what they’re doing since the beer is alright but I’m not sure of the tour guides and if you’re a hardcore beer geek you may not be overly entertained with the tour.“ |
| 78 /100 7030 ROSCOE TURNER ROAD “I didn’t have high expectations of this place, but I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a large warehouse/production brewery, but is set to more than double its size with a new facility being built next door which is almost finished. Tons of parking. The tour is a bit pricey at ten bucks, but that gets you eight beers, including three from barrels, one of which is a new sour. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, but they’re not brewers. Thorough and enjoyable.“ |

You get to take home a souvenir pint glass at the end of the tour. This is worth the couple minute detour off I-10 for a couple beers.“ |
| 74 /100 7030 ROSCOE TURNER ROAD “This is the only brewery in Mississippi (so far). It is not a taproom, but they do have brewery tours with tastings. The tours cost $10 and last about an hour and are your basic tour through the facility with an explanation of how their beer is made. Along the way you get to sample 6 of their beers and at the end you get to take home a pint glass of your choosing. The employees are super friendly and I had a great time. Although it would be nice if they could serve more of their beer on the premises, for now it is what it is. As Mississippi’s only brewery, this place is working hard to get locals interested in craft beer and change the culture in the state, so it is a great cause to support. And their beer is quite tasty!“ |
