“Close to the Town Hall, it's a minutes walk away just off the same road in its own building. The action takes place in a cosy upstairs room with the bar in one corner and a fridge of beers against a wall, although surely you'd want to sample their own brews if coming here, especially as they have found a niche style for themselves.“

“On both a commercial and industrial estate combined with plenty of parking, if you're heading here from the city centre then it's in the dip on the other side of park high on the hill. The brewery has created a large space for dinners and drinkers in front of its bar along the far right side of the open plan room. Theres more than double the seating outside too. Cask and keg available, regulars and specials.“

“Traditional drinking hole, laid back atmosphere. Cask selection not the best but my half of Titanic Plum Porter went down smoothly. Needs to up its ale range in terms of selection, but an agreeable old school tavern nonetheless.“

“Delightful pub hotel, easy ambience, full range of Lancaster ales on plus a couple of guests. Excellent service and the ale was tip top, what's not to like. Recommended if you find yourself in Lancaster.“

“Another good pub by the water, a more than decent cask selection with Hawkshead ales featuring quite heavily. If you like drinking by the canal, then seemingly Lancaster is the place to be.“

“Large, modern airy building, very pleasant setting by the canal. Five cask ales on, my Ruby ale was decent enough but the selection seemed a bit on the safe side. Pleasant enough for what it is, might try the food if I ever venture in again.“

“City centre venue just in the northern area beyond the pedestrian only zones. Compared to some of the compact venues in Lancaster this place is relatively spacial, although it might not appear to be from the exterior. More importantly it has an excellent mix of cask and keg with plenty of options. Fairly modern design in an older building. I came here twice on my pub tour during my day out in Lancaster.“

“Small traditional pub mostly with modern touches now throughout, and a couple of defined area, also showing TV sports. There's nothing beyond the ordinary here, it's a nice place and atmosphere, but is not part of the craft beer revolution at the time of writing. A few regular cask ales are available m“

“Corner shop on the main road south out of the city, which I walked to in about 15 minutes from the centre. The front room has very attractively laid out wines and spirits - the beer is in a less appealing back room, however the selection with a good focus on local and regional has plenty of options, some in fridges, with European beers available too.“

“Below the Castle grounds on the road that brings you to the quayside, although it is set back from the road in leafy grounds just before the river comes into view. Modern open plan design but sympathetically traditional to this historic stone-brick building, I think it has just had an update and is a Robinson's concern now. As such there's a couple of cask from this brewer and over half a dozen guests across cask and keg. Picnic tables out front but no parking.“

“In a courtyard through a cream painted alleyway off the southern road section of the main shopping street. Mainly a produce store it has a few bottles available with the organic Little Valley Brewery well represented here to mirror its mission. Sam Smith brews too.“

“Central middle terrace public house on the one way system heading north through the city quite close to the new build hotel, which was a Travelodge the first time I went across the road from it into the pub, but is now an Ibis. A dimly lit traditional styled urban boozer with real ales available, it might now be morphing into something a little more modern as there's currently an under refurbishment sign in the window.“

“A traditional northern pub. Offers a good range of beers with a solid selection of guest ales. Stopped over only quickly but remembering having had a good time here with a typical northerness to it.“

“Big restaurant with a good range of cask ales. We went here for dinner after our visit to Accidental Brewery expecting the usual pub food, but this is completely different and gourmet style. We had the salmon and the bangers and mash and both were great. On the cask we managed to find two new ones from local breweries, and as we were leaving we spotted their small fridge and in there we found another six, which we took to go. Go here both for the food and the beer range.“

“Small brewpub located in an attic. The brewing equipment is so small that it fits behind the bar. We visited on a later Sunday afternoon, and it was quiet. They only had one of their own beers on, but that was good, and so were the other ones we got. In addition to their own beers they feature UK craft beers. There are 10 kegs, two casks and a fridge. Good service. When we started talking more to owner it turned out he had another two of his own beers on can. He cans keg beers, and although the kegs were empty, he was able find two cans for us.“

“Nice place right in the center of Lancaster. Top quality craft beers nd has a very unique place in the attic of a regular central building. Good atmosphere and nice lounge music to accompany the beers. I love this place. Only wished that more than one of their own beers were available.“

“This is a brewery tap at the brewery itself. In addition to their core range they had three other of their own beers on cask plus a bottle. They were showing Six Nations on multiple screens. A place to get a few local ticks.“

“A relatively new addition (autumn 2017) to the lively pub scene in Lancaster. Street corner location in an old stone building in the central part of town. Five cask ales, 20 modern craft beers on tap and craft beer cans and bottles in the fridge. All their draught beers are available in thirds. Many of both the cask and keg beers were from regional located breweries. A cool and modern place with a retro touch to the upper level of the pub. Friendly service. Mostly young adults in the pub at our stay. (Visited with Finn, last stop on our very successful pub crawl in Lancaster, 06.02.2019).“

“Another nice canalside place in a brick building located close to the old bridge leading into the city center. A long servery with nine, mostly regionally sourced, cask ales supported by a interesting range of craft beers, Classic Brit pop and rock playing in the back at our stay; Manfred Mann, Beatles, Rolling Stones, among others, No wonder we had a good time here. Polite service. (Visited with Finn, 06.02.2019).“

“A large, modern place in a brick building, former warehouse, nicely situated by the canalside. The outdoor seating along the canal should be great during warm summer days. Good range of cask, 14-15, most of them rotating. Seemed to be popular for food, and I was quire pleased with my Lamb Chop dish. Friendly service. (Visited with Finn during a pub crawl in Lancaster 06.02.2019).“

“A well-kept, old fashioned pub with different sections. Old photos and witch-related posters on the walls. Comfortable chesterfields chairs for enjoyable beer drinking. Seven cask ales to choose from. Friendly service, Music from Who and Cream in the back. Just pleasant and a cozy place to drink. (Visited with Finn 06.02.2019).“

“There is no brewing at the pub anymore. However, the pub is now the main outlet for the Horner Bros Brewery, which has strong relations to the former Borough Brewery. At our stay there were six Horner beers on cask and keg. Good range of guest ales as well. Yet, another cozy medium-sized pub in Lancaster, open and airy with chesterfield chairs, wooden tables and walls in warming pale green paint. Friendly and attentive service. (Visited with Finn on a pub crawl in Lancaster 06.02.2019).“

“After visiting the city museum in Lancaster we popped into this central located, street corner pub. Six hand-pumps, not all of them operating at our stay. Craft beers on bottles, cans and kegs from breweries like Evil Twin, Castle Rock, Hawkshead and Siren, among others. It's a rather modern, well-kept, medium-sized pub in an old brick building. Friendly and informative service. They do thirds of their draught beers. (Visited with Finn 06.02.2019).“

“A charming freehouse close to the Lancaster Castle. Eight cask ales, served in thirds. Well selected range of craft beers on kegs and in bottles/cans. Seating area around the bar to the right, joined by two rather large arch-like cellar rooms in brick and carpeted floors promoting a very nice and cozy ambiance. Some seating outside in front of the entrance. Attentive and friendly service. Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, and classic blues music in the back. (Visited with Finn 06.02.2019).“

“Welcome atmosphere and service at this place, situated just a few minutes down from the castle. Has got many qualities, all of the beers we had were well kept, and the four sided pub room was stylish, cozy, clean, and inviting. Ten cask ales, quite a few from the Lancaster Brewery. The cask ales are supported by a decent range of kegs and bottles. Adjoining restaurant room with a must-see old well. Even the music from Shadows, Zombies and some crooners made our stay almost perfect. (Visited with Finn 06.02.2019).“

“We began our one day pub crawl in Lancaster with a good valued, traditional breakfast at this spoons. A medium sized main room that opens up to another room on a lower level behind the L-shaped bar. Two cask lines with five hand pumps in each, a few regional beers among them. Smiling service and decent morning atmosphere. Located downtown, about ten minutes from the train station. (Visited with Finn 06.02.2019).“

“Visited on 1st Feb 2019. Situated just outside the town centre and on the road behind the Borough sits this place. It's a Nano brewery with a Micropub. Bar is upstairs in a lovely old building, walking in hit by the noise of a thriving venue. Decor is smart, 12 beers on, 10 keg and 2 cask. Beer menu on website. Prices good, 2 of own beers on. 1 straight out of fermenter. Quality excellent. Super friendly welcome from people clearly passionate about beer. Fantastic place and a must visit.“

“Thought this was a grand place for real ale. Not far from the railway station you pass through outside seating area to enter cellar like bar area with a couple of other cellar rooms going off from the bar. What a beer selection today though of varying styles and strenghs across all 10 handpulls. Beers from Settle, Avid brewing Co, Beer Brothers, Kirby Lonsdale, Blackedge, Coach House, Harbour, Allendale, Rudgate and Tirril.“

“A nice hotel bar with a dark feel to the place and two rooms with plenty of seating and a few non-invasive TVs. Service was solid. A good number of local casks plus some macro taps available. Their English Breakfast is spot on. Prices are inline with the area. A nice surprise.“

“A bit more of a modern pub feel to this spot that was a bit dark and had limited seating. Service was find but not particularly beer oriented. A couple taps were out and they had a decent amount of more national and macro beers so the selection underwhelmed. Prices were inline with the area. I was disappointed considering it is the highest rated place in Lancaster.“

“An upscale bar along the riverwalk that also had a coffee shop in it so had a bit of a coffee shop vibe with large chairs and couches. Service was solid if not particularly beer oriented. “The Water Witch is a large canalside pub to the south of town. You can stay outside on a summer day, or in the more chilly autumn you might enjoy sitting next to the wood fire. The beer range is quite good, tending toward York but also featuring other Northern brewers. Some bottles from Mikkeller, Timmermanns and some more York. Worth checking out.“

“Nice enough pub close to the train station and the castle. They have a 'world of beer' menu but don't get too excited: many are macros from all over the world although there are a couple of world-class standards such as Rochefort 6. They aren't cheap but neither are they particularly dear. There's not much going on in the cask and keg department, but again there will be enough to keep you interested and you may get a tick or two. A worthwhile if not mandatory stop.“

“Visited on 22nd April 2017. Large stone built canalside bar, it has plenty of room for dining plus pies and other snacks are on sale from the bar. The beer range was from York brewery, quality was excellent, prices decent and service good. The place was heaving but probably the nicest venue in town.“

“Visited on 23rd April 2017. A two level Spoons next to the Travelodge in the town centre. You can enter from either side. We stopped by on a Sunday morning and place was heaving with Sunday brunchers, decor is decent enough but needed some staff to clear up. Beer range was solid enough with the usual craft range plus some interesting local cask beers. Not a must visit but if you want a cheap pint then this is the venue!“

“Visited on 22nd April 2017. Large single room with a few nooks and crannies, decor is a little minimalistic but has a modern feel to it. It was a little bit of a mess when we arrived but got settled in. Decent array of cask and keg beers from regional brewers plus a few more interesting offerings, Prices and service were decent enough. Probably the place you’ll pick up the most interesting beer in town but not the nicest pub.“

“Visited on 21st April 2017. Lovely old stone building set in a quiet square. The decor of the venue is impressive with lots of nice trad touches. It’s got a lot of rooms and was popular with students. 8 cask beers on of which 4 were their own. Quality good. Prices great with a quid off with a CAMRA card! Service was fairly poor though and slow. Definitely one to try for the Borough beers.“
