62 /100 Taps (Restaurant) 11 N. MAIN ST. On way to AZ this winter we stopped for a night in Lexington VA. Most resturants closed on Mondays. Stopped in here for a couple take out dinners. Had a decent Hazy IPA while waiting. Fancy hotel. Only about 7 beers on tap |
82 /100 128 SOUTH MAIN STREET Heliotrope is a really nice, modern, cool brewpub right in downtown Lexington. The main room gets busy but is still comfortable. There's a side alley with tables under a tent and a back tent with a few more tables. The bar is in the back, and they seem to have 6-8 house beers plus a few other options like ciders, seltzers, and wines. The beer is good and served in nice, proper glassware. Half or full pours are available, as are flights. The service is good - all ordering is done at the bar. The food is excellent, tasty sourdough crust pizzas, very good apps and salads. In terms of breweries, this is pretty much the only game in town but fortunately it's a really good one. |
90 /100 50 NORTH WIND LN Big place. Spacious! Big windows and hanging lights for lighting! Big parking lot. Two nice bartenders. Good cold beer. Couple of patios. Big bar, twenty long tables Sell souvenirs. Just a nice place. |
50 /100 Kroger - Lexington (Grocery Store) 422 E NELSON DR An older Kroger. You'll find nothing rare but you will find local seasonals. BYO section, but most beers are double faced and lacking on local stuff. I ended up getting four Red Hook beers instead of the local stuff I was looking for (+ 1 Stone, 1 Sam Adams). Prices are good. No customer service in the alcohol section. Plenty of parking. |
82 /100 50 NORTH WIND LN I was surprised at how high-end everything looked, not knowing that AB was behind it. Now it all makes sense. The tasting room vibe is copied out of the playbook of other smaller and less-funded breweries. Fortunately the beer is really tasty and worth a visit. Prices were decent and there was a solid selection of beer and gear, but no food beyond some potato chips. |
72 /100 Brew Ridge Taps (Bar) 11 E NELSON ST So, we went here after a dissapointing trip to Blue Lab around the corner which made this place seem like heaven in comparison. I actually enjoyed the waffle sandwich I got (with pimento cheese). They had a solid list of tap and bottle beers. I am becoming increasingly annoyed with the tendency of bottle places, this one included, who have unfresh selections on the shelves. Service was good. |
74 /100 50 NORTH WIND LN Stopped into the outpost on my way up the Blue Ridge. There is clearly money here; AB-InBev money to be exact. Brewery is up on a hill; parking lot behind. Kind of seems fairly rural but there are a number of folks here on a Friday afternoon. Tasting room is not really that large; a few tables and a long bar. There is a patio out back though that I did not check out cause it was hot. They had about 8 taps running when I was there; flights of four available. I picked four new ones and went to town. Beer quality is really pretty solid, I guess the money is helping. Service was friendly and did not seem corporate. Solid visit. |
60 /100 Brew Ridge Taps (Bar) 11 E NELSON ST Not a bad place to have a beer in the afternoon. About 20 beers on tap, most of which are from Virginia and the bordering states. I didn’t get a chance to look at the food menu. There is also a decent amount of packaged beer, and they do have an off-premise license. If you find yourself in Downtown Lexington it may be worth a stop. |
70 /100 50 NORTH WIND LN Large production brewery with taproom of about 8 beers. Mostly lagers. High quality beers though. My GPS couldn’t pick up the street as I think the brewery is the only place on it, but it’s visible from the main road. |
48 /100 Brew Ridge Taps (Bar) 11 E NELSON ST A pleasant surprise find on the fringe of downtown Lexington during an overnight stay, a good alternative for a beer lover visiting town. They have 18 taps, all solid, if unspectacular, including a few Virginia hard-to-find-for-out-of-staters. There’s also a large selection of bottles, but I didn’t really explore. The food menu however is limited, and unfortunately focused on "WaffleWiches" -- mushy waffles wrapped around sandwich makings. Not a fan. Should’ve had a salad. |
68 /100 50 NORTH WIND LN This is the main expanded brewey for DB, so it’s a modern affair with a very large tasting room and swag shop up front. It doesn’t have quite the atmosphere of the original place, but you can look through the glass behind the bar to watch the brewers work, and the place was bathed in a nice boiling malt aroma when I stopped by. Eight beers on tap, but I had had all but one. They sell bottles and cans to go, but sadly not singles; growlers too. Worth a quick stop if you’re passing by. |
70 /100 50 NORTH WIND LN Visited here last April outside of normal operating hours. This is the main production facility for DB. The tap room’s a pretty standard affair. There’s a little nook with merch available and a long bar that serves 6-8 of DB’s offerings. DB makes some of the best beer in the state, and it’s a treat to try their product right at the source. With that said, the brewpub has a larger tap list, so I’d really only recommend a visit here if you’re interested in a tour of the facility or passing through the area on 85. Overall, worth a look, but with this place being nearly an hour from C’ville, I won’t be stopping by too often. |
92 /100 50 NORTH WIND LN This is a state of the art brewery making fantastic award winning beer. I was lucky enough to talk my way in when they were still building the system and got to talk to the engineer overseeing the install by the German company he worked for...very impressive system. I have been back several times since they opened to the public. Their beers are really great (love the 8 Point IPA and the Vienna Lager that won a medal at the GABF). When my Chinese craftbeer friend came to the US recenlty to tour great craftbeer places...this one was high on his list based on what he’d read about it in advance of his trip. Definitely worth a sidetrip if not on your way. Allow time to try the many styles. |
82 /100 Washington Street Purveyors (Beer Store) 9 E WASHINGTON ST Great little beer and wine shop in downtown Lexington. I’ve been coming here for many years as I’m now putting my second kid through VMI. Hard to pass thru without looking to see if I can find some beers I can’t get back in NJ. |
70 /100 50 NORTH WIND LN I could have sworn I rated this place. Anyway, I went during opening day. Gravel parking lot in an industrial park featuring a large modern building. This is home to a top of the line brewing system making all of the bottled products for the brewery. It’s a large operation. They have a tasting room which they built anticipating a law change that went into effect today, actually, allowing them to serve full pints. The beer is generally very good. Some swag is available as well as beer to go. It’s a bit out of the way, but its a good stop. |
38 /100 Kroger - Lexington (Grocery Store) 422 E NELSON DR Typical college town bmc emporium that has voluminous numbers of kegs, unusual for a kroger. They’re only on the list because of their massive stock of all three varieties of Chimay(though for some reason it’s displayed on it’s side), several bottles of Weihenstephaner Hefe, and a great price on large bottles of various New Belgium beers. The service was fantastic. I checked out my own beer. I made my own sixer even though the store doesn’t technically offer the service. |
42 /100 Kroger - Lexington (Grocery Store) 422 E NELSON DR Imagine my shock when I visit the kroger across from the hampton Inn and it has New Belgium large bottles on sale for 2.99! They also have some Chimay red, blue, and white. Other than the awesome New Belgium deal they have some typical starr hill that you find everywhere in VA. |
80 /100 Washington Street Purveyors (Beer Store) 9 E WASHINGTON ST cute shop in a nice little town. The owner and staff are really into all the wine and beer and will try and get anything you ask for and have most of what you want! |
68 /100 Washington Street Purveyors (Beer Store) 9 E WASHINGTON ST Located in charming downtown Lexington. On a Friday, mid-day, I found on street parking with relative ease, but the place didn’t have dedicated parking that I could see. Cool little place with stone walls and cramped rooms. I love that vibe. Good, broad selection of beers. Definitely American focused though there was a smattering of foreign beers as well. Nothing rare, nothing too offbeat. Prices were very high compared to what I’ve seen elsewhere. Shopkeeper was nice. A few gourmet foodstuffs around. Not worth going out of your way for, but if you’re in Lexington they’ll suit your needs ably. |
74 /100 Washington Street Purveyors (Beer Store) 9 E WASHINGTON ST Stopped by two times on a trip to Lexington from California in March 2009. Really nice friendly staff and great selection of top class brews. Prices are fair (top 100 brews for about 2 to 4 dollars a bottle). Nice place. |
