| 76 /100 KIRKSTILE INN, “A Lake District pub with a perfect setting and an traditional and atmospheric inn to be enjoyed. This place is popular for food and quite rightly so. The car park is large but can get full on summer evenings when the weather is good, the beer garden on two levels also makes for a peaceful and beautiful place to sup your ale or sort our your hunger. If you bring a dog in the evening you’ll certainly end up in the garden as they are only allowed in during the afternoon. Inside is a cosy place, with some small areas to sit in, other places have larger tables for larger groups, it’s hard though not relax in these surroundings as the low beam roof makes it intimate. The bar is small but they still pack a good selection of local real ales.“ |
| 82 /100 KIRKSTILE INN, “A lovely country pub in a stunning setting.
The Kirkstile Inn - originally the brewpub for Loweswater brewery until they took over Cumbrian Legendary Ales and moved production to the Old Hall Brewery in Esthwaite, near Hawkshead - is in a sheltered spot in a lovely valley between Loweswater and Crummock Water. Although this western part of the Lake District is quite green, it’s an isolated place with the only neighbours being a church and perhaps one house. The Inn has a patio outside and inside there are cosy nooks and crannies, a low beamed ceiling and a welcoming open fire in a small slate fireplace.
There are six taps offering four or five Cumbrian Legendary Ales and one guest beer (Yates bitter when we were there). Croglin Vampire was available in bottles and they do take-aways, for example 5l of Loweswater Gold for £20. Accommodation and food is also available.
