“Pretty small pub in the ’round the corner’ bit of the high street. Old building but bright and breezey interior. Really good atmosphere in here on our visit, a bunch of senior chaps were singing sea shanties and singing them well. The beer selection was disappointing to be frank, four very standard beers and one special - I really think a brewery taproom can do better than this, doubly so when you consider the high number of specials Mighty Oak release. The special was fresh and in good condition. Some ciders and a few wines here as well, so an easy place to bring the missus. Nice place with a weak beer selection.“

“Seriously small micropub - capacity about a dozen and that would be if everyone had not had breakfast. Consequently quite friendly - you don’t have much choice in here! Back wall is stacked with Farmers Ales bottles and I picked up 10 winners. 6 beers on tap, with the Coffee Stout being a new one for me. Service was from one lady who was friendly, helpful and new the beers very well. Great little place, look forward to returning in due course.“

“Very olde worlde pub. Not many concessions to modernism here, good! A few cask ales available. Really nothing that exciting. It’s just a nice pub to stop in for awhile and is conveniently located just by Farmers Ales brewery (Maldon) where you can stop in and buy a few bottles.“

“Old world charm eludes from this pub. It is small but has bags of character. I had the Adnams and the local Maldon Golden, both of which I couldn’t fault. They had several other ales available which I didn’t get time to try. Didn’t try the food as there is a great chippy around the corner. There is quite an interesting shop next to the pub which is actually part of the building, give it a look in. The shop owner takes his liquid lunch using his own door to the pub inside the shop, very amusing! Can’t fault the pub, highly recommended.“

“A cosy pub situated right on Hythe Quay in the lovely town of Maldon, offering fantastic views of the river and thames barges. A great selection of ales, local and seasonal included. I drank Tim Taylor Landlord and the local Mighty Oak Golden Gold, both of which were first class. I have heard the food is great but not tried it myself. The outside seating area is very big, I counted 32 benches outside that seat 8 a piece, you do the maths! A great relaxing pub with a good atmosphere and friendly staff.“

“A gem of a traditional old English pub located at the head of The High Street in Maldon. A welcoming two-room pub in an old building going back to the 15th century. The cosy Tap Room is decorated with hunt-related artefacts adorning the ceiling and walls. No hand pumps, but six ales dispensed on gravity including brews from Adnams, Crouch Vale and some from the local Farmer’s Ales, which in fact has got its brewery in the Stable Yard just outside the pub. So it is possible to buy bottled ales from the brewery for consumption in the pub. A nice drinking area can be found in the backyard of the pub. Decent food. Function room upstairs for entertainment. When visiting the pub, be sure to have a look at the Blue Boar Hotel with its amazing décor (visited a few times during a stay in Maldon, early May 08)“
