“Large single room ground floor space in a fairly modern building, probably purpose built for this king of venue. You'll find the usual mix of Head of Steam cask and craft keg here on the bar on the left hand wall and to the rear of the pub, and there's plenty of options. They also put chairs and tables out front for a terrace area.“

“Greene King pub with live sport and a convivial traditional urban setting in a ground floor room. It has three hand pumps which included a couple of beers from a local microbrewer and a Tim Taylor ale - so none of its own on my visit.“

“Visited this bottle shop back in 2012 as it's right next to a snooker club where I passed my referees course. Back then they did a good line in German bottled beers. I've not been in since but I guess it's got a lot more craft nowadays.“

“Possibly not as good as it was (going by the earlier reviews)? Cosy ambience, yes. Beer selection depleted though: only 9 keg taps on (including lagers, cider and Guinness) and no cask. A couple of interesting beers but all a bit underwhelming...“

Reserve Wines (Beer Store)

“In a middle shop unit about a minutes walk south of Burton Road Metrolink station, this is a small place which mainly sells wines, although there’s one fridge at the back dedicated to beers where you’ll find a few things of interest, but given Epicurean with its splendid selection is just up the road, it’s not surprising that they are not trying to compete on the beer front.“

Volta (Bar)

“Close to the Withington Community Hospital, and almost opposite Epicurean bottle shop, this is a cafe-bar with very warm wooden fixtures and fittings. It’s quite small when the bar is squeezed into this conversion of a shop unit as well, but there’s a decent sized patio out front with a huge plastic veranda covering, so only temperature rather than precipitation will ever be an issue here. As the larger cafe-bar next door also has a huge plastic veranda covering too it all blends in well along the main road. Keg options are available here, with ’regular’ ale offerings from Buxton and Camden Town available on my visit.“

“Occupying the end unit of a row of small business shops with a Victorian Style veranda covering the pavement, it’s directly across the main road from the West Didsbury Metrolink station. You wouldn’t look out of place drinking coffee in here as it’s very much a cafe-bar with small tables and chairs, however with over a dozen hand pumps all in a row on the bar against the inside wall you’ll probably find something of interest here. 8 were on when I visited and there’s plenty of local microbreweries represented on the wickets.“

“Small corner unit in the middle of a couple of rows of local shops close to the Withington Community Hospital. There’s two rooms made into an open plan space all neatly laid out into various sections for country or style, with various craft brewers from the UK all in the back area with some local producers represented too. Most breweries represented have at least half a dozen options available here. Traditional ales aren’t found here.“

“Very god shop and feel lucky to live around the corner (even though my wallet sometimes disagrees). Especially their selection of local brews is very good. It also seems to be a bit cheaper than Beermoth.“

Saison (Bar)

“Ace beer selection - 20 keg and 4 cask lines stocked with largely excellent beer (minus a few for lager, Guinness and the like) and plenty of bottles, including some more unusual stuff. Spotted Mikkeler, Smutty Nose, some rarer Founders stuff (Dark Penance, anyone?) as well as some of the best UK breweries. A bit different to the normal industrial-minimalist design of modern tap houses, it’s lovely and cosy inside and the food looks great too. Friendly service and knowledgeable staff.“

“Really fabulous place. Small and slightly inconspicous, but easily the best and biggest beer selection in Didsbury and one of the best in South Manchester. Food was good too, if that floats your boat. The service was friendly. Can’t really fault it in all honesty. Surprised it wasn’t busier.“

“Smart but pleasant one room bar situated opposite West Didsbury Metrolink station. Good selection of cask and keg, majoring on Manchester and NW micros.“

“Newish bar opposite West Didsbury met station run by the people from Folk. The focus here might be on wine, but beer is certainly not forgotten. Thirteen handpumps line the bar, all from North West micros. A further six keg lines are tucked away, half of which were local micros. (Tip: look at the pump clips lined up on the wall behind the bar for the keg selection.) They have started brewing their own house beers in collaboration with Brightside. Plates of charcuterie and cheeseboards are available. Decor is absolutely immaculate; I felt like I was bringing the place down with my scruffy attire. A really good place to bring non-beery people or just to spend a lazy afternoon by yourself with a book and a pint.“

“This shop is probably one of the biggest hidden gems as far as Manchester is concerned. Everyone knows about Beermoth these days but venture a little further out to the Epicurean and you won’t regret it. On the whole, I’d say the selection is 80 or 90% as good as what you’ll find in Beermoth, with the UK selection in particular probably stronger at the Epicurean. I have also found a few beers here that I’ve had trouble tracking down anywhere else. Service from the guys working there has always been incredibly friendly. Burton Road tram stop is about a minute’s walk away.“

“Close to the Wetherspoons and seemingly no less busy than its chain neighbour, this pub has an air of ’chain’ style about it with a very durable decor in a traditional pub style. It’s of a considerable size too with two large areas to drink in at the front and rear connected by a lengthy bar that runs the length of the corridor that connects the two areas. The rear area with a conservatory feel to it also has a large beer garden beyond this. The two rooms at the front of the pub have a little more to them in terms of a classic historical features of a public house. Hydes ales are mainly on offer here with beers from their craft brewery arm available.“

Carringtons (Beer Store)

“There are two branches, a large branch in Chorlton and a smaller branch in Didsbury. Selection is similar in both with a lot of foreign beers compared to similar nearby shops but also plenty of uk ones, Service is very friendly and knowledgable. I always come out with new beers to try as well as some of my favourites!“

“Situated on the main road south out of Manchester (by a footbridge over the main road), this is a local Wetherspoon with a very welcoming feel to it. The bar is central in a building that has several room areas for choice of seats. Outside a patio area is partly covered but is a noisy affair given the fast moving traffic. The bar sports a good ale selection on two rows of pumps. Food is popular.“

“Part of a micro entertainment area of Didsbury this is one choice of several places to either drink or dine. Of course the menu is obvious and doesn’t deviate from the chain’s norm, but the real ales on two pump rows do rotate. Inside it is a small affair over two floors but cosy with soft furnishings that please the eye.“

“Decent ramshackle beer/wine retailer on the outskirts of Didsbury ’village’ centre. Higgledy-piggledy arrangement of wares. Wide range of beers but not always of the highest calibre and quite pricey. Some good value to be had with the wines.“

“Gem of a pub in the hectic Didsbury ’village’. Like everywhere here it’s mobbed on Friday/Saturday so probably best avoided unless you’re in a large crowd. Usually an interesting couple of guests on. Several HD TV screens showing whatever sport is on. I’ve spent many a pleasant Saturday afternoon with a window seat watching the world go by.“
