58 /100 Balducci’s (Grocery Store) 6655 OLD DOMINION DRIVE I like Balducci's, but not for beer shopping.
There's actually a decent amount of beers and ciders, lots of imports and ciders compared to other grocery stores.
Worth a peek if you're there already. |
78 /100 Barrel & Bushel (Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner) (Restaurant) 7901 TYSONS ONE PLACE Very close to Tysons Corner, just outside Lord and Taylor. Big open long bar with several big screens and some tables for meals. Pricing was reasonable to just above average. Service was prompt and friendly. Great place to get a quick beer while your wife shops. I have been at least three times and have found something nice to have. |
58 /100 Balducci’s (Grocery Store) 6655 OLD DOMINION DRIVE I have come here many times over the years, but have rarely bought beer, because the selection is pretty unremarkable and overpriced (no surprise there, since this is Balducci's). Most of their selection is in six packs. The only singles are a few Belgian beers and larger bottles. It is not a horrible selection, but not a place you will likely find some rarity. One very positive note is all their beer is kept in a cooler. |
52 /100 Harris Teeter (Grocery Store) 8200 CRESTWOOD HEIGHTS DRIVE Grocery store with a make your own 6 pack, lots of locals, a few bombers, lots of mixed 12 packs. |
76 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Wow, this is a pretty large one, maybe the biggest feeling selection I've seen a long time. The Chantilly one gets close, as did the original Springfield location from about a decade ago. Really clean and new looking - not sure if it just got remodeled or if it's just really has good upkeep. |
86 /100 Barrel & Bushel (Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner) (Restaurant) 7901 TYSONS ONE PLACE Cool flights |
86 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Wow. Very impressive selection of beer, especially the local stuff. Lots and lots of singles. Low prices. I will have to come back soon! |
78 /100 Barrel & Bushel (Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner) (Restaurant) 7901 TYSONS ONE PLACE Nice restaurant/bar connected to the Hyatt Regency at Tysons Corner, out in the new plaza with the ice rink. Closest area to park would be around Lord & Taylor or on the AMC side. If you’re taking Metro here on the silver line, it’s conveniently located a short walk from the Tysons Corner Metro Station without even having to step inside the mall. Nice atmosphere for a hotel/mall restaurant. Friendly service at the bar.
Solid selection of craft beer drafts with all 25 from VA/MD breweries. A few pre-selected flights of 4 available, plus a make your own for a pricey $14. Solid bottle list with more regional U.S. offerings. Food was a bit pricey but very tasty. Had the hot fried chicken with bourbon french toast which was very filling. Prices were a bit high on beer and food but to be expected for the location I guess. For the local DC area raters, you’ll probably have already had most of the beers here. Worth a look if you’re in the area or at the mall. Nice pre or post AMC theater stop. Came back for a second visit on 2/14/2016 to wait out some parking garage traffic congestion after seeing a movie. Not much to add but apparently you can bring your beer up to your hotel room if you happen to have the dough to stay here, probably a tip more for out of town raters. Had the pub burger this time which was messy but delicious, nicely seasoned thin fries. |
94 /100 Barrel & Bushel (Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner) (Restaurant) 7901 TYSONS ONE PLACE ambiance: a hotel restaurant and bar, but it has a great atmosphere. Lots of wood. Nice bar area. Glass fronted coolers displaying bottles and kegs. Really nice. Outside seating available too. Some seating is communal picnic table type, some is normal dining. service: came for happy hour, decided to stay for dinner, and then had breakfast the next morning. Our afternoon and dinner server was one of the absolute best waiters we’ve ever had (shout out to Andres!), and the breakfast waiter was decent. selection: Absolutely excellent draft list (about 30), focused solely on local brewers from Virginia, DC, and Maryland. Bottle list is fine (about 20), nicely mixed. Lots of rotating and seasonal taps. food: Absolutely excellent. Over the course of happy hour, dinner, and breakfast, we consumed a few appetizers, a couple entrees, side dishes, and breakfast food. Everything was superb, an d a few things, such as the 72-hour pork belly, were superlative. value: for a higher-end hotel restaurant bar in the DC area, this place was surprisingly reasonable. overall: My new favorite dining/drinking establishment in Northern Virginia. |
86 /100 Barrel & Bushel (Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner) (Restaurant) 7901 TYSONS ONE PLACE Very sleek and chic, with exposed tap lines and beer barrels in display. Nice draft list featuring local beers -- all available in flights. We had chorizo sliders which were outstanding. Service was speedy but our server was not all that knowledgable about the beers on tap. Worth a visit. |
76 /100 Lost Dog Cafe - McLean (Restaurant) 1690A ANDERSON RD This was my dinner stop the night I arrived at IAD. Place is in a strip bar, but maintains a nice ambiance nonetheless. Some outside tables in front, long bar and a separate table seating area. Several coolers filled with bottles in the front, available for onside consumption or to go (latter at a discount). Nothing too crazy as far as bottle selection goes. 16 taps, definintely a VA/MD/DC focus to them, but a few were devoted to other places. They had flights of four available, so of course I did that. Service was quite good and friendly. I had a taco pizza, which was solid as well. Prices were kinda up there however. |
82 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD This is a huge liquior store with a great selection of singles. Friendly service and great prices. This is a place that is worth driving out of your way for. |
82 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD A stunning selection of beer, although not the broadest choice of beer styles. The European beers are rather standard, with some exceptions, and there’s a good choice of beers from the states in the area as well. And of course quite a few of the bigger micros. Was really hard to leave here without buying way too many beers. Didn’t feel the need for service, but was approached by several of the staff asking if we needed advise. Lots of other drinks in here too, not just beer. Really glad we drove to this place. |
70 /100 Lost Dog Cafe - McLean (Restaurant) 1690A ANDERSON RD Rated on the way back to DC from Dulles. Convenient strip mall location. Walls covered with local history lessons. Server was very friendly and knowledgeable. Food was just OK. Beer list was good, with an emphasis on regional stuff and more mainstream/popular craft. The highlight for me was the bottle shop (for take-away or in-house consumption) that included ATG, 3 Brothers and many others. |
80 /100 Lost Dog Cafe - McLean (Restaurant) 1690A ANDERSON RD Cool place I would have never known existed had Beerandblues2 not tipped me off. Tucked away in a quiet spot in the typically not-so-quiet Tyson’s Corner area. Plenty of seating inside and out and I really liked the large, painted wall murals that had dog-people acting out the history of the area. Didn’t have any food on my visit, but it definitely smelled and looked delicious. Beer selection was good with a solid focus on local Virginia breweries; especially the newer/smaller ones. Overall a place I really liked and one I’d visit again next time I’m in the area. |
88 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Ambiance: Typical Total Wine--big box place, wide clean aisles, well lit, good parking. Service: Never been here and had someone NOT ask if I needed help with anything. Everyone seems friendly. Selection: If you live in the MD/DC/VA area, you need to hit Total Wine on the regular, to get those items you can’t get in DC or MD. Great selection here, and well organized. Food: Party snacks available for sale. Value: Extraordinary for the MD/DC/VA area. They have a great selection of lower priced items. Regularly see 22 oz bombers for 3.99, and single 12 oz bottles of craft beer for 1.49 and sometimes .99; it’s the cheapest around. Overall: I occasionally have work meetings in the area, and I always allow myself an extra half hour to stop by and browse. One of my favorite bottle shops. |
80 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Big dedicated free parking right in front. Clean big box store. Huge selection of singles. Helpful employees. Reasonable prices. I bought quite a few bottles. I would go out of my way some for this place. |
76 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Seems larger compared to Sterling and Fairfax. Craft beer is mostly on endcaps up front and along the left aisles of the store. Singles and packs. Good prices as is the norm with the other VA stores. Staff is ok, some cashiers seem a bit awkward. Good stop if you miss out on beers at the smaller local shops. |
78 /100 Lost Dog Cafe - McLean (Restaurant) 1690A ANDERSON RD I have been here several times but forgotten to enter a rating until now. This is similar to their other locations, complete with a large bottle selection for on-site or off-site consumption, and a large tap list of craft/micro beers. The food is mostly sandwiches and pizza, all of which that I had tried are very good. Friendly staff. |
68 /100 Lost Dog Cafe - McLean (Restaurant) 1690A ANDERSON RD Smaller restaurant, decent number of bottles and taps, and solid pizza. Pretty nice spot for being in a strip mall. |
82 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD You know the drill by now of Total Wine, but this store has a pretty exceptional beer selection among Total Wines. Enormous amount of bottles, tons of singles, lots of bizarre country ticks, even some special release stuff was here like Stone Enjoy By IPA and Stone Espresso RIS. Also found at least two cases of Williamsburg Aleworks Cafe Royale. Very impressed. Staff was very friendly. Let me leave with about 10 six pack holders and three wine cases that I needed for moving. |
90 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Came here in December after eating at nearby Dogfish Head restaurant. Crazy selection of beer, from cases to singles. I probably spent half an hour looking around. Good price too. Closest drive to get me some Founders and Bell’s in Maryland. |
74 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Felt pretty much like a typical Total Wine. Lots of singles, oddly organized by style in such a way that would make it a bit difficult if you were looking for a particular beer. Otherwise, it’s a nice stop for singles. I didn’t see anything rare or crazy, but they had a nice selection. The singles section was quite crowded, and the employees added to the clutter by standing around clogging the already crowded isle. |
72 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Big box store with a huge selection, fair prices, and a large singles selection. |
40 /100 Balducci’s (Grocery Store) 6655 OLD DOMINION DRIVE If you’ve been to one gourmet grocery store than you’ve been to Balducci’s. Located in a shopping center in a prententious suburb of DC, Balducii’s treats beer as an afterthought. They only had 2 coolers of domestic and foreign BMC with the odd local microbrew and obvious Belgian thrown in. They do have le trois Chimay so they qualify for this database but just barely I don’t think it even works as a grocery store. All things being equal I’d rather shop at Wegman’s. |
80 /100 Lost Dog Cafe - McLean (Restaurant) 1690A ANDERSON RD Good selection of beers in tap, available in small taster glasses. Also good selection of bottled beer for serving or for carrying out. Great sandwich menu. |
82 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Large selection. Organized by style. Helpful staff. Big box ambiance. |
76 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Stopped in here for a couple bottles of wine but the beer selection was pretty nice as well. Large well lit store with tasting counters and food / cheese. Helpful staff too. |
86 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Good prices, good service, good selection. |
80 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Definitely the nicest Total Wine I’ve been to in terms of decor. The waxed wooden floors are a nice touch. The beer is located on the left side of the store and is real easy to find. They have all the singles and quantity you’d expect from Total Wine but they also seemed to have more rarities as well. Will, who seemed to be really passionate about beer and logistics, is the guy to talk to for anything beer related. |
82 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD One of the best total wines I have been to! It’s clean, well laid out and doesn’t feel like an office depot. The manager is very big into beer and is willing to deviate from corporate if it helps the customer out. What I mean is that they have bar code stickers on the cans so they can ring up under different codes instead of requiring the clerk to look them up in a book like every other total wine I have been to. The selection is solid with some rares, but they won’t be the first to get them like a wine shop or norms would. I think I’ll be driving out to this one for my future total wine trips. |
80 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD This place has something for everyone: a huge selection of singles, an equally large collection of sixes, and semi-rarities in bombers and 750s, plus a hefty dose of local and regional stuff. One stop shopping if you’re anywhere near the area. Proces are better than in DC by a long way, but that’s not hard to do. |
74 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD typical total wine. best singles selection for the McLean / Vienna area... but lacks some of the rarer beers that Whole Foods and Norm’s receive. the service was non existent and distributors were taking up the aisles without apologizing. Total Wine serves a purpose for beer - and that for me is singles - especially when traveling out of state to pick up some beer I can’t get at home. |
86 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD One of my favorite places in VA to take a trip to to get beer. Big warehouse style place, but they group six packs and singles by american and import in ABC order. Always have a good selection, prices are good. I usually will go to Total Wine and Norm’s in one trip. |
80 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Nice wine store with a great beer selection too. The aisles are a touch tight in order to fit all the products, but that is not too big of a distraction. The service staff is plentiful and sticks more to the wine aisles, but is helpful nonetheless. There were several wine tasting stations throughout. The prices are good, with a nice single beer selection. |
80 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Supermarket type store, but very inviting with aisles filled with beer and wine. Good, helpful service. Excellent selection of singles, six packs, and 12’s. Prices can be a little dear, but not that out of line with the competition. Great place. |
76 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Big place in a strip mall. Huge warehouse of alcohol and shopping carts! Can’t really speak for service, we went to the beer section and were pretty much alone the whole time. Huge selection of 6 packs, 22’s, singles, you name it. Prices were pretty good too. Great place for stocking up on bottles, what more can I say? |
78 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Huge warehouse style store with a gigantic selection of wine and a large selection of beer. The main beer aisle is handily organized by country of origin. Good mix of singles, sixes, and twelves. Lots of domestic craft beers including most of the usual mid Atlantic breweries and some of the more common micros from other regions. Not a great selection of Belgians, relatively speaking. It is probably the cheapest beer store I have found in the area, and my favorite for a stock up trip, but I havent been to the other Total Wine locations to compare. If only they put the same effort into their beer as they do their wine, this could really be a top notch store. |
70 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD A new gem for beer in Virginia - new for me, at least. It’s warehouse sized with a 100-foot aisle of just singles... and I looked around and found that pretty much every 6-pack or case they had was also available as a single, an unheard of luxury that shouldn’t be so unheard of! I was able to pick up a mixed six pack of things I hadn’t seen elsewhere, some IPAs from North Carolina and a couple of whoring beers from countries like Columbia and Bolivia. So yeah, from no on I’m hitting this spot in McLean whenever I head over to the beer stores in Vienna. |
50 /100 Total Wine & More - McLean, VA (Beer Store) 1451 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD Back in the day these places were called Total Beverage and they had a good to great selection of beer. Well no more. The name changed to Total Wine and so did the emphasis of the store. There are lots of beer but it is a rather uninteresting selection. The good news is that they sell tons of singles. The problem is that their quality is sometimes not so good. It is worth a stop if you are in the neighborhood but dont go out of your way for it. Of the ones in the DC area the location in Chantilly seems to have the most selection. |
