“Seems out in the middle of nowhere. Industrial park space. Absolutely dead on a Sunday morning. Brewhouse space is shared with taproom, industrial vibe. Food available. Great service. Almost all of the beers I tried were watery, and the emphasis was on whatever adjuncts they put in and not the base beer. Every beer is flavored, so impossible to tell if they can make a decent beer“

“Stopped here on the way back from the Richmond Zoo (note: it's not close to the zoo really) on MLK day 2023. Very nice new aged brewpub. They do not sell flights and will only sell 2x 4oz glass per person. The tap list is balanced between lagers and hop beers. Service was pretty good, and the food was good too.“

“My GPS took me to the opposite side of the road from where this place was located, but it was still easy enough to find - there's not a lot around, just small light industrial business parks. Plenty of parking outside one of those generic looking business buildings. Inside looks like a garage, a long wide hallway with bar tables, then continue around back to a serving bar and some more tables, including a few outside in the parking lot. No flights, just half pours for two bucks less than full pours. Beers were fine, lots of variations on the flagship stout. No food. OK if you're in the area.“

“Interesting place. I went directly to the empty bad - was early in the day so understandable. Several people came in after me. 8 beers on tap, none of them bad and most of them good+. Service was fine but not talkative. Food, on the other hand, I wasn’t a fan of. I figured smokehouse - gotta do it. Got the smoked turkey sandwich (it’s a cold turkey sandwich served on while bread) with two sides. Fries were wedges but it tasted like instead of salting them they sugared them. Mac & cheese was a greasy flavorless mess. Expected more out of a smokehouse. Will return for the beer, though!“

“Located in a very convenient location, just off of Rt. 250, and with plenty of parking. There were a few bartenders, all of which were very friendly and helpful. It’s a fairly large place. Though I didn’t explore it in it’s entirety I did venture into the backyard for a smoke, and it’s a very nice atmosphere. Also, they have about 80 or so beers on tap, and a fairly large variety of bottles/cans as well. I highly recommend checking this place out.“

“Big dedicated parking lot. This is a big restaurant/bar. Nice decor inside and we ate outside and the garden is nice also. The beer selection is very good lots of taps and good local selection of bottles. The service was a little slow, but our waiter was quite busy and I was in no rush. Our waiter was pretty knowledgeable about the beer. I had the cheeseburger on burger night and fries and enjoyed them. They had many options for the beer size and for take away, but a beer sampler flight option would have been nice. Nicer than the Innsbrook location with beer options I preferred.“

“Nice ambiance, good food and service. Rotating tap list and a very large bottle selection. The perfect recipe for a good time.“

“Extra Billy’s is a large BBQ joint with a corporate feel. The cavernous restaurant feels a bit impersonal, dark. There were no other customers when my party visited for a late lunch last Friday. So, the ambiance isn’t great, the service isn’t much to write home about either. Our waitress was a bit standoffish at first, but improved a bit after our initial contact. Luckily, the beer here is actually quite good. There were 5 Extra Billy’s beers available plus a further 5 guests. The brewmaster clearly likes his hops, but everything seemed to be nicely balanced, flavorful. The food’s decent too, though nothing to write home about. Prices were average. Overall, visit to try the delicious hoppy brews. Consider eating elsewhere.“

“This location is very similar to the other ones in the area. The rooms are very big with really long bars that have an ice zone embedded in the them and when they’re anywhere close to full they can Be very loud indeed. They have a ton of taps and bottles with a good representation of local stuff and some newest/latest and some rarities to add in the mix. The service tends to be solid though you occasionally encounter a bartender who realy knows their stuff. The prices are reasonable, the food is good, and its too bad one of these isn’t closer to where I live.“

“This place doesn’t look much like a restaurant or a brewery. Located adjacent to a Best Buy. Parking is ample. I didn’t eat but it certainly smelled nice. Ambience is fairly dark and cozy. 5 beers on draft plus Miller Lite. Both beers I sampled were average at best. My server was nice, but she and another employee were clueless about filling a growler or about beer in general. Clueless as in going out of their way to state as fact something that is clearly wrong. Prices are a little much for what you get (quality wise). Not really worth going out of your way for the beer, especially with Hops so close by.

Update... the bad news. Customer service here absolutely sucks. Completely inattentive to the point where you wonder if you’re the only one in the building. And they did something I HATE! I paid $10 for a sampler ($8.40, inc. tax). The server just assumed that I wanted to leave the remainder as a tip. No change was given to me, which in my mind is theft. She doesn’t know that if she hadn’t done this she would have gotten a larger tip. Now for the good news! They have a new brewer and the house beers are actually good now! Hooray! In addition, they’ve added some taps, drop the macro tap and now have a full selection of quality Virginia beers (Strangeways, Apocalypse, Devils Backbone, Hardywood, etc.). Old score was 3/4/5/NA/NA/7.“

“Great atmoshere! Lotsa beer. They say over 500 brands and I believe it. They must have at least 50 beers on tap. I can find it here if I can’t find it anywhere else. Folks are very knowledgeable and friendly. Even the wait staff can talk intelligently about beer. Monday $5 steak dinner, and Thursday half price growlers can’t be beat. A little out of my way, but worth every bit of the drive.“

“Went here expecting a lot because of the number of beers on tap. I was kinda disappointed though because basically all the beers on tap were things that I could have picked up at my local beer store. Maybe I went at a bad time.“

“Have only made the trek out here a few times for events but was pleased. It’s newer and nicer than the other locations and I haven’t had as many instances of "we’re out of that" here (though could just be because don’t go as often). Food, service, etc... all fine. Met the beer buyer here (while out at another beer establishment) and was pleased to find out she is actually a beer geek!“

“Not wildly impressed to be honest. It started with asking for a sample of the Victory Headwaters on cask, and being given a sample of Starr Hill Cryptical and being told that it was, in fact the pale ale - because pale ale and stout are so easy to mistake. This was then followed by my first two beers chosen not being available. My burger was decent, but the price is out of all proportion with the food on the plate. Service was ok, but no more so than that.“

“Well, the place looks rather inviting but the food and beer are mediocre. There were four house beers on at my visit, and one was rather skunky. The BBQ is fair, at best. I had the sampler so I could appropriately judge 3 meats. The brisket was falling apart (good) but overly dry (bad). The house sauce made things better, but did not make up for the other let downs. The wait staff seemed preoccupied though the place was relatively empty, and it was prime lunch time on Saturday. There was plenty of traffic around, though not too many were stopping here.“

“Great beer selection. Poor service, and very expensive. I love the place, and its probably better than the downtown location, but the service often shoddy at best.“

“Came here for the first time for the 2nd annual Virginia Beer Festival. so most of my time was spent outside though I did get a good look inside. Kinda tough to get to and pretty much in the middle of nowhere, but parking is ample.. if they can accomodate all of us at the festival they can accomodate anyone. The inside is nice with lots of seating (some patio seating as well it looked like). Very large place. Nice long bar with the taps actually on the bar and the big cooler of bottles behind. Fairly typical cap ale setup. Prices are decent. People were all very nice and our waitress was working VERY hard but was nice the whole time anyway. Low marks on the food... not only was it not the regular menu, but, though tasty, two in our party both became ill, one of them being myself. Probably a one time thing, but still very lame. Still a good stop if you’re in the Midlo area.“

“Some of the staff are very knowledgeable about the beer and helpful....then there are the others. Some of the beer was good and interesting.....then there are the others. There are much worse places for beer and bbq but I won’t make an extra trip for extra billys.“

“In the spirit of the other two Capital Ale Houses in Richmond, this place is awesome. It definitely has a different vibe than the Richmond and Innsbrook locations. This has an older crowd and is more set up to be a restaurant, with the exception of the chill area upstairs. Upstairs, they’ve got bar tables and stools, with pool tables set up inside. Highly recommend if you get to Midlothian. The great selection of the other cap ales.“

“A nice little spot out in Midlothian, this location has the same quality of beer as the other Capital Ale House locations. The main difference between this location and the others is that the taps are on top of the bar as opposed to on the wall behind the bar, this makes it a bit easier to read what’s on tap and figure out what’s just on that isnt yet on the menu. Food is tasty as always. Selection outstanding, and they commonly hide away rare beers. The beer buyer from the Innsbrook location moved to this location, so this may be the top spot for finding rare stuff stashed away now. Features a game room upstairs which overlooks the downstairs bar. Parking is a bit tight currently, but the lot still has work to be done on it, and the bar seems to attract a very large crowd. Overall, another high quality Capital Ale House location.“

“First impression: a pleasant mix between the Glen Allen and the Downtown locations. The upbeat jazzy music allows for a classy elegance to match the decor. The array of prominantly positioned taps is a focal point of the bar, which also features the signature imbedded ice strip, though, while I was there, still hadn’t quite frozen over. Patio seating located outside in a narrow strip. The upstairs game room features two pools tables and a handful of small hightop tables, but suprisingly, no serving area. This is compensated for by the semi-private ’ale rooms’, which I’m sure will be the most saught after seating in the establishment. Overall, very good stuff from the people who have already provided so much quality beer to such a great quantity of drinkers. If downtown wasn’t my home base, this would be.“

“Very nice brewpub. The main reason to go is for the food. Some of the best BBQ in richmond. The beer isn’t bad for only 5 taps. The staff know the beer that’s brewed, and make sure that you have a pleasant experience.“
