72 /100 Dragon Hotel (Bar) MARKET SQUARE A marvellous example of a well-preserved black and white timbered 17th coaching inn situated in the centre of Montgomery near to the town hall. It seems to serve a few different purposes, a hotel mainly, but also provides minibus hire, bike hire and can advise on the many cycling and walking routes in the area. The bar bit is towards the back as you enter from the main door through the last door on the left. There are some super comfortable sofas at the back, if a group of walkers are not taking advantage of them, and a well-stocked book shelf. Expect around 5 local cask ales from Montys and Three Tuns on handpull plus some lagers. Not a pub as such as but a comfortable space to sample some local beer. |
70 /100 POOL ROAD Brewery tap for Monty's brewery, but also quite a nice cosy pub in its own right. Monty's rule the pumps and taps with 4 cask and 4 keg, some Gwynt Y Ddraig cider in the fridge. Seems to have been extended a little to accompany large groups / travelling CAMRA outings. A small pilot brewery can be viewed through a window, which is still used to brew one-offs and limited editions. A good amount of the current range available to buy in bottle form, alongside some merchandise. Great views across the rolling Welsh hills. Nice place. |
