Pugh's Food Hall (Grocery Store)
B4262
“Part of a large but slightly dilapidated-looking garden centre shopping complex - easy to find and not far from the M4 motorway. There are lots of other shops here (clothes, books and surprisingly reptiles in addition to the garden centre) to keep families and significant others entertained. The food hall looks quite modern and shiny inside compared to the exterior. It's got a nice (if slightly overpriced) deli counter and also a chocolate counter, but sadly much of the packaged food is not local, being instead of the national farm shop brands such as Cottage Delight. Fortunately on the beer front things are rather better, with all of the 50 or so beers being from Welsh micros (including many local ones). Beer prices were about what you'd expect for a farm shop (ie more than a supermarket, less than a craft beer shop). Service was fine; friendly and fast enough. Overall I didn't rate the rest of the food hall particularly highly, but the beer selection is definitely worth a look if you're in the area. Make sure you also take time out to visit the amazing Castell Coch a couple of miles to the north east of here.“
