| 84 /100 225 MARKET ST “A great little brewery just a couple of blocks from Main Street, but a whoel world away from the Andy Griffith Mayberry scene that has consumed most of the downtown area. They have a small tasting room with some outside seating. New, clean, and modern. Staff was friendly and the beers were really good. They had 8 or 9 on tap when we viisited including 4 IPAs, serveral stouts, and a saison brewed with figs. They have games available and a nice dart board. Also bottle shop selling a decent selection of bottled craft beer.“ |
| 98 /100 238 MARKET STREET “Cool brewery recently opened up, located just one block off the main drag in Mount Airy NC. Its in a older building that has been revitalized. Super cool warm welcoming vibe. Flights, pints, samples, and cans readily available from their large list of house beers. Very large and roomy inside with lots of space. They have a cool bar area. Service was top notch, with the owner/brewer taking time from his busy schedule to tell us about his passion for beers and brewing. They do have some food on site, but I did not try any of it. Restrooms were clean and well lit. One of the coolest new breweries I have visited. Stop in today and I'm sure you will agree. While here I looked for Travler, even called out for him, but alas he was not here!! Better luck next time!!“ |
| 90 /100 225 MARKET ST “White elephant beer company is located on the hacked up part of Market street just one block off of the main drag in Mt Airy NC. No actual parking to speak of, you will have to park in a lot and walk over. Outdoor seating, and indoor seating, and a bar area. Like a lot of places its in a reconditioned older building that has a cool vibe. Super clean inside with house beers on tap, a small refrigerator section and some bottles. Samples, flights, pints, and crowlers all available. You can have a growler filled if you bring one, but they do not sell them. Service was fast and friendly. Everything was nice and clean. This is one brewery to watch. I enjoyed my visit. While here I looked for Tarvler, even called out for him, but alas he was not here! Better luck next time!“ |
| 66 /100 308 N. MAIN STREET “4 beers on tap. Nice wide open bar area. A bit upscale but super friendly. More of a winery and brewery but still ok. If you are going to Mayberry you gotta stop in. A 4 beer flight $3. What can I say I based my value number on the price of the flight.“ |
| 64 /100 308 N. MAIN STREET “Originally reviewed: 3/5/10. Stopped in here for lunch today on my way back to Winston. Located just north of the "historic" part of downtown, with all the Andy Griffith fare. I walk in and the place is huge inside! Very deep restaurant with lost of space and tables. In the center of the place on the left is a stage for bands to come and play. Nice feature. The bar is on the right side. Pretty average size. Seats a decent amount of people. Very few people here for lunch.
The lady behind the bar was very kind and talkative. As I was the only one there for awhile, we talked a good bit. She told me the history of the place, and how they’ve grown. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get any of there beer. They ran out the night before! Eek. Of all the times... She said that they had a good band there the night before and they ran dry. They had two brews on tap at the time. The Pale Ale that is listed, and an IPA. Unfortunately I couldn’t try the IPA to add it to the site. They carry just a handful of craft bottles as well. I got the Sam Adams Light. She poured it into a room temperature pilsner glass, thankfully.
I ordered lunch. Got the Pittsburgher with potato salad. Excellent sandwich! Lots of roast beef, melted provolone, banana peppers, and onions. Superb. The potato salad was a little bland, but good nonetheless. I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t get to try their beer, but I will be back. Loved their food, and the service was stellar. Recommend.“ |
| 60 /100 308 N. MAIN STREET “Located in downtown Mt. Airy aka Mayberry. There is a parking lot next to the very large building they own. Big open area with a bar to the right and a deli to the left. It looks like they could easily accomodate large events in here. Plenty of tables are scattered around. Primarily a winery the have two beers that are contract brewed by Foothills. BE CAREFUL as they have 4 taps and will give you other Foothills beers and not tell you. The bartender didn’t try to hide the fact they were Foothills beers but there was also no indication of them anywhere. Prices are cheap. A sampler of 4 beers is $3, pints are $4 and one gallon growlers are $10 for glass and $25 for fills. Their two "house" beers were solid. Didn’t try any wine.“ |
| 52 /100 308 N. MAIN STREET “This is a winery/ bistro located in downtown Mount Airy. It’s in a large, open brick building with a sophisticated ambiance inside which is a welcome contrast to the rest of the shops on Main Street. The menu looks quite good with gourmet fare, but we had just eaten prior to our visit and did not sample any food. The bar offers wine tastings with a friendly, informed, and helpful bartender. At the time of my visit they only had a pale ale for sale, but had two others in the works. If you so desire to drink a different beer, Newcastle or Shiner Bock seemed to be the best available option. Yeah, not much in the way of selection. Their beer is available by the glass or in growlers. We sampled the muscadine wines as well and I was pleased with them. As a winery and probably as a bistro, this is a wonderful stop. I had a very pleasant time here. However, strictly from a beer standpoint, Old North State is lacking as their obvious focus is overwhelmingly on wine and food.“ |
