“We came here on 25.11.2018. Newly opened brewpub in Mount Joy. One large room with a long U-shaped bar. Some tables made of europallets, which I have never seen before. The brewhouse is in a separate room behind. You can view the brewhouse through a glass pane. We tasted 3 NEIPA‘s. 2 were flat but not bad. One had a beer flaw. They definitely need to work on their beer quality. Food was quite good. You have to order at another counter on a separate bill. Had a Cheeseburger with very good fries. We will check out this place in 6 months again.“

“Came here 22.11.2017. A very dark purp with a nice decoration. Did not have any of their own beers, some good guest beers from e.g Deschuttes or Sweatwater. Not a bad place but boxing special either.“

“After hearing about this place for over 15 years from my daughter and son in law, I was able to swing by here for a business lunch today. Wow, why didn’t I come here earlier? This is a place hard to define. It is multifaceted and cavernous, literally, the "Catacombs" were built in a limestone cavern below the tavern. For lunch I had a very good Reuben sandwich and some cole slaw. My friend had an appetizer of wings, and these wings were huge and they filled him up! They have some very nice, nationally known, quality beers on tap, but I thought that I would try the local ones. I chose well, two of this months selections- the Peat smoked Scotch", and the "Imperial IPA". Both are well worth trying. Our server Ra erin really knows the menu and the beers. She was a big help. Afterwards the General Manager Sam took us for a nice behind the scenes tour. They own the hotel next door and they have some nicely themed , romantic get away rooms. They have a really cool biergarten outside too! They have all kinds of spaces for special events. I am thinking of asking to have my retirement party here, and I live 60 miles away!“

“When visiting my parents in PA, we have spent time here. And what’s great about this place is that they keep a pretty clean place. Service is pretty good too. I have seen some large parties in here and with my crew in another part of the restaurant, yes, they know how to keep it up with everything. With that being said, well, it may not be a true "beer destination," they take pride in everything else. It’s worth a shot if you’re passing through, just don’t expect to get Tired Hands or any high end beers.“

“OK, first of all, this place is apparently pronounced "boobies." I know. It’s in an ancient building smack in the middle of a storybook-cute town. You enter into almost complete darkness, with a sign reading "catacombs," then staff pop out of the darkness to direct you to the biergarten. And what a biergarten it was - under the shade of a huge oak tree and some tall bamboo, with lots of tables with umbrellas, as well as an outside bar. Staff have to come from inside the cave/interior to serve you, though, so service was slightly slow, but in such a beautiful setting on a gorgeous day, I didn’t mind. Only two of their beers were on, both barely passable, and a dozen guests, half of which were macros. No flights when I visited. Oh well. Food was very tasty. I would return, just not for the beer. Hopefully they’ll up their game as craft beer takes hold in town.“

“Oh man I loved this place. Visited in the late spring/early summer. The seating is split indoor and outdoor, with bars to sit at both inside and outside as well. We sat at the outside bar. The outside area had plenty of seating, a real laid back vibe, and some dude playing chill adult contemporary acoustic stuff on guitar. 6 house beers available to try the day we visited with flights of 5 available for.... $10 i think? I dunno, it was reasonable. If you’re trying to tick 12 new beers or get the best beer within 50 miles, this isn’t the place for you. But friendly service, good enough beer, and a downright awesome space for a brewpub make for a dope ass time in my book. It looks to me like they have a good rotation with not a lot of repeat offerings, so I definitely plan on visiting again in the future.“

“First visit to Bube’s and I had a great time. Was there for a quiet monday lunch. Great atmosphere...old and warm with hardwood and stone...cant wait to visit in the spring/summer and check out the beer garden. I was pleasantly suprised by the quality of their house beers and though i didnt order any, they had some decent guest taps/bottles. My burger and baked beans were tasty and the menu looks good. Service was excellent! Corrinne the bartender and Dan the cook were awesome and chef Anthony was fun as well. Great people/great place!:“

“Great appearance from the outside reflrecting an Old World brewery. Love the old world look inside. It is very rustic with lots of dark wood and minus the flash. Food was good at a fair price and they had a nice selction of beer. I sampled the dunkleweizen, chocolate porter, blonde bock and scottish ale and they were all quite good.“

“Um, where do I start? A German pub with sand, beach umbrellas, surf music, and a bartender in board shorts, a Hurley t-shirt, and straw hat. The beers were about as confused as the place itself.“

“This place was not at all what I was expecting and I’m still not sure if that’s a good thing or not. From the outside, the place looks like an old German beer house. Once inside that all changed.... Went to the right under a narrow archway into what looked like the bar area. What we found was basically Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville. The entire floor was covered in sand, so all the tables and chairs sat down in the sand with giant beach umbrellas and palm trees filling out what little space was there to begin with. Bartender knew next to nothing about beer and was hardly attentive, but he fit in well with a straw hat and board shorts. House beers were just okay, but they did home some stuff on the brew schedule that sounded good. Only came for beer, so I didn’t check out the food menu.“

“Pronounced boobies. This is a really cool place. Lots of atmosphere, nifty beers and good food. Glad I stopped here. Get the short tour of the candle lit caverns. One of the oldest breweries, even served beer as an underground speakeasy during prohibition. How cool is that? Chris our server was just plain freindly. Lovely dining experience, even with family in tow. Sampled 5 of their on site brews for $5. Nice sized samples too. We ate upstair in the beirgarten but if you want to spend some cash, you can eat 50 foot down under in the candle lit caverns.“

“Nice looking old brewery attached to the Central Hotel ... Brewery was bigger in production days, now a much smaller micro brewery in comparison ... has an old looking bar, museum/gift shop, biergarden and "catacombs" which are 45 ft below ground where they used to store there beer. Definitely an awesome ambiance to eat and drink in a candlelit cave. The service was great, very friendly staff. They had four house brews and quite a few micro’s, mostly from PA. The house beer was decent and drinkable, but just a tier above homebrew. The food was good, but a little overpriced. I guess you pay for the ambiance. All in all I wouldn’t go out of my way to return, but maybe with a bigger group on a themed night (check the website for feasts/themed nights).“

“I’m not quite sure what to make of this place. It looks like a restored warehouse on the outside. Inside they have what looks to be the bar in Hamburg where the Beatles used to play, and outdoor biergarten, a restaurant, and a couple of other things. They had only 5 things on tap. They were all of the sessionable type. They also had other guest brews, most of which where of the bmc variety although you could also get a Lindeman’s Framboise as well. There aren’t any tv’s in the bar so it makes it conducive for conversation. I found my sandwich a bit soggy although the fries were excellent. They have a large and eclectic menu and the cynic in me wonders if even Gordon Ramsay himself could cook it all on a consistent basis. It’s not a bad place by any stretch but I can’t say it blew my doors off either.“

“Went to try a few of their own brews, and had dinner in the Bottleworks. A little small, but a nice place for dinner. Loved the warehouse feel. Had a great waitress, and a fine conversation with the manager, as we were there early and things were a little slower paced. We’ve also been to the Catacombs in years past, and were very impressed with that as well. Even picked up a growler for later. Yeah, we’ll be going back, to be sure.“

“The decor of this place is fatastic, in this old 1800s brewery decor meeting a German beer hall and a British pub. Pu grub available. Very good and friendly service, knowlegeable. The beers are OK but nothing fantastic. Each samples are 1.10$ for 3 ounces. But the place itself is a brewing museum, with catacomb like lagering areas, old wooden gard tanks, a chic restaurant. If your in brewing history, a must see.“

“What a very interesting place. Went with the wife & kid on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. I got the 5 beer sampler - all were pretty good. Food was pretty good as well. I had the french dip style beef sandwich. Only weird food item was the pretzel & cheese dip appetizer - I would not order it again. Waitress was OK, but it seemed like they were not quite ready for lunch. I hope to go back and do dinner in the catacombs!!“

“This is my favorite place to eat; period. The food is EXCELLENT. We travel 45 minutes every other week or so to enjoy this place. They have the best hot wings I have ever had. I try hot wings everywhere I go, but Mosby’s is the bar to beat, and so far nobody has beat them. They have the standard beers and had Samuel Adams on tap when I had never heard of them before. They usually do have a selection of seasonal beers in bottles. If you want to experience a particular beer with excellent food, this is definitely the place.“

“Some of the other reviewers were much too harsh IMHO. First off, this is a first rate beer destination! Where else can you wander about an 1800’s era brewery with a fresh brewed beer in your hand!!! Wood casks so big you can crawl inside if you wanted. The brewers are brewing on Saturdays and are so willing to engage in conversation, and are so committed to the success of the place and customer satisfaction. For our visit service was great, and we stayed with pub fare, and were quite satisfied. Luck of the draw had no hoppy beers on tap, which was a disappointment for me, especially as I sat in the beer garden and could smell the IPA that the brewers were brewing! What I had was acceptable representations of the styles, good efforts with no remarkable flaws, but not outstanding. I could drink them all night!! I have to repeat, this is a first rate beer destination, and a must see for every beer enthusiast!!!“

“Stopped in on a Friday afternoon and sat at the bar. Dinner crowd was not yet coming in. Got a five-beer sampler and they were pretty good. Bartender was friendly enough, and was able to answer the few questions I had. Seems like a quiet little neighborhood-village brewpub with a small but steady clientele. Very easy to reach from the highway and worth a small detour. I wouldn’t call this a destination, however. Didn’t get a chance to try the food, but everyone who was eating seemed to be enjoying theirs.“

“Bube’s is a cool place, I recommend eating in the Catacombs and getting the little tour of the old brewery as they take you down there. Not a good idea if you can’t stand confined places, or eating in a very dark setting...stay upstairs. But otherwise I find that the atmosphere here is very interesting and different. The food was very good, I ordered the NY Strip it was cooked to order and the portions were good. The biggest complaint I have is that their menu is not more extensive, but you get that a lot of times with restaurants in this price range. Service was good, once we were seated we were taken care of rather quickly and they keep your water glasses full and constantly stop by for drink orders. This place makes a great special occasion outing. Bube’s gets a lot of so-so reviews, and I don’t know why. If you are into the setting and just wish to have a relaxing meal, its a great place. Upstairs they have all kinds of live music and a biergarten which I haven’t really checked out yet. Very cool place, stop in if you are in Mt Joy.“

“This place has a very cool European flavor to it. There are old bottles in the walls, glasses on the ceiling, they have a Catacomb, and a Beer garden too. The beer is average to good, the service was ok, and the food was enjoyable!!! But i must tell you we were attacked by a Kamikaze fly.......lol. Anyway, If you get a chance to check this place out, do so!!! Hooray for Boobies........... :)“

“What was an old small brewery from the 1800s is now a new microbrewery. If you get the chance to do the special feasts they have in the catacombs it’s worth the extra money for the show. Cool old world atmosphere with a nice outdoor beer garden. The bar Bottling Works is neat with the old objects, bottles and atmosphere but kind of small, especially when trying to watch a live band. There is a lot going on and the food is pretty good too, nice selection. Beer ranged from good to great, really like the Belgian Dubbel. You can even buy beer brewing supplies there. Take the free tour and hear about the haunted happenings. The service can be a little hit or miss depending on how busy.“

“While this place does have a bit of an identity crisis what is there is quite good. They typically have 4-6 of their own beers on tap at any given time, which range from ok to pretty good, as well as a few other local micros. The food is pretty good for standard pub fare, though a tad bit pricey. Service was good and the bartender was knowledgeable about the beers she was serving (and cute too). Worth checking out if you are in the Lancaster, PA area.“

“This is one weird place. It’s in a historical building with a museum and a homebrew shop upstairs. While I was there they were having some sort of medieval feast in the catacombs (yes, there are catacombs). The weather was nice, so we sat outside on the patio. The service was a bit slow, but they were pretty busy, so that’s ok. There were only 3 house beers on tap, none of which were that good. I sampled them, then tried to order some other local beers from the beer list. It literally took me 4 tries to order something they actually had. I think it’s time to update the menu. The food was ok, but nothing to rave about. Better as a museum than a brewpub.“

“I like Bube’s. Built inside a historic brewery, there’s a dusty bottle museum / homebrewing shop upstairs, old brewing equipment, dank, dark atmosphere and wet brick everywhere. It’s easy to get lost when you first enter, with a restaurant next door and downstairs, a bar to the right, brewing equipment forward, the museum upstairs: I felt like I was in one of those old text-based computer games where I have to pick a direction and don’t have any idea. Expect long lines on the weekend. We didn’t get to see the Catacombs or the Biergarten, but even the lesser features of the brewery were damn cool. Service was a bit slow, and the women at the front desk (who didn’t really seem to fit in their pseudo beer-wench attire) weren’t exceedingly pleasant. Our waitress was nice enough, if a bit slow. Only four house beers on tap when we went (plus some other random macros and micros): Cream Ale, Scotch Ale, Saison, and an IPA. All decent but unremarkable. They had a number of vegetarian options, and their Santa Fe (Black Bean) burger was quite good. Really neat place, and I definitely wouldn’t mind going back (with reservations to either the Catacombs or the restaurant next door this time).“

“Went here with hopdog...see his comments below on the service. I didnt really like my food either. I got some gourmet grilled cheese. Was made with thin cheap white bread, regular American cheese and fishy smelling crab meat. The building is amazing though. Worth stopping by just to explore this historic landmark. I would like to make it back out for one of their murder mystery dinners. Beer was ok...the Saison was well done,“

“Headed there on a Saturday at 5pm. One of the 1st people seated. Talk about potential. What a beautiful place inside. Shame the service was probably the worst service I’ve gotten in a long time. I’m talking 30 - 40min for drinks. 1.5 hrs for my soup and a almost a total of 3 hours from the time we sat down to the time we finally got our bill. Half our food was ice cold with some of the order messed up to boot. Waitress had some BS story about how she got ’frazzled’ during the day. Tough shit. Shame as the service was so bad, I will second guess ever stopping by again.“

“July 2007. What an awesome building! We ate lunch and had some beers in the biergarden. Service was good enough I guess -- maybe a bit inattentive, considering we were the only ones there for a while. The food was decent enough, too, as were the beers. I would’ve like the opportunity to check out some of the rest of the building, but by the historic location has quite the charm. Worth a visit.“

“It’s pronounced "boobies" - seriously. Named after a German brewer who owned the building back in the 1800s, his name was pronounced "buBESS" but everyone in town calls it "boobies". Awesome old building, the catacombs, old wooden mash tuns and fermentation barrels, there’s a hotel in the back for banquets, and the original steam engine which powered the brewery sits in the courtyard. Beer quality was so-so, they had a fresh ESB on tap when I visited that tasted like a good homebrew. Food was decent, nothing special. But the building is the thing to see here.“

“As a frequenter of this establishment over the years I can say that I love the building and it’s history. Definitely fun to explore the catacombs and the pub side has a lot of interesting knick-knacks, including an outstanding bottle collection. However, the service leaves something to be desired, especially on the pub side. The waitresses are never knowlegdeable about the beer, and they seem to forget about now and then. As far as the beer goes, it appears to be more of a homebrewing operation, where a couple of guys get together on Saturdays to make up a batch. Overall, I like the place, but wish they would concentrate on their service and beer product a little more.“

“This is one of the most fantastic brewpubs I’ve ever been to. A really old place, really dark, and with low doorways, wooden staircaises, glasses hanging from the cealing, and old bottles in glass cupboards, it has a real authentic feel to it. The catacombs is a story by itself with a covered up hole where the beer was smuggled out during prohibition, and lots of the old brewing equipment, which reminds me of the lambic breweries I’ve visited. Don’t miss the catacombs. When we were there they were doing some maintenance to the lines, so they only had one beer on, which was a disappointment, but then I must come back some day. The waiter was very confused about whether or not they had any beer available. I had the best burger of my 2 week stay in the US.“

“This is a very historic building with a lot of charm and intrigue. I did not make it to the catacombs, but did go to the gift shop/museum. The draft list was decent, with a handful made on the premises. The food was above average, but nothing to write home about. The outside patio area reminded me a lot of a ham and egger version of Fordham, yet it still maintained a certain charm. Service was passable.“

“What a freaking interesting amalgamation of a tavern, pub, bar, restaraunt, eatery & tour site. Off the betaen track and literally in a neighborhood. As soon as we entered (on off hours) we were whisked about for a complete guided tour. Many alcoves, nooks & cranny’s. Delightfully delapidated in spots, has an outdoor area and the cellars are just unique. Ate food in the bar - good enough & sampled their branded beers. Stop by. You’ll be glad you did!“

“This is the place to go for ambiance. We first checkedout the corner restraunt, which was not serving yet. Very spooky. They have ghost tours there every once in a while to see Bube’s ghost.

When you enter into the main area, there is a reception foyer live room with a couple of girls in traditional outfits to direct you or take reservations. They are also the tour guides. The bar/nightlife area consists of two rooms. In front is some seating and a bar, which continues into the backj room that is mainly for bands, but is really cool from a nice circulation of AC. They had 5 of their beers on tap (acceptable, but nothing great) on our visit, and also had a broad selection of macros on tap and in bottles. We skipped eating upstaris and took the plunge to eat 43ft undergound in one of the catacomb rooms. Really cool. Food was not really worth the price, but it is worth the experience. The only drawback with eating down below was the climb every time you had to pee. This is a must see place, but I do recommend an overnight stay to fully enjoy things.“

“great atmosphere. Brewery and two restaurants are in an old converted building. One dinining area called the catacombs is 48 ft below ground. When i went there was a nice accoustic band which even though i was near the stage it wasn’t that loud that i couldn’t have conversations with my friends which was good. Pretty good beer selection besides there own brews. The food i got was burnt to hell so may change the food rating if i go again and its better. “I felt like Indiana Jones at this establishment with its dining area under caverns, its Victorian charm, the upstairs store which was part antique museum/part homebrew store, and the very dark bar with a beer garden outside that has plants lining it. I would go one direction without knowing what to expect, and the staff don’t seem to care. The neighborhood seems a bit run down though. It didn’t seem like a particularly Amish part of Lancaster County. We had Amish next door where we stayed so it was nice seeing lights and civilization for a few hours. The food wasn’t bad-my in laws from the UK were satisfied. There weren’t too many of their beers on tap but the ones I sampled were pretty tasty. I took a few home in growlers. The staff were very attentive.“

“Very interesting place, especially the history, you can take either a self-guided tour around the complex, or if you have reservations for one of the more upscale dining rooms, they will give you a guided tour, historic-type ambiance, the one dining area is about 35 feet below street level down in the caverns, unfortunately didn’t get a chance to check that place out though, food is pretty decent, anything from wings to a filet, I was very disappointed to see that only four of their own beers were on tap, they had plenty of ’guest’ beers from other local breweries, some of them on draft, the service was friendly and knowledgeable, it was a little dark inside the pub area, very nice time, worth checking out “
