Plaza Liquor Mart (Beer Store)
650 S 10TH ST
“This place is 45 minutes from my home, and it’s worth the drive. They have a pretty good selection of craft beer. Plenty of local brew sand foreign beer as well. Parking lot is well ligand prices are pretty good. This store displays Rate Beer ratings on a lot of their craft selections. They will order if they don’t have what you’re looking for. Service is pretty good, but these people are not conversationalists. Overall, it’s my go to store right now. Can’t beat the selection in this area.“

“I haven’t found the selection they have here without driving to Randall’s in Fairview Heights, IL.“

9th Street Grill (Restaurant)
222 SOUTH 9TH STREET
“(Visited 04/2010): 9th Street Grill is located in downtown Mt. Vernon shockingly on 9th Street right off Broadway. Street parking is readily available on that block. The restaurant has a dark green and red motif and a black ceiling and several chandeliers. It almost looks like an old diner painted over to resemble and Italian vineyard. The beer selection is pretty good for a town this size. There are 5 taps featuring brewers like Schlafly, Boulevard, and Stella. In addition there are bottles from Rogue, Shiner, Chimay, Bel’s, Anchor and Lindeman’s. Service has been pretty good on my visits. The staff are obviously not beer experts but have a basic understand of the styles of beer they are offering. Food at 9th Street is pretty solid. The fresh baked bread served with meals is particularly good. The dinners I have had there have been consistently tasty. Overall this place is by no means a beer destination but in a city this size it is nice to find a place that features a few good craft beers and decent food.“

64 /100 650 S. 10TH STREET
“(Visited 10/2008): This beer store is located near the town square of Mt. Vernon on 10th street (Rte 37). There is parking available pretty much all around the building. The interior is laid out with wine and liquor covering about 2/3 of the store, with the beer in coolers in the left and rear walls, and on shelves on the left side of the floor. There is a decent variety of beer here, including Sierra Nevada, O’Fallon, Schlafly, Boulevard, Rogue and others. They also have a few variety packs available from the regional brewers. Imports are UK and German-heavy. Service here is alright, the clerk asked if I needed anything but that was about the extent of it. Overall this spot would do for someone passing through who wanted some of the more common regional brews that are available. Aside from locals and passers-through, it probably isn’t worth a long drive to visit though.“
