“decent, but greasy food. service is solid. they don’t always have good beers on tap, but when they do they REALLY do. need more space on the inside and better decoration, though. most of the time you don’t notice the terribly tacky interior design because it’s so crowded all you see are the people.“

“Being from out of town this was our second visit and it was a good one. We were with friends that enjoy beer as much as we do. Our last beer was a triple fermented imperial stout by Anchorage Brewing. To find this beer in the middle of Iowa makes this one of our best stops of this trip. Our server knew beer and was helpful. Did I say the food was good, too. If you traveling on I-80, go up to North Liberty.“

“A winner since it opened. Reds has great ambiance and amazing food. The beer selection is unheard of in Iowa, and the prices are on point. If you are ever in the area it’s worth a stop.“

“Located in a residential neighborhood across the street from something called the JA and Tap. The place was packed on a Saturday night but there are some grass lots next to the parking lot for extra parking. Theres lots of dark wood on the inside which adds an intimacy to the place which is somewhat undercut by the sheer volume this place can produce. The tap list was solid but leaned towards west coast craft. The bartenders were busy but they all pitched in to help me. The fries were nothing to write home about but the cheeseburger was fantastic. Like other places in Iowa the beer is a touch expensive, of course they have better stuff than I ever expected, but the food was very reasonably priced. All in all it’s another really good place in what Is clearly an underrated state for craft beer.“

“Located in a shopping center across the street from a trailer park which isn’t a value judgement merely a statement of fact. Beer is on the two far right aisles and the back coolers. Organization was haphazard and some of the bottles were a bit dusty. They do had some interesting beers but the great majority of what they have you can find at Johns.“

“Nice place. Big outdoor patio with tons in the summer. Quite a few draft lines but not too many to become annoying. They seem to have a pretty deep cellar with random things being pulled at given times. Probably one of the best beer bars in Iowa. Service is passable but no different than any place around the area. Food is decent, exactly what you’d expect from a beer bar. This place does get quite packed and quite loud any given day of the week, and as far as I know they don’t take reservations. Parking can be a bit difficult at times as well.“

“Stopped by for lunch. Service was friendly and up on the beer selection. Nice selection of draft beers. They had a tap menu and a bottle menu. Bottles available for carry-out. Bottle menu was very impressive. Food was very good and prices seemed reasonable. Well worth the few miles north of Iowa City.“

“Best bottle selection I have ever seen and always a great draft rotation to allow me to explore new styles. It's fair to say they have the right formula for craft beer in Iowa.“

“This was a few miles off I-80 and was easy to find. Pretty good selection and prices, between this and John’s, this is a good alternative, it even has a few beers that John’s didn’t carry or have in stock. I’ll have to go back again, it was a pretty good beer/wine/spirits store.“

“Great food and a good selection of beer for the area. Only 12 taps with high bottle prices would be the main drawback. This place is always packed no matter what night of the week and it is very loud with televisions on the bar side and loud talking on both sides of the restaurant. That said, the food is wonderful and the wait staff is generally knowledgeable and friendly although the manager and owner seem to know less about beer than the staff. The bottle selection is very good and what is on tap is a good selection of what is available in Iowa. If you are in the area and want some great food and good this is a good place to stop.“

“Visited here recently and I was very impressed. The line up was fairly small but all quality. Various Bell’s, Toppling Goliath and specialty New Belgium brews graced the taps. The bartender was knowledgeable and even let me sample a couple beers. Solid overall line up and a fun place to visit. Great place for a stop to get some great beer. I will definitely return.“

“Went to Red’s for the first time this past Sunday for their Brunch. I absolutely loved it. I’d heard a lot about it, but it was above and beyond what I expected. Pretty much every item available on the brunch line up was delicious. The beer selection, for this part of the world(Iowa City/QC area) is fantastic. The staff, even the waitresses, were knowledgeable about the beers they offered. They also print up tap lists every time they change a keg or two, which is rare to find in my experience. I’ll definitely be going back whenever I’m in the area.“

“Red’s taplist is always evolving, which keeps their customers coming back for more. Their food and great service are top notch. It can be difficult to get a seat during the happy hour or special events, but it is well worth the wait, and while waiting try a pint or two!“

“I would have to agree with the last post, I feel like the bottle beer selection is great, and the tap even better. The happy hour is fun, as you can get two Bells Two Hearted’s for 5 bucks. Great deal. Good rotating beers, including Jolly Pumpkin. Yes, Jolly Pumpkin.“

“Great place for food and beer. Best to call ahead and get your name on the waiting list; there’s usually a good crowd. Beer selection is about as good as it gets in Iowa. Lots of rotating tap selections, from Beligan brews to American craft, and usually served in appropriate glassware. Anyone claiming the beer selection is lacking should consider this: Red’s held a beer dinner where they had ALL of the Mikkeller single-hop varietals on TAP. I believe they were the first, and perhaps one of the only, places in the country to do so. Food is always great, service is prompt and friendly.“

“Nice place with kind of an eclectic decor. 18 beers on tap with no BMC in sight. Wide selection of bottles. Menu mainly sandwiches, burgers and flatbreads. Got a draft St Bernardus Abt served in a St Bernardus glass! Pretty impressive. Prices reasonable. I’ll be back.“

“Set up like your basic strip mall liquor store. Employees friendly but didn’t do much except ring things up. Fairly long rack of domestic craft beer, with a smaller shelf of Belgian, German, UK and others. I was impressed with their selection.“

“On another new visit, this place continues to improve their selection. All new stuff I want to try and not a bunch of stuff I don’t want. This place continues to impress me and as it is much more accessible with a nicer presentation, I now prefer it to John’s. I visited here after being gone from the area for nearly two years. The store was improving when I left and has only gotten better. They are getting more domestic specialty brews as well as some better imports. The coolers have more shelf space and less of the the beer gets exposed to light on the shelf. I find this place less claustrophobic than John’s and also, it is easier to get in and out. I will stop in again next time I am up that way.“

“Food was really good. The slaw was a red cabbage slaw, not the more likely mayo based. The tap list was phenomenal. I had a glass of St. Bernardus Abt 12 for $6. The were serving half-pints of Bells Hop Slam too. Those who say the beer selection is safe are stupid. Their tap selection is quite good and cheap to boot. There’s something here to be had by everyone. And, apparently they have a 2 for 1 happy hour? I’ll definitely be back.“

“The food is great and I love the lighting and booth arrangement. The beer selection is "safe". In Iowa it’s hard to go to wild when we have so few people that will drink the out of ordinary beers. But this ratebeer not raterestaurant so sorry, only a 64.“

“Been many times. The beer selection has always been decent, but markedly improved with the abolition of Iowa’s ridiculous former beer law. Nice line up of American micros and Europeans. Bell’s, Peace Tree, Millstream, Mikkeller, Goose Island. The service is good, as is the food. They have the best outdoor patio in the area and it is far enough away from campus that the crowd tends to be more mature.“

“Always a must stop for me when I am back in the Iowa City area. This place just opened a few years ago but has already expanded. The beer selection is probably the second best in the area (second to John’s Grocery) and the owner is always more than willing to help with finding a beer. I always come here to get Sam Adams Tripel Bock. They also have imports and micros as well as the standard domestic macros.“
