“Decent bottle shop with a small bit decently curated beer selection in the back. Random arrangement of beers, with no method to the madness in terms of organization. There are a few gems to be discovered, however. Not a mandatory stop, but if you’re in Norwalk, it’s worth a visit.“

BJ Ryans BanC House (Restaurant)
16 RIVER ST.
“I always enjoy visiting Banc House, and I’m surprised they were not listed here. First off they specialize in BBQ and Crab, yes crab, king, snow crab, Dungeness and when the season is right soft shells and Maryland blues. And excellent BBQ, St Louis and Baby Back pork ribs, Lazy Bacon, Brisket and more. Killer corn bread and made to order creamed spinach. I can go on and on, huge menu, huge portions, always leave full and usually with left overs. Did I mention oysters clams and lobster all in a very attractive and friendly environment with a country charm, mason jars and really good modern country music. Oh yeah, over 30 bourbons on stock and yes the most relevant part for this site, they always stock around 90+ beers with plenty of one offs and seasonals. Totally love the diversity of their selection, easy to pare with the food... always the core brews (lawnmower beers), I mean it is BBQ but they focus on quality, multiples within a style and they totally support CT brewers, great local selection, I’d say one of the best in the area. So if your local and haven’t been or visiting Norwalk and dig great food, good music fun environment knowledgeable and courteous staff country music and great brews and bourbons....ya gotta check’em out.....PS I finished the night with a Clown Shoes The Barista after starting with Thimble Islands Brewery Experiment #152 on Draft as their IPA of the Moment. Bartender told me they have a keg of the NEBCO Coriolis going on next....I’ll be stopping by again.“

“Stopped in here during a recent visit to Norwalk for bmanning’s wedding. The biggest section of the store is taken up by plenty of wine, as would be expected from the name. Toward the black and in a short quarter-aisle near the right side is a selection of beer. There’s the standard BMC fare, but also a pretty decent selection of craft. Some Stone and other outside the area products plus Thomas Hooker and other Northeastern beers. In the cooler, they had two growler selections from Olde Burnside -- just what I came for -- as well as two growler selections from Berkshire and plenty of Berkshire bottles. I didn’t ask for help, so I can’t really comment there. There were a few people working the floor, so I assume I could have gotten some assistance. Selection wasn’t great and this isn’t something to stop off the highway for, but if you’re in the area you should be able to pick something worth trying up here.“

“Stopped in here during a recent visit to Norwalk for bmanning’s wedding. I was looking for some growlers of Olde Burnside and hoping to find some other Connecticut locals. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much to be found. The place is a large liquor store with the vast majority of its focus on liquor, wine, and BMC product. Along one wall falls a limited craft selection. Most of the beers available here were the largest national brands -- Sierra Nevada, Sam Adams -- along with the larger regional breweries of Long Trail and Magic Hat. The selection of imported craft and smaller locals was very limited. I was only able to spot a single sixer of Thomas Hooker. Someone did ask me if I needed any help, so I’ll give points for that, but there wasn’t much I had to worry about. Decent place in a pinch if you’re staying at the Hilton nearby, but no real reason to head here otherwise.“

“not a bad spot if your in the area, fair selection, and good selection of mix 12ers. The usual CT beers for the area, nothing thats going to be an amazing find, but I did find a mix 12er from River Horse that had some brewers selection that arent sold seperately. Good spot, kind of a pain to get into/ out of back onto Rt 1.“

“Wow. Great beer selection in southern Fairfield County. Great looking new store with a surprisingly wide range of beer selections although all of the six packs are in coolers with only the 750s and bombers out on the shelves. Found some good lambics which are hard to come by the area. Hope this places sticks around and takes off.“

“While a wine and spirits shop, Stew Leonard’s has expanded to craft brews as well. A surprisingly nice selection of craft beers are stocked here. Nothing too unusual or rare but a reasonable selection of the more main stream and accessible beers are here.“

“A small selection of microbrews with some 12 packs of the more popular stuff like Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada. Not too much outside of that range but a few choices from other places like Stone, Unibroue etc. More of a liquor and wine place.“

“Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They are always in a great mood and willing to help. There Beer selection is above average for any store in the area. I never know what I will find as he often gets his hand on some rare finds. One of the great features of this store is you can make up your own six packs and try as many different beers you want. Every week I try 6 new ones. They also have a good selection in bomber bottles as well as a great selection of wine. You must stop by if in the area.“

“a pretty big store but beer is not there interest. staff knows little other than to point you towards the beer isle. I have found some decent things randomly but nothing special by a long shot. prices are good and I use them to stock up for parties or pickup things like bigfoot.“

“A nice store in a nice area of Norwalk along Main Ave. Over the past year it has really beefed up its beer selection. They have all of your normal American macros and smaller breweries that you would find in the area plus an ever growing international selection. Probably the best selection in Norwalk.“

“A warehouse like store, though not quite that big with a decent selection. I work nearby and will swing by if I am going by a friends and need a 12 back of some sort of session beer at a good price.“

“A large store in the Wal*Mart shopping center. Boasts a small but respectable selection of NE regionals. Nothing on the higher end of the spectrum, but their prices are reasonable and they are your best bet if staying along Route 7.“

“While not the friendliest place, this particular store does stock Chimay, Allagash, Unibroue, Cisco and other larger craft brewers at the cheapest prices in the state. Don’t expect the staff to help you. They seem to know very little about beer. Don’t go here looking for special releases or rare beers. Go here if you are looking to save a little money stocking up on some of your favorites.“
