Loxley (Bar)
24-26 PELHAM STREET
“City centre chain bar modern-traditional design, just follow the tramlines and you'll pass it at some point. It sells cask but pretty much whatever the vessel liquid comes out of it's probably going to be something nationally available.“

“This is a small bar next to and part of the Junkyard bar in a narrow alleyway, just at the top of a flight of steps. It differs from the Junkyard in the types of beers, these going for a slightly more international feel. There was little of interest on the bar though. There was a friendly crowd in there.“

“A functional drinking den rather than anything particularly interesting on the inside, which feels very unusual for a city centre venue, but its row of cask ales pleased me enough on a fairly busy Saturday afternoon visit.“

“Opposite St Mary's Church at the southern end of the Lace Market area of the city, this is a relaxed one room pub with its bar along the back wall. On this expect to find plenty of cask and craft options, not just Castle Rock.“

Brew Cavern (Beer Store)
9 FLYING HORSE WALK
“Slightly hidden away in a central walkthrough arcade, it's worth seeking out for a fairly extensive selection in fridges with beers having put in a lot of mileage to get here as there's an eclectic selection. I usually buy local when traveling far and there were very few Nottingham options available, but picked up some Black Iris cans.“

“Great place. Was wondering if there was an indoor area as we just sat outside. Large area of their beers + guets, bottleshop and metal themed t-shirts. Friendly chatty staff. Great, yeah“

“Rammed on a Friday. If memory serves me correctly, we managed to get a bigger tables because two guys offered to swap with us..Great array of trad and craft. Old school metal dude bar staff. Great place.“

74 /100 UNIT 9 ROBIN HOOD INDUSTRIAL ESTATE, ALFRED STREET SOUTH
“Ratebeer pubcrawl, July 2023. In an area of renovated industrial units that made me think of tram sheds or something. Busy on a Friday evening. We pushed up the average age. A load of their beers on + fridge. Decent tap.“

“Has the slightly worn appearance that I'd associate with a student or indie/alt pub. Came to tick their beers, which were not great. Friendly.“

Junkyard (Bar)
12 BRIDLESMITH WALK
“Craft bar but on aiming at a more sophisticated style rather than industrial. Decent array of beers. Nice food. Just look up the beer list if you're in the area. Popular but not rammed on a Friday afternoon.“

68 /100 48-52 CANAL STREET
“Ratebeer Notts Pubcrawl, July 23. Certainly a cool venue, what with the canal going through the middle of it. Decent range of the Brewery's own beers and a range of craft. Suspect this is a popular post-work pub and they know peope will be into drinking some craft without being overly knowledgeable because the prices were taking the piss.“

Tap House (Bar)
10 BYNARD LANE
“City centre bar style venue with a twist, the all keg selection at the far end of the right-hand wall is self serve through placing a card on the reader of your beer of choice. It all tots up during your visit and you pay when you leave. Think of it like a petrol pump but with beer as you can see the cost go up as your liquid dispenses.“

“Attractive corner pub building facing the tram lines which dissects this part of the city centre from the Lace Market area. Pleasant traditional styled appearance with several real ales available on the bar, although disappointingly nothing new for an out of town visitor like me when I frequented here.“

“Small craft beer venue a minute's walk north of the station. Its s split level shop unit conversion with the bar at the rear of street facing room, which has a couple of seats put out on the street. Its mostly keg or fridge options in here, with its small bar packing the taps on. Nice intimate atmosphere.“

62 /100 123 CANAL STREET
“Despite its city centre location this mid 20th century pub in design is in a quiet place on a Saturday afternoon with not much footfall on the main road running parallel to the canal on its north side. I got there as it opened too so I was the only person in this two roomed venue with a central bar between the two. I chose the room on the right where a pool table exists. You'll find Castle Rock brews here as well as guests, cask and keg.“

“Attractive enough brick pub close to the station, but even closer to the Castle Rock brewery, just a short walk from the railway station. Expect to find Castle Rock and guest brews on its centrally located bar, the majority of seating is found on the wings of the open plan design.“

60 /100 5-7 CASTLE ROAD
“Smart looking casual style restaurant close to the Robin Hood statue below the Castle. Its a place to come for its location and food rather than seeking out the best brews currently available in the city, however I found a good real cider here on my visit.“

70 /100 48-52 CANAL STREET
“In a old canal warehouse on its north side through the city centre, one of several to have been converted into a pub in this area, it uses its red-brick walls atmospherically throughout. Unusually it still has an arm of the canal running into the building when many of these were drained and bricked up years ago. You'll cross a bridge to reach the bar where plenty of Castle Rock brews and guests exist. Has outdoor seating too by the water.“

“Pleasant venue in the on a pedestrian street in the atmospheric Lace Market area in the east of the centre. More a restaurant but looks a bit like a pub so you could sit at the bar and sup on of their often seen macro beers if you so wish.“

Junkyard (Bar)
12 BRIDLESMITH WALK
“Bar style venue, vibrant on the Saturday evening I visited and next door to the Herbert Kilpin, with which it shares its courtyard outdoor space. It has a more keg focused selection than its aforementioned neighbour, and a very worthwhile one.“

68 /100 10 BRIDLESMITH WALK
“Down an alleyway in the centre of the city, on the western side of the tramlines as it heads south. Has a decent enough cask selection on the bar against the wall, which has the inner courtyard area behind it. This is a shared outdoor space with Junkyard and you can go between the two venues via this space.“

“Central mainstream pub facing the tramlines where they turn to head south out of the centre. This is a gothic themed venue and the decor is interesting enough, its three regular and often seen cask ales are less interesting.“

68 /100 25 HIGH PAVEMENT
“On the rising High Pavement road to the east of the tramlines in the centre, this is a multi-room boutique style pub carrying a worthwhile selection of both crafted keg and cask, including local options. Not too big a place, so I couldn't find a seat on a Saturday night, but a very enjoyable visit all the same.“

“Visited with a rate beer group on the. Nottingham pub crawl. It’s a bit outside the city centre but has a tram stop right outside. The selection was mainly black iris as you’d expect with cask keg and bottles / cans. Nice beer garden feel lots of wooden benches. Really worth a trip out and I might take the tram next time.“

“Visited after the Nottingham Craft Beer Festival 2023. It was pretty busy as everyone went there. But a decent selection of beer. Quite a few from Varvar as there was a bit of a tap take over. Certain worth a visit and right near neon raptor so easy to find.“

“Central location, next to the Old Square Market. We came her for the autumn festival beers 2022. Three new ones for us, served in thirds. They had in fact 15 HP, in addition to the festival ales and the regular ones, there were a few HPs with local ales from Nottingham Brewery. Polite service. Traditional spoon with more cask ales than usually. (Visited with Finn 12.10.2022).“

“We had traditional breakfast on the first day of the Wetherspoon Real-ale festival in October 2022. After breakfast we shared five festival beers, all of them served in thirds. The place is over par for a spoon pub, with 15 HP, spilt in different sections, and well decorated for the autumn festival, even with a Norwegian flag over the bar. More seating upstairs. A cozy spoons, located just off the old market square in town. Polite service. (Visited with Finn, 12.10.2022).“

Tap House (Bar)
10 BYNARD LANE
“We went here just to see how the self-serve works. You get a card to be activated when you pour as much as you want from the taps, 20 taps to chose from. After the drinking session you pay the amount listed on the card. Fair beer price. It's quite similar to the Heim-pubs back home in Norway, but here you pay for the tab card before using the taps. Interesting, central location in Nottingham. Friendly, helpful service (Visited with Finn, 11.10.2022).“

“Quite cozy, old school corner pub just at the entrance to the pedestrian part of Stoney Street. Divided into different rooms with the serving bar to the left of the entrance, and a beer garden to the rear. Three of their own beers available on cask at our stay. Food option, some well made burgers on the menu. Friendly service. Good music played when we were here; Talking Head, Oasis, Bowie, and the very great Love Song by the Cure. (Evening visit with Finn, 11.10.2022).“

78 /100 UNIT 9 ROBIN HOOD INDUSTRIAL ESTATE, ALFRED STREET SOUTH
“Excellent tap room north of Sneinton market. Typical warehouse taproom but exceedingly friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They carry two cask and six keg, ranging from around 4% to 9%. And a nice array of styles: pales, a lager, an export stout, a white IPA. Cans in the fridge if you can't find what you want. And the prices are cheap (£5.50 for a pint of the 6.3% export stout). Top playlist piping in. The sort of place where you could stay all day and just get schnockered. Or have a quick third (after all it is just over five mibutes' walk from the best Hockley pubs). Or anything in between.“

Tap House (Bar)
10 BYNARD LANE
“Self-service tap pubs certainly divide opinion. I don't mind them as I can try miniscule amounts of beers and get lots of rates if I want, but I do kind of miss the old fashioned bar service. Anyway, Tap House Notts is a one-room bar with very basic decor. There are about 20 or so taps on a wall to your right as you walk in, but a couple of these are dedicated to cocktails. The beer selection is really good with rarer UK outfits such as Beer Hut, Twice Brewed and Bad Bunny among local favourites (Castle Rock, Shiny) and bigger names like Tiny Rebel. Relatively decent mix of styles as well although not quite enough beers that break out from the craft trinity of fruit sours, pastry stouts and hazy pales. Decent small can selection to take away. A recommended stop.“

“Traditional two-room pub near Sneinton Market. While it doesn't seem to be affiliated, they like Full Mash here and the three cask ales were all from this brewery. I'm not sure that the beer is in the best condition. Nice enough in its own way but can be missed in my opinion.“

“There are so many amazing pubs in Nottingham and the surrounding area that average-to-good places like this seem to pale in comparison. In many arenas, Doctors Orders wod shine, but here it's relegated to third or fourth tier. It's a lovely little set-up as a micropub on a main road, and the showcasing of sessionable cask in general (and Magpie in particular) is never a bad thing. However I miss the choice offered by the best pubs in the city: stronger beers with varying styles and dispense methods. Still, after a heady afternoon of Liquid Light and Black Iris taps (and the wonderful Kraft Werks) this is a welcome 'chill room'. One of those pubs that's not a destination but you may find yourself checking it out due to location (it's on the road between Kraft Werks and the city centre).“

“I absolutely love Black Iris bit I've never had a chance to visit their taproom until now. It's a real treat. Just opposite Shipstone Street tram station, they are an outdoors venue (including thr bar) with two sessionable cask and eight keg including some 10.5% big beers. Everything in thirds thankfully! There are also some cans but honestly I did not get that far. Really worth coming at here and can be sampled along with the nearby Lion (q.v.).“

“Big-ass pub about 3 monutes' walk from Shipstone Street Tram Station and close to the Black Iris tap (q.v.) so very convenient despite being out of the city centre. Live the piped music, some Doobie Brothers who rock and thats a hill I will die on. The Lion does a great beer range with six cask, six keg and about 15-20 cans. Some of the keg is either easily available (Thornbridge) and/or macro (Beavertown), but there's some grand stuff on there as well including Staggeringly Good and Arbor.Cans are a bit dear but the rest of the beers ain't too bad. Another great Notts pub!“

“It seems these days that most Castle Rock pubs are exceptional for beer, and the Fox & Grapes are as good as many. Its pretty bare bones and homey inside, and a little smaller than it appears to be on the outside. They do concentrate on the Castle Rock core range for their 10 cask handpulls, with a couple of local-ish guests. A few decent keg as well from big boys like Overtone and Pomona Island. A couple of interesting ciders I'd not seen before. If none of that grabs you there's a more-than-decent can fridge, although it's behind the bar so it's hard to make out everything they carry. Maybe not an absolute destination but it's in the vicinity of many other good pubs/bars, so easily introduced into a good pub crawl.“

“Kind of surprising to Come across a little micropub at this location among so many good established pubs but here it is. While it isn't very comely on the outside, it's clean, stylish and pleasant inside. Now the beer: a good mix of 4 casks, 4-5 kegs, and a beer fridge behind the bar (although there's a beer list with prices). Breweries such as Two by Two, Tyne Bank, Burnt Mill, Shiny and Purple Moose are represented. I went for a cask of a Shiny porter and it was in perfect condition. While not the most convivial of atmospheres, I could easily have a massive session here. Worth squeezing in to a pub crawl in the area.“

“Castle Rock has loads of pubs that knock it out of the park, and this is no exception. Very traditional layout when you come in, with the bar in front of you, seating to the left and more in the back. 8 casks with a fair bit of Castle Rock but also decent guests, alongside 5 kegs. They had recently had a Triple Point tap takeover, so there were still four kegs left(an IPA, two Catharinas and an imperial stout). They mentioned cans on the chalkboard but I didn't see any fridge, nor any on the back of the bar, nor a list. Still, I was happy enough with the selection on draught. It's really friendly and has the feel of a local that most city pubs fail to retain. And the prices are incredibly low.“

“Large pub which feels a bit like a US barbeque restaurant in terms of decor. Within spitting distance of Victoria shopping centre, this pub is the second in the chain. And as with the original Hockley location, the cask and keg are very much uninteresting. However there is a fridge stocked with all sorts of craft goodies from the UK and the Continent, e.g. North, Newbarns and Dugges (hence the decent selection score). Annoyingly no prices are displayed for the cans so I played it safe with a non-alcoholic beer (reasonable enough). I think the barman was surprised when I asked for a glass. Food looks like typical burgers/hot dogs/loaded fries stuff but at a reasonable prices for 2022. It's just not the sort of place I'd go for a beer, especially when considering that Nottingham has about 30 decent beer pubs. Missable although in the area you may wish to have a look at the fridge.“

“Can’t believe this was my first visit to this pub, I must have always just walked past. Visited on a sunny Friday afternoon in March 2022. Quite a long narrow pub with a small bar area and plenty of beer fridges.Really decent selection with a few Castle rock beers and plenty of other craft beer to choose. The fridges had some old (2017) Chorlton beers which I hadn’t seen for ages.“
