“Hung around Oswestry waiting for this to open, really wish they had better midweek opening hours, there was quite a few sitting out on the benches at the front, in the sunshine, by the time it did open, but I have to say, it was well worth the wait. Right outside the Market area it is quite a large, imposing building with plenty of nooks and crannies inside. The beer list is amazing for a pub in a small town, 6 hand pulls, all in operation then multiple keg offerings of all styles and from many breweries. It's a must visit pub, multi award winning and you can see why.“

“This is a rambling old pub in the centre of Oswestry, just off the market area. Proper olde world but with the addition of a few machines dotted around the pub. Small range of beers but well kept. Good atmosphere with plenty of chat. It's okay.“

“Lovely old inn, squeezed in between two larger and more modern buildings. There is a passage down the side that allows access to both bars, front and back, plus the garden, too cold for that on my visit. 4 beers on hand pull on my visit, somewhat more varied than many of the pubs in Oswestry but still nothing new for me. Well worth a look, decent opening times in here.“

“Large, single roomed pub on the edge of the centre, a traditional locals town pub. 7 Hand pumps all shiny and clean but never more than 2 in operation apparently. Little of interest on the beer front, a bit of a theme in Oswestry apart from 1 outstanding example.“

“This is a large, single roomed Wetherspoons named in honour of the War Poet who lived locally. Pretty much a standard spoons with a maze of tables and chairs making it quite difficult to maneuver around. Pleasantly quick service at the bar but unfortunately little of interest to be had on the beer front. Opens early so a good place to while away the time till other places open.“

“Oswestry's oldest surviving pub, re-opened after a long period of closure in December 2021 with a focus on good beer both trad and craft. Seems it's been spruced up somewhat and looking quite smart. Quite deceiving from the outside, looking like a cosy little locals pub, but once inside it opens up into quite a spacious place, with a large garden area with benches and a covered wooden section with booths. Beer selection is excellent, from sessionable cask, modern keg haze through to draft Belgian options and fruit sour. Some cider options, keg and box. Seems there's something for everyone, even a tidy can selection in the fridge. Just a really nice feel about this place. Dog friendly. Can see this being our regular stop in Oswestry.“

“Situated in the main market square in the centre of Oswestry. The bar area inside is fairly open plan but with 2 or 3 areas. The ceiling of the front area is covered in old pump clips. The bar had 4 or so cask mainly regional beers. The draft keg selection was more national big hitters. Also a decent selection, maybe 100 beers) in the fridges. Decent place for a fairly small town.“

“The Oak is a comely and comfortable traditional pub on the outskirts of town (although nothing is very far in Oswestry). Five casks available, all sessionable and nothing you can't get easily elsewhere, with the exception of the Three Tuns XXX which is harder to track down outside the area. The beer is in good nick and very reasonably priced. Special trip? Maybe not, but it's worth a peek if you have some time in town.“

“Wow. This place. A traditional pub that serves good beer, and lots of it. It's one of those Tardis-like pubs, where it seems small until you go through to the back and there's another room for seating. The service is friendly and knowledgeable, happy to talk you through the beers or happy to leave you to your own devices. And the beer... seven cask, all something that you'd like to drink. Neptune, Mobberley and Crewe's new outfit Tom's. There's quite a bit of keg, and there's a can/bottle fridge but to be honest I didn't get past the cask here. Almost worth building a holiday around.“

“Unexceptional pub near the town centre. A showcase for Offa's Dyke beers, but there was only one on at time of my visit. It was in good nick and insanely cheap (£2.20 for a pint), so probably worth checking what they have on. Selection rated higher than it probably should be as this will be a hard-to-get tick for most. Not really a beer pub though.“

“Visited on 27th Nov 2018. Really dissapointed to find only one cask ale from Offa's Dyke considering this is their pub. At least it was in good condition and a new rate for me. The food here is really good value and all four of us had something different and enjoyed whatever we had. Small front room with a larger lounge to the rear, raised area towards the toilets; nice old style town pub. Score is low because of only one cask beer being on.“

“27th Nov 2018. Cold and wet afternoon. Central bar serving a front and back room plus an outside area in better weather. Proper old town boozer with an ever changing cask selection. Regular in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. No 'craft' but visitors from afar should find a rate from the cask offerings.“

“Visited on a wet, cold and windy Tuesday afternoon (27th Nov 2018). Good selection of 5 interesting cask ales and about 8 keg lines. Friendly staff and owners. By far the best beer bar in Oswestry, huge Gin menu too. The food is all locally sourced and sounded really fine, but we didn't eat. They do regular Tap Takeovers and Meet The Brewer Evenings. Proper traditional pub with progressive beer lovers at the helm.“

“Probably the best bar in town for beer. Cosy pub close to the centre of town. Sixteen beers and ciders on in total, mixture of cask and keg. Range covered a variety of styles. Had a great IPA and a decent porter. Service very friendly and helpful. Didn't try any food. Prices OK. Recommended!“

“Located in the market square of Oswestry this has probably the best / widest selection in the area and further afield. 5 cask pumps and 5 keg with a number of Wild Beer bottles in the fridge. £2.70 a pint for cask which seems exceptional value, even for Shropshire. Typical pub snacks and light bites although I didn’t try anything. No music. If in the area it’s worth a visit and there’s a couple of benches outside if the weather’s nice.“

“Interesting old pub on the edge of the town centre. 4 regular beers plus 1 guest. Listed on CAMRA’s historic interiors list.“

“In the centre of the border town of Oswestry, this small Wetherspoon pub has a modern exterior and a modern appeal to its traditional wooden interior design and furniture. There’s two rows of ales at the bar and a rear patio area that appeals if the weather allows. There is a fireplace on platform area to the rear.“
