Val-U Liquors (Beer Store)
3023 HIGHLAND POINTE DR. SUITE 101
“6 packs can now be broken up to where you can buy singles. Just ask the staff before doing so as a courtesy. Staff is very helpful and friendly for the most part. One of the biggest selections in Owensboro and the biggest on Hwy 54. Competitive pricing too.“

“Pretty standard liquor store out on the south side of Owensboro. Not many singles, though they do have a big selection of bombers and 6-packs. You’ll find some stuff you won’t see other places, but some stuff may have some age issues. Not an essential stop, but if you are on the south side in need of a beer, this is the spot.“

“Great addition to the burgeoning downtown scene. 32 taps with tons of bottles. Feels a bit pricier than other places downtown, but service is amazing and beer selection is different than the surrounding bars. Some beers hang around on tap for awhile, but for a city this size it’s pretty normal. Pizzas are great, other foods are not at the same level though. Bottles/cans can be purchased to go, but at in-store drinking price which is a bummer. But other than that, a welcome addition. For a mellow mushroom this the taplist is ridiculous honestly.“

Discount Liquors (Beer Store)

“This place is interesting. They have a ton of craft beer, however a lot of it is a year old. They do have fresh things as well, but you just have to check the labels or know the release schedule for stuff to know if it is fresh or not...especially w/r/t hoppy stuff. It’s great for imperial stouts and bigger beers, but just check the labels. Staff probably don’t know much about craft beer at all but are friendly.“

“New spot that just opened up in the center of town just off of JR Miller Blvd. Decent selection of bottles and 6 and 4 packs. Most beers are priced individually and as 6/4packs. Prices are average and selection will get better according to the owner moving forward. Will visit again in a few months to see how progress is coming along.“

West Side Spirits (Beer Store)
3739 WEST 2ND STREET
“One of the best bottle/can shops in Owensboro. Great selection of craft beer from all the distributors in Kentucky. Some stuff you don’t see other places. The best thing about West Side is that all of the 6 pack and 4 pack beers are individually priced so you can pull bottles from anywhere (although most everything is in the fridge). The have 4-5 cooler doors of craft beer (mostly singles) and a lot of stock six packs (cooled in the beer cave and on the shelf). Staff and friendly and helpful. They have a pretty good selection of bombers as well.“

“2017 re-rate: J’s has a very good selection of six-packs and 4-packs and solid selection of bombers as well. 16 taps of quality on tap with high turnover, which means fresh kegs almost every other day. They get a pretty fair share of specialty and seasonal kegs as well as in bottles. Decent selection of singles with 3 doors dedicated to mixed 6 packs. My only complaint still is not being able to make six-packs from anything in the store, so often times the mixed six-pack bottles will be older stuff that didn’t sell or just regular stuff you see other places. With that being said, overall solid taplist and decent selection of bottles.“

“This is the kind of place that is giving some effort to the craft beer scene but is reluctant to really jump in. They have some DFH, Stone, Hoppin Frog, etc. They have many commonly seen on the craft scene. I did manage to pick up a few bottles. On the down side: It isn’t the cleanest place in the world and not well organized. They won’t let you break a pack to buy a single and the staff is not very well informed. Plus: It is one of those hidden gems in the middle of a craft beer barren zone. You may find something here that is different but I find it comforting that they at least provide the basics here. They also offer a selection of tap beers for growler take out. I rated it on food because it offers some nice cheese and crackers. “
