72 /100 6506 114TH AVE CT E Stopped by on a Thursday right after hitting Cockrell Ciders (literally a block away). It is in a neighborhood as it is in some dude's garage ... but lots of space built out next to the garage. Bar was full with locals. Flights available. Interesting setup ... from a homebrewer in his garage to a commercial place ... is that a 5 for Ambiance or a 1. |
78 /100 6613 114TH AVE CT E Stopped by on a Thursday afternoon and it was pretty packed with locals. Located almost in a neighborhood. No pets, but they had a few of their dogs walking around enjoying being petted. Enjoyed the location and nice day to sit on their deck. |
58 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Stopped by on a Thursday mid-afternoon. Small bar area was pretty busy with locals. Mixed vibe / looking inside ... kind of diner'ish and diner type menu with powerhouse / substation decor. Ordered a Rueben ... lots of bread and the cheese was not melted, kind of what I expected. Beers below average too ... |
72 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Showed up around 7:00 on a Saturday, bit of a wait - clearly a popular place. Food was well done, beer was solid. Best of the bunch was actually a superb hazy IPA. Really good Belgian too. Other stuff was undistinguished and nothing else jumped out on the menu, but these guys are at least competent.
Worth a stop if you wanted something on the way to Rainier. |
66 /100 Tacoma Boys South Hill (Grocery Store) 901 39TH AVE SW Was suggested this place from one of my military buddies, so I took that with a grain of salt. They actually had a great selection of beers and several recently released. Price points on some stuff was steep and others were low. It’s a grocery so not so many things to say, but in a pinch this is great avenue to get good beer. |
98 /100 Rainier Growlers (Bar) 13105 MERIDIAN AVE E #107 The South Hill area really needed something like this. 40 taps and occasional special bottles as well. Limited food options, but they do allow you to bring your own, so only a minor deduction there. Regular events tend to feature some of the rarest goodies available (even by Seattle standards). |
70 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Visited on 7th November 2014 with T Bois and FLBH. Thanks to Ferris for providing the wheels in the Mystery Machine. Looks like a coverted power station (hence the name!) with neon lights on the outside and plenty of power themed items inside. 10 beers on tap but typical of a local US brewhouse with all the styles that either don’t really exist, Scotch Ale, plus the usual suspects. Beer was OK without breaking the world but was offerred in tasters.
A decent enough local place. Now I’ve had the beers I wouldn’t make an effort to go back. |
72 /100 103 35TH AVE SE Vibe/ Ambiance: ok
Quality:
Service: Service was not that good, probably because we came in as a big group
Selection: not a wide selection
Ok for office related functions but not a good place to get beer
|
70 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Enjoyed dinner a couple pints after watching the US Open at Chambers Bay. Close to the state fairgrounds, a renovated BP with the powerhouse theme. Sort of smallish, but decent space and we had a little privacy in the booth. Dinner was great, had the fire pasta, and three of the dozen or so beers on tap. Service was better than most other places on this trip. |
68 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Visited on Friday evening, 7th November ’14 at around 6.30pm, thanks to Ferris for the wheels.
Medium sized venue, I’m guessing an old power station/room? There is a lot of play on the ’power’ theme with big electric switches on the walls and insulators making table legs etc.
10 beers on tap, all house brews, plus a cider. So so beers, usual generic choices, scotch, pumpkin and a few hoppies, stout, porter. My average beer score came out at 3.18, we couldn’t bo bothered to tick 3 of them.
Tasters available, $6 for 5 so pretty decent vfm in my book - 4oz pours. You could also get 8oz pours on all beers.
Bottle list ran to twenty or so with some solid choices, whats not to like about a venue where you can kick back with a bottle of Speedway!
Service was adequate, the place was pretty busy as well, we hit the evening diner prime time spot. We couldn’t find a seat and stood along a rail with a small table ledge just in front of the bar, although we felt a little in the way.
More of a mom and pop eatery brew pub than one that is ever going to gain a reputation for good beer but worth stopping by if in the area. |
68 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Odd and a little intimidating from the outside, but inside quite a nice bustling place filled with themed articles from the power industry. Jammed to the gills, this is the hot spot in town and primarily for food. Bar is tiny and beer doesn’t seem to be a big focus. Good too because beer is pretty average at best. We couldn’t sit so didn’t eat and they do have a tasting flight. Lots of ticks, but really not that great. |
78 /100 103 35TH AVE SE Cool place, we go here every once and a while and i even worked for them way back. as a homebrewer I can say that the beers are ok a step above what you would expect walking in and the food is not half-bad. if you are looking for a night out with the wife and kids and would like to try a few new beers give this one a shot, just don’t expect anything to blow your mind. |
76 /100 211 W STEWART AVE The Station U-Brew is an up and coming BOP (brew on premise) a place where anyone can come in and brew a beer to their liking or hang out in the taproom and sample the selection of beers on tap |
74 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Many visits over the past five years, I always enjoy the Powerhouse. The decor is really fun in the ’electric company’ theme and there is always a good crowd. The bar could be bigger and roomier: be prepared to make friends with the person next to you. Having said that, the bar is the place to be if you want to talk beer and get quick service. Service can be slower at the tables and occasional errors crop up amongst the very cute wait staff - life is a compromise. Selection is limited to seven regulars, three seasonals, a brewed root beer and one guest handle, latterly a sour. But all are tasty examples of a wide variety of styles and the brewer is almost always around for chats. Tours are offerred by appointment. Food is good: better than pub food but short of gastropub levels. Fairly dear for Puyallup, but well worth it and the beer to go in 2L soda bottles is a bargain (the medicine bottles are cool, but not at all a bargain). Parking is limited in the lot, but there is heaps of space across the tracks. A bit off the beaten track, but worth the effort. |
72 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Cool decor, scattered flat screens for sports viewing, though you won’t get any volume as the place is oriented towards socialising, food and beer. Nice selection of PH brews and usually a guest tap or two. Growlers and medicine bottles to go. Some staff are very knowledgeable about beer, others less so. Sit at the bar if you want to talk beer, though things are invariably busy there. Food is very good, well above average for a pub. One of my favorite spots in the PNW, though a bit out of the way. |
72 /100 103 35TH AVE SE Same as all the other Ram’s. Pretty good. |
80 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Cool place . A little upscale. Good stuff though. |
64 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Nice brick interior. Weird theme with the powerhouse, but it somehow works. Servers are nice but not that knowledgeable about the beer. The food ain’t bad and not that pricey. The beer is slightly above average. I’d comeback more often if they would be open past 10 pm on a Friday night. |
62 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Beers are not too cold here, which is a plus. The electricity theme is interesting - includes voltage warning signs in the bathrooms. Trains are definitely running nearby. Suggestion: eat food somewhere else before or after for better value and product. |
74 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Great place for lunch and a brew |
78 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET This place gets max points for ambiance, a cool old powerhouse building beautifully redone with hardwood floors and comfortable seating arrangements. The beer selection was impressive, a lot of seasonal taps and standards, it was really tough having to try them all but someone had to do it. The food though was average at best. A french dip sandwich was mediocre and reminiscent of something you’d find wrapped up in foil and served with a styrofoam cup of jus. Not bad, just not special. The real secret here are the seasonals on tap. Go there at least once to try them. I’d love to go back and give it another go, it seems like since the last time I visited they’ve updated their menu. |
74 /100 103 35TH AVE SE Very simular to an ESPN Zone for sports...as far as food; Applebee’s. Service is friendly and fast. What separates this place from your usual run of the mill chain restaurants is the House Brew selection. Come ready to eat watch your favorite team and drink some excellant house brew... |
70 /100 103 35TH AVE SE This was a Ram Big Horn. Once you have been to one you have been to most of them. They do differ that they tend to be much localized with there sports and keep the local high school memorabilia all around as decor. We just had a great day at NW Trek and it was time for some food and beverages. Hey this was close and I needed to tick this off my list so it was off to the Ram Big Horn Brewing of Puyallup. The beers where consistent and tasty and I got to try a new Dubbel Ewe (Belgian Double) it was a strong 9% Belgian that was tasty and had some kick if your not ready for it. Service was good and the server gave me her best beer spiel and did a good job with her descriptions. We had a nice time and if you’re in Puyallup and need some good pub food and some cold brews here is a stop for you. |
60 /100 103 35TH AVE SE One of a few beer places in Puyallup. This one has the same Ram corporate ambiance as the rest of the chain. Ram does a pretty good job with several of their beers, they do a stellar job with none. Kinda surprised me that that our server dissed one of the beers in the sampler because it came from their Northgate location. Actually, it was one of their better offerings. |
56 /100 103 35TH AVE SE Visited here many times when friends had a house up on South Hill in Puyallup. They do, ahem, a nice job of maintaining consistency from location to location: they almost all feel exactly the same. This one, of the ones I’ve visited, feels the most like it was put together only with pieces from the pre-fab kit. Nice kids working the floor, ok burgers, plenty of tvs, alright beers of their own (but no one else’s). Won’t kill you to stop in, but worth a miss. |
74 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Awesome historical reclamation to get the structure converted to a brewhouse. I really dig that, as I’ve said probably a million times in place ratings by now. You can feel the trains rumbling by at times. Clean, well-lit, friendly, well-organized. The food is solid. They only have one faucet pouring anything other than their own beers, but it was Festina Peche, which was pretty cool. Granted, it’s October and the beer doesn’t really belong, but at least they’re pushing crisp weisses on the citizens of this rather bucolic valley and seeing what happens. If that’s not a sign of beer love, it’s at least mischievous. The beers show promise, if not greatness yet. I’ll be back. |
82 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Cool place, looks like an old firehouse or an electrical building judging by the name. All the tap handles have converters on them which is a nice touch. All brick facade with wood floors and a very clean stainless steel bar. 2 levels with a patio. Good service and very easy to find from the freeway. |
80 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Had a great time we just signed for our home decided to stop by. The beers where great. Over the top with the brews and there trying to make something great. The food and services was also very good. The server tried to talk beer did a good job and was trying with all her heart. The place was an old Electric company so it was to style and cool looking. Watch for the trains they will make noise and add to your experience. This was a great time and I will be back for sure the beers are just that good. I will take a medicine bottle next time home full of 32oz of sweet beer. |
76 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Nice find on a detour through Puyallup. Definitely liked the selection, and the atmosphere was killer with all the old electrical stuff on the walls, including the static arc that kept scaring the shit out of my wife. Pizza was great, sevice was decent, will try again soon. |
50 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Hard to find, I guess trimming the trees in front of the sign is too much work. Ordered an IPA, was handed a Wheat. Is IPA too long of a word for a waitress to remember? The IPA was good, my wife had the samplers, she thought the Ales & Lager were whippy. Tried the Overload Pizza based on the last review, great menu idea but the 12" pizza was way too small. They don’t tell you on the menu that they are only the size of a dinner plate. On a positive note, whoever decorated this place did a first class job with the electric insulators. |
88 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET I am biased since this is my local hangout. Whenever a train passes by on the tracks next to the building a Jacob’s ladder is triggered. The building is a former railroad power station, and the decor reflects that. I have always had great service. There is a core of six or seven staple ales on tap, with an additional rotation of four or five seasonals, all brewed in-house. The 4-Alarm Oatmeal Stout, Amperage Amber, and Saison all highly recommended. Food is pub fare, with a somewhat small menu selection that is compensated for in quality. The Overload Pizza and Fish Tacos are highly recommended. The wife is fond of their Portobello Mushroom Sandwich. |
82 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Review based on over a dozen visits 2002-2004. One of my favorite brewpubs. Parking lot a little small, park on the other side of the train tracks if you have to. Very cool decreations with plants and electric items. Small bar only seats about 6 people, but worth going when they aren’t busy to get a seat at it. Family friendly seating. The upstairs area seems only to be open at busy times. Food is very good, anything on the menu I would trust. Pay attention to the chalk board on your right when you first enter for food specials. Some often unique beers, including Wit and Coffee Porters. Good details on the beers presented on chalkboard behind bar. Great place, worth a visit. negative: Not a great place to just hang out. Pretty much active eating and drinking is the environment. |
84 /100 454 E. MAIN STREET Very cool place, comfortable and inviting. Nice brick and neat electric-themed paraphernalia. I especially liked the arcing "Frankenstein" thingie. Much more tasteful than a fern bar. Good service, Excellent food with a capital E. The customers are just as friendly as the waitstaff. A dozen brews on tap (one was rootbeer), brewed onsite or at sister brewpub Enginre House #9. All the beers were good, if slightly sweet and underhopped. I could live there. |
60 /100 103 35TH AVE SE When you are stuck out in the burbs visiting the in-laws this is like an oasis of relief. Beer is decent and food is decent. Fairly standard bar setting. Big open restuarant and bar with lots of space to hang out. Basically average, but if you are stuck in Puyallup it is a great place to go
