“We visited here Saturday 25th January 2020 shortly after Restaurant Janos. As mentioned in that review we were stopping at Campingplätz Ortherhof which is just a few kilometres up the road, on the outside of town, not far from the Rauschberg Cable Car. We walked into town via a lovely walk along the river. I suspect that it was extremely busy in this town the last week owing to the World Biathlon Championships (Cross Country Skiing and Shooting) we had seen this on a TV in the Sports Club in the village hence the only reason we knew about the town, anyway I am digressing. This was a beautiful looking building, really traditional and very centrally located. We entered and sat in what was a more café style area at the front to the right as you view from the outside. I suspect that there is a more traditional restaurant area on the other side but we didn't explore. This place was quite popular with people popping in for a coffee and cake or just a beer like we had. The surroundings were quite traditional, but despite the age of the building this area seemed quite light and whilst wood everywhere not dark or so traditional, this applied to staff who were very friendly and weren't wearing traditional clothing, perhaps later they might when the restaurant starts. I had a Dunkel and Loz a Hefe-Weisse, both good and very reasonably priced. It was very popular for cakes here. “

“We visited here Saturday 25th January 2020, we were stopping at Campingplätz Ortherhof just a few kilometres up the road, we walked here via a lovely walk along the river. I suspect that it was extremely busy in this town the last week owing to the World Biathlon Championships (Cross Country Skiing and Shooting) we had seen this on a TV in the Sports Club in the village hence the only reason we knew about the town, anyway I am digressing. Restaurant Janos is quite central and typically but not overtly Bavarian. You enter via a door on the left at the front with a narrow corridor with seating ahead of you, the main room and bar is on the right. There was a large family gathering on our visit they had a very long table. The room doglegs off to the side with a bar here, further seating including high chairs and stools (we sat here) and the toilets and kitchen were off to the left hand side of the bar. The barman did everything other than cook the food, however whilst this is a restaurant it also has a pub/bar feeling to it, in fact I am 100% confident that if we'd have wanted just a beer this would not have been an issue. I had Hungarian Ghoulash Soup and Loz had Cream of Garlic both were great. The beers were very good, I had the Dunkel Weisse Loz the Hefe-Weiss, they had three beers on tap and a number of bottles, it was good beer and reasonably priced. I liked this place, only downside was the family were a little noisy but they were having a great time.“

“Filled my crate during my visit to Ruhpolding. Many local beers next to the usual suspects. Even an occasional German imperial stout. Most beers cost less than a euro. Recommended when in the area.“
