62 /100 Ourglass Wine Co. (Beer Store) 124 BROADWAY, ROUTE ONE NORTH When I was here, though mainly a wine shop, I did find some Ommegang, Allagash, Unibroue, some of the high end Flying Dog and some Maine Beer Company, maybe not a vast selection but not a bad stop if you’re in the area, the other two reviews here make think they might have worked or work for this place, so I wouldn’t make it a priority to seek this place out, in other words. |
92 /100 Ourglass Wine Co. (Beer Store) 124 BROADWAY, ROUTE ONE NORTH Although wine is main focus of this store, they still have a great, diverse selection of beer. From local brews and imports to rare trappist ales, Ourglass has a wide variety to choose from. The staff are all very knowledgeable on the subject of wine, but you can tell they love their beer too. They also are open to suggestions and will special order anything you are looking for. I was excited to see them carrying Ommegang Beer from Cooperstown NY. The North Shore now has a great place to buy beer! |
80 /100 Ourglass Wine Co. (Beer Store) 124 BROADWAY, ROUTE ONE NORTH I was very happy to hear that a gourmet shop was opening up on the north shore, and so far this place does not disappoint. It is right on Route 1 North, in the plaza next to Orzo restaurant. Ample parking in front. Clean and organized interior with friendly staff. As you can expect from the name of the store, it focuses on wine. From what I can tell, it does that very well, and also has some cheeses, glasses, liquors, and chocolates. The beer is in the back. The section is not huge, but they do a good job with it. An even mix of locals, regionals, national brands, and imports. Everything is kept cool and I have yet to find anything past its code. Prices are pretty good, with quality beers mostly running $7.99 to $9.99 for a six-pack. They are missing some things that I think they could use (Stone, Rogue, St. Bernardus, etc.) but so far they have had enough interesting things to keep me happy. The staff knows a decent amount about beer, but it is obvious that wine is their specialty. So although beer plays second fiddle here, it is still done well. It is nice to finally have a good specialty shop to buy some good beer at on the north shore. |
