“A modern beer cafe with a cozy pub vibe straight out of the UK or Belgium. Handpicked craft selection includes a mix of unusual imports and rare stuff from Scratch, local Springfield breweries like Hand of Fate and Anvil & Forge, and more from abroad. Lots of dark wood and exposed brick, classic beer hall vibe. Framed posters and antiques on the walls, vintage woodwork in the front with old school shop windows displaying vintage breweriana and cafe decor. Bar on the right, with seating for 6 or so. Tables on the left, and more open lounge-style seating in another room off to the right. Digital draft menus above the bar list beer styles, abv, and keg volume levels. Relaxed atmosphere, again it's more of a chill beer cafe than a loud bar, lending to a more laid-back and mature vibe. Selection was varied and eclectic, always a handpicked selection for beer geeks and novice-friendly too. Recent arrivals from De Garde, Cantillon, Pohjala, Dovetail, Goldfinger, and more. Draft highlights on my last visit: Tipopils, Oerbier, Ayinger Pils, Scratch Elderberry, Sycamore, & Red Cedar, Eagle Park Demon Haze, Phase Three, Is/Was, Other Half, Rhinegeist English Mild, Saison DˆErpe-Mere, St. Bernardus Wit. 24 drafts, all killer no filler. All kinds of interesting beers available for carry out as well, everything is available as singles.“

“Fantastic food in a great location with tasty beer (OK, I had only one, but it was very tasty). Obed and Isaac's was very full for a Sunday evening, but we got a table in the home portion of the establishment, had two great sandwiches and two drinks for 40 bucks (pretty good value for these days). Waiter was amusing and helpful, and the surrounding patrons were simply amusing. Lots of folks were packed into the tavern section, which has a nice whiskey selection, an attractive variety of craft cocktails (we tried one made with Illinois gin) and 11 of their own microbrews. Well worth the visit.“

Binny's Springfield (Beer Store)
2490 W. WABASH AVE.
“Stopped by a few weeks ago. Had to get out of town after a major car accident and I ended up here. Needed some ticks, obv. Typical Binny's. Big, good selection. Large BYO 6 pack selection with lots of local beers... exactly what I was looking for. Prices were all over the place, some very reasonable and some astronomical. A few rarities. Worth a stop when in Springfield.“

“Really cool brewpub in downtown Springfield. In a historic building I believe. Right next to the Abraham Lincoln house. There is indoor and outdoor seating. TVs inside. They had 8-10 taps. Some interesting beers including a Neopolitan beer which really tasted like neopolitan ice cream! Food menu included sandwiches, wraps, burgers. I had the Asian crunch wrap, which was quite good. Great place to stop for beer and food!“

“In the historic district building in Springfield IL. A modern industrial feel with large marble slate bar top. Busy inside, younger hipsters. Stout and Porter were decent.“

“Next to historic Springfield, IL. in a converted 19th Century mansion. Bar area next to restaurant we ate at the bar. The "Horseshoe"sandwich a favorite of the city. Yum. Our Beers were very good, the Brown ale was great. Staff was nice. Cozy feel at home place.“

“Hmm, i had a somewhat different experience here than the other raters had. I found the ambience to be very sterile and corporate "chain" feeling. Beer was sub-par from the samples i had. Food was ok but nothing to write home about. i may revisit this place again in a few weeks but when i was there in September 2017, it was pretty lackluster. Staff didnt seem to know anything about the beer they had on tap.“

“I didnt know that they opened a new location about 2 miles down the road from the old one. The staff was very helpful and told me all the things i can get there compared to further south in Illinois. They have basically all the Pipeworks brews you can imagine and this IS the furthest south you can get them in IL. Layout is similar to most others of this chain. Great store overall.“

“This place excels at ambiance however, the other atributes are not quite as good. Beer has improved from a few years ago. Some nice modern tasting ales were had during my visit in October 2017. The outside sitting area is unique and fun. Inside, its an old house with multiple rooms and very cool/historic vibe. Food was decent-had some Chicken kabobs from the outside grill. Service was decent considering how busy they were on a saturday night. I would go back to this place.“

“Great food, good beer, I wish they would mix up the beers a little more often, and give them more distinct names but always enjoy going when in town.“

“Huge slick looking space right off the highway in Springfield. Very clean, lots of wood, plenty of room to sit at the bar, in a booth or at a table. Bartender was extremely nice and attentive even though she was also the hostess. Food and drinks came out fast. They were really glad we came in. They had about 8 of their beers on tap, a few realy good guest taps and a full bar and wine. I tried a 4 beer sampler for $5, I liked two of their beers, 1 was ok, 1 wasn’t good. The food was really good, better than you would expect at a brewery. Good value when you order off he lunch menu (meals for $7), if you order off the regular menu it can be pricey. This was a good place. I want to see them succeed.“

“Stopped in for lunch and to try their beer. Limited selection of beers that apparently always changes. When I was there in April the beer selection was mostly IPAs and no stouts or porters. Had a Belgian style tripel that, to me, was really more like a dubbel given its dark color and high ABV. It was also hoppier than I expected, but still a decent beer and quite tasty. Had a veggie burger that was very good, although the side of cole slaw was rather bland. Service was good. Will definitely consider going back the next time I’m in that area.“

“Went to visit a friend in Illinois and he recommended this place. On a Saturday before St Paddy’s day, this is an exceptionally happening place. The service was exceptionally quick with the amount of people in there and the three beers I had seemed to be priced right. All were true to style, though the hefeweizen wasn’t poured into a weizen glass. This company still pulled it off. Nicely done, I know I would go back.“

“Stopped in today for the second time. The first time we brought our dog and this is a very dog friendly establishment. They proved that to be fact. This is a very old house that is just around the corner from Lincoln’s house. It is a cool old place and if you look you can find some of the subtleties of the old original structure. The beers I have had have been solid if unremarkable. Today was a stout that I am pretty sure was on nitro. Also had a Frothbite. Again, solid if not great. Food has been good both times. This is a place that my wife does not mind going to because of the food. They also have a pretty full bar and wine. No other beers are available.“

“What a great surprise pop-up visit, for a nice lunch with Mom and Dad on a Wednesday in August. This place is set within a couple cool historic houses right in downtown Springfield. Pretty small inside, but lots of space outside. The service was OK, but the beers ranged from average at the rare low end, to quite good and original. And the food was very, very good. Overall a great stop and highly recommended. (Brewery #620)“

“Stopped in on a weekday afternoon. Lot of folks eating lunch, which the menu had a wide selection of food. Something for everyone. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was on top of things. She explained all their beers, where the brewery was located and the process they were going through to add an outdoor beer garden. Construction was going on while we were there. The selection of beers, about 11, were decent. Tried a couple of their flights, and not a bad beer on either one. Will definitely stop in again and hope to check out their beer garden.“

“Superb place in Springfield to have a couple of beers with friends or a great tasty dinner with a group. Historic house moved to this location to preserve Springfield architectural history. Usually 10-14 self brewed beers on tap. Pulled pork special is the best item on menu along with pizza’s.“

“Nice place in downtown Springfield, a stone’s throw from the capitol building and right next door to the Lincoln home national historic site. Brewpub seems to be 3 or 4 connected buildings. Cozy atmosphere with a lot of wood and original brickwork. Decent sized patio out front where you can eat and drink in the warm weather. They had a dozen different house beers on tap, many of which were special small batch offerings. Very reasonably priced - four 5-oz samplers were $6; pints were around $4.25. Beer was hit or miss, but all of it showed great potential. Food was good and also reasonably priced - we ordered two flatbread pizzas made with spent grain that were very tasty. Serving staff was very friendly and understanding (I was there with the wife and my 3-year old and infant sons.) I’ll definitely come back whenever I’m in the area.“

“Way cute place in downtown Springfield. Located in a historic house, still with what seems like original brick walls and everything. 8 of their own beers on tap plus 3 guest taps. First beer I have here is very good - Mother Road APA. Look forward to more. Also just ordered the leg of lamb sandwich, sounds good! Definitely a great little local place if you are in town. I believe it's the only microbrew pub around here.“

“Cute little definite local bar. Fair beer section. Maybe 10 taps plus a bunch of bottles. Lots of basic macros but also a few decent selections available - Lagunitas, Deschutes, Schlafly just to name a few. Food wise it's just frozen pizza for $10 and free popcorn“

“Connected building in downtown Springfield. Didn’t see the whole thing. Lots of wood. Server was friendly, didn’t describe beers well (too basic - perhaps she was used to customers who didn’t understand beer?) Food I had was good. Had about 10 of their beers available, wide variety of styles.“

“Impressed with my initial visit to the brewpub. Good quality beer. Very ambitious food menu with interesting items. Offers multiple pour sizes (5oz,10oz,pint). Located in a beautifully refurbished mansion near center of town. Worth a visit if you are in Springfield. Town was overdue for a good brewpub. Guest taps when I was there were not that interesting but have read that they often feature other quality Illinois breweries.“

“Prices are cheaper than Friar Tuck and they were the only place I have found to have Rolling Meadows bombers. Nice selection of Founders, Bells, Stone, New Belgium, and Dark Horse. Not nearly the selection of Friar Tuck and store is kind of dirty and cluttered and is likely to have some old beer so I would check dates. Service was lacking as well.“

“(Visited 05/2010): The Barrelhead, which bills itself as the "Home of 50 Taps" is located on Wabash on the southwest side of Springfield. There is a small lot next to the building and other parking nearby. The interior is decked out more or less like a sports bar, with a very large collection of breweriana that is mirror-related. The bar is directly in the center and there is table seating on either side. The bar offers a view of the taps as well as the beers in coolers. Barrelhead indeed has 50 taps, and it looked like one or two may were kicked. A few notable brewers represented are Schlafly (including the Coffee Stout), New Belgium, Goose Island, Bell’s, Rogue, Boulevard, Leinenkugel and others. They have a few imports on draught such as Spaten, Kostritzer and Hoegaarden as well. The bottle list is about the same size with many of the same brewers. Service on a weekday late afternoon was decent. The bartender helped me review the beer list and was able to talk shop a bit about the beers. The food at Barrelhead is essentially pub grub, and the fried fish and fries I had was decent. Overall this is a pretty good spot to get some regional craft beers..“

“this local hangout is proud to feature 50 beers on tap, but seemingly could care less what those beers are. the taps are are arranged as a compact square of tiny tap handles, surrounded by a nice big bar. they small handles made it hard to make out what beers they had to offer, their beer list was a half sheet of paper offering nothing but the name of the beers they had. (no descripton or even mention of style.) they have glass door coolers on either side of the taps, but without a proper beer menu to be found i was left squinting at those as well. i enjoyed an optimator and a goose island matilda served in a frosty shaker. the food looked good (big portions), but i was on a liquid diet.“

“This store has one aisle of imports and micros along the east wall, with mainly macros in the coolers in the back of the store. They have a decent, but average selection. A very small Belgian selection, a few German imports and a good U.K. beer section. They also have a few imports from around the world and your usual Mexican imports. A decent micro selection with the best being offerings from Three Floyds and Two Brothers. Staff is friendly, but not beer knowledgable. Famous does have sales, but it’s mainly on wine, spirits and macro products. When heading east on Wabash, from White Oaks Mall, located on the right with sign visible from the street. They use to have a big pink elephant holding a martini glass in front of the store, but I’m afraid that is long gone. Too bad, it made the store easy to find.“

“This bar is located in downtown Springfield, near many tourists sites like the Dana House (Frank Lloyd Wright) and the Lincoln Library. It is also near many state government offices and is popular with professionals and state employees. It is a long and narrow space and you need to pay attention to find it because it is easy to pass by on East Washington. The atmosphere is a bit dark and causal and every time I’ve been here the service from the bartenders and the wait staff has been friendly and efficient. Check out the bar menu and ask what they have in particular style and what’s new. Once in awhile they will have something interesting on tap, on a recent visit they had Piraat, but most likely you will be ordering from the bottles. The food is average and they can shut down the kitchen early, but they usually have some kind of bar snacks during happy hour. “
