“Creaky looking old pub, claiming to be the oldest in this historic city and is suitably atmospheric and cosy in its small reception area and bar with seating around a fireplace on the opposite side wall. Local cask, local bottles and keg are available along with a spillover room in the rear which is an arched brick cellar of sorts with a DJ table.“

“Slightly rotund corner bar packing in the tables as a Greene King food pub and they are supplying the beers - so the selection is a bit limited. It's a nice enough place though.“

“Built into the city walls as you might imagine from the name, it's quite an atmospheric place and an attractive one to walk up and into. It's a little disappointing inside though, a chain-like sports bar serving standard filling pub grub and a whole host of macro keg beers from its long bar against the back wall. It's not looking for a craft beer crowd.“

“Corner pub on the main local road running north-south through the town centre. Painted bright warm red colours on the inside with interesting historical stuff and a hell of a lot of whisky boxes on the walls, the action centres around a square bar against the back wall so service is on three sides. Popular, the place itself is more interesting than the beers it serves, with an old fireplace still giving off heat. Some local bottled ciders are available though with a hefty mark-up.“

“Square roomed Brewdog just along from the Wetherspoon pub. Reminds me very much of the original Manchester Brewdog being of similar size and design, also with its bar along the right hand wall after you enter. Found a local guest cask available in here.“

48 /100 CASTLE WYND,
“Last pub before the castle on top of the hill - does well from tourists and is certainly an option for dining in as it's more of a food venue than a beer destination, and it has a very lovely room for this purpose. The bar occupies the length of the side wall opposite to its rear entrance, which is where its enclosed courtyard garden area is too. Does a good line in whisky and operates as a hotel too.“

“Over two levels, as the pub is on a hill both have a ground floor entrance, with the upper area also having a small front terrace. Fairly regular in design with the usual set of drinks - its national beer festival was on during my visit but local cask is possibly available at other times. Lots of students in during the evening.“

“Visited August 2023, Typical Brewdog Bar. Located in the city centre with lot of space for eat and big tables. Good selection with 4 guest ales. Beer was served in good condition and service was good. Dead ambiance, just another 2 clients. Next one please!“

“Nice bar, with a wide selection of beers, from Brewdog itself and more. Nice atmosphere too. Overall, a nice place where to have good beer and spend some time!“

“Fairly non descript bar in the town centre, food is the main focus here. A couple of weak pale ales on cask, none of which appealed to me. Settled for a bottle of Kopparberg and then went to the spoons across the road. Not for me in all honesty.“

“Foodie looking place across the road from the Spoons, which may gbe why the prices weren't bad. 5 cask lines, 4 on when I visited with a couple of Balhaven and 2 guests.“

“Smallish Spoons, smaller cask range than usual. Service wasn't bad, although it looked well understaffed.“

“Easily the most run down and grotty looking Brewdog I've been in. Same range as expected, seemed to be less guest beers than elsewhere. Seemed to be filled with diners and not really drinkers.“

30 /100 6 THE BACK WALK
“City Walls is a pub located in a fantastic location in Stirling, covered by vintage looking walls and placed in a quite calm and quiet place. This is a major advantage of this place, because if I would try to describe that pub by using two words, I would say: wasted potential. Apparently the owners of this place never heard about something that is called “craft beer”, but they are also not so much attached to real ales. So the majority of customers here are drinking Peroni international lager, that is probably the cheapest beer here, and they charge whole 4 pounds for it (while in nearby Wetherspoon you can grab a can of Sixpoint IPA for 2 pounds, or a pint of local craft beer for 2-3 pounds). Probably the only beer that is somehow close to craft beer, is the Brewdog Punk IPA, but other than that, you cannot find there anything interesting. When I asked the service if they have a plan to implement just a few craft beers in the future, lady from the bar said: “But why, for whom? We have Greene King IPA and one beer from Brewdog, isn't it enough?”. Well maybe if you are a fan of Peroni, or overpriced Belhaven, you can find something that suits you well. I used to like coming here with friends, but every single time I unfortunately have nothing interesting to drink here, so we used to change pub pretty fast.“

“Ein schöne Bar mit einer kleine feine Auswahl von lokalen Biersorten. Leider nur britische Standard-Bierstile am Zapfhahn. Für besondere Sachen findet man als Flasche/Dose aber im Kühlschrank. Schöner Ort um Abends zu entspannen.“

“A fairly typical Brewdog bar, around 10 mins walk from Stirling railway station. Around 10 Brewdog beers on with a few guest options. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Didn’t eat.“

“Really not worth the walk! Single cask available, some kegs too I imagine but I wasn’t paying attention. Friend was sworn at for taking too long to decide what he’d like, avoid.“

“Cosy pub with a larger back room that apparently hosts folk bands or something. Only 3 casks as I recall with a number of less exciting kegs.“

“Stirlings Whsiky Bar hat auch einige lokale Biere am Zapfhahn. Mandy, die Besitzerin sorgt sich liebevoll, so das sich jeder wie zu Hause fühlt. Für mich ein Pflichtbesuch wenn ich dort bin.“

48 /100 8 SPITTAL STREET,
“Ah, maybe I only saw half of this. In any case, the bit I was in was quite small, quite quiet and had only a couple of active handpulls. Very grumpy attractive barmaid too, although she did cheer up slightly by the end. Average. Next door to Brewdog. Scotland is great.“

“At the time of my visit, this location had about 10 Brewdog beers on tap as well as 4-5 as part of a "tap takeover" by Fyne Brewing. Excellent service but a couple of negatives: (1) no rare beers on tap, and (2) no food as the kitchen was out of order. I certainly prefer the locations in Dundee and Aberdeen.“

“Large JDW, spreading on more than one level. Also two entrances, we’ve stayed in part looking at the Baker Street which had 6 hand pumps, not all of them were on. Looking at the pictures seems that other part looking at the Spittal street has 11 more hand pumps. Usual stuff in the fridge, some Brewdog, some Sixpoint, Brooklyn Lager. Just an average JDW.“

“A new BrewDog Bar. Typical BrewDog features friendly enthusiastic knowledgeable staff. Good selection of BrewDog and Guest Beers. Food menu looked OK. Now there is somewhere good for beer in Stirling.“

64 /100 CASTLE WYND,
“A nice hotel bar, the last place to eat and drink before Stirling Castle. The lounge bar has a calm ambience. According to their website they always have cask ale on and on this occasion, it was 2 beers from Cairngorm brewery, both of which were kept well. Food was typical pub grub but executed ok. A good range of Scotch Malt also there.“

“For beer variety, this bar is probably your best bet in Stirling though I preferred the ambiance at the cozier Settle Inn. They have four rotating cask ales along with the seven different taps I mentioned in the place entry. Bottle selection is limited but includes Chimay Blue, Bacchus, and others. There’s also a decent scotch selection. They have food, but unfortunately the kitchen closes around 7pm. If you’re late they will direct you to another nearby pub (City Walls) under the same ownership that serves until 9 or so. Baker’s St. also has a weekly quiz night that was kind of fun.“
