62 /100 SUZHOU INDUSTRIAL PARK MOON MARINA BUILDING C1, WUZHONG Came here on 12.11.2023. Very large Boxing Cat branch located at the lake next to the Expo commercial centre. Decorated vey professionally. On a Sunday late afternoon it was almost empty. Since InBev took over the beers are just average. Especially my former favourite ‘Sucker Punch’ is not even close to the original recipe. Burgers and Nachos were quite ok. |
78 /100 688, SUZHOU AVENUE EAST WENBO PLAZA GROUND NO.3 BOLIFANG, WUZHONG Came here on 12.11.2023. Small beer and coffe bar located in the Expo Commercial Area. Around 15 Chinese and US craft beers on tap. Nice long bar and good music. Very relaxing atmosphere. Good place ! |
78 /100 381 SHIZUOKA ROAD Came here 12.11.2023. Small beer bar in the old town of Suzhou. Very good atmosphere and great music. 8 beers on tap. Local and US beers. Very friendly bartender speaking English well. Very cozy place. |
46 /100 Vanguard Shop (Grocery Store) XINGZHOU ST, WUZHONG QU, 215000 A small supermarket near the corner of Xingzhou st and Gaohe Rd. Has approx. 20 different beers, and not all of the are the typically light chinese pale lager. Fair prices. |
96 /100 Birdland Craft Beer (Bar) BLOCK 2, PHASE 4, LI GONG DI, SIP 15 local craft beers on tap, probably the only place to provide so many local craft beers. Easy to find. Try their pizza too, it’s good. |
60 /100 4FL., NO.35, SHISHAN RD, GOLD RIVER INTERNATIONAL BUILDING A faux beer hall with a carnival atmosphere, or should that be circus? This place is huge and decked out with large communal tables and high back chairs, brick and so much wood that one can’t be impressed by their accomplishment in attempting to recreate a Bavarian drinking hall, or at least something to that effect. Four beers available on my visit - Lager, Honey Lager, Dark Lager and a Weizen. I find the beers all lean towards the sweet side. Food menu is a mashup of western style dishes. Hotpot available but looks far from the real day. Le Blé d’Or, I always enjoy flicking through your picture menu, ordering, and then receiving the dish that looks absolutely nothing like it’s professional photo. Service ok but need to constantly wave them down to get attention. Packed on a late Sunday evening with birthday party groups and hundreds of screaming kids. 10pm, surely it’s past their bedtime! |
66 /100 Locke Pub (Bar) 240 PINGJIANG LU Here’s a fantastic cozy, quirky and friendly pub along historic Pingjiang Lu. Alright, so it’s only Guinness and Tsingtao on tap, but the fridge stocks over a dozen Belgian and German imports so at least there’s options and it’s also a nice break from the Bavarian themed breweries in town. There’s daily happy hour prices on select bottles. A pleasant courtyard out back to relax in. Kitchen provides bar snacks. The owners dog and two cats just chill here. Cool. |
54 /100 KEMPINSKI HOTEL SUZHOU, GUOBIN RD, SUZHOU INDUSTRIAL PARK/JIANGSU This is another stock standard Paulaner restaurant situated in the Kempinski Hotel. It’s actually a bit of a trek to get out here so best to jump in a taxi to save time. Three beers available - Pils, Wheat and a ’special’ beer which at a guess was a bockbier. Food is Bavarian influenced but the menu also has no shortage of western and chinese options available. Staff were efficient but it wasn’t busy so would not expect less. It’s only worth making the trek out here if for some reason you’re seriously craving Paulaner beer and german food while in Suzhou. |
38 /100 GROUND FLOOR, LAKESIDE BUILDING, LAKESIDE BOULEVARD, SUZHOU INDUSTRIAL PARK It was a Sunday and the streets were teeming with the bustle of locals going about their business and enjoying this fine and sunny day in Suzhou. Walking past Löwenburg Brauerei, I decided to stop by for refreshments but assumed the pub had not yet open for trade as it was dark inside and nobody, customers or staff, were to be seen, however the doors were open. Not a worry, I went and explored Suzhou for a good few hours and planned to return later that day. Came back late afternoonish and sure enough, still dark inside and no customers at all. I spotted a waiter who confirmed they were indeed open and ready for business. Um, OK. Well, I took a seat in a completely empty restaurant with ten waitstaff (I counted them) standing around doing absolutely sweet f-all. Feeling miserable sitting alone in a hot, stuffy and dark restaurant there was only one logical thing to do - order a cold tasty beverage. Now, to make my experience even more awesome, the wheat beer that was brought to my table came served at ambient temperature (warm) and was completely turbid (soup) in the glass. OK, so clearly the electricity had cut out and for fair reason this was the last place anybody wanted to be on a warm sunny day in Suzhou. Except for me and the ten bored looking waitstaff of course. |
58 /100 SUZHOU CULTURE AND ARTS CENTER (NORTH GATE), 1 SUZHOU DADAO DONG, SIP Walk around the back of the Science and Cultural Arts Centre to find the pub. I stopped by for lunch and grabbed the last outside table looking over Jinji Lake. The brewpub is large inside with plenty of table seating in an attempt to recreate a German beer hall atmosphere. Three beers available - lager, wheat and black beer. No flaws with the beer but just OK to drink. Had a plate of frischer leberkase which was nice enough. Wait staff were busy but it didn’t affect the level of service. |
58 /100 KEMPINSKI HOTEL SUZHOU, GUOBIN RD, SUZHOU INDUSTRIAL PARK/JIANGSU Have been here 18th of July 2013. This Paulaner is located in a huge Kempinski hotel directly on the lake with a nice Golf course attached. They have quite a large brewhouse and several tanks. Ambiente is typical Paulaner, bavarian style. Weissbier is ok, not as good as in Shanghai, but drinkable. The rest is like in the Shanghai Paulaners: live band from Philipines, etc. The combination hotel, lake, Golf course and brewpub is very enticing. Considering to come back for a weekend.

22 /100 Summit The Market Place (Grocery Store) NO.128 JINJIHU ROAD - EAST 1ST FLOOR If you are in the area, this seems to be the place to get imported beers from Germany, Britain, Belgium, Australia, USA. Not a beer store per se, but covers the basic needs with Rogue, North Coast, Coopers, Erdinger, König Pilsener... |
