“Nice place just outside Sydney in an industrial area. They did a trivia night when I visited, so I had to sit outside. They had 12 taps with their own beers and a couple of ciders too. Nice atmosphere.“

“Visited on June 26, 2022, in the evening. Located in downtown Sydney, on the waterfront. It's a seasonal restaurant, being open air, at least it was nice and sunny that evening. A very nice small menu, mostly fish and seafood, what we had was very good. The beer selection however is not that big and very limited in local beers and other beverage. Good service, even though he did not know were the microbrewery beer realy come from. Maybe not the best beer destination in town, but a good place to eat!“

“Visited on June 24, 2022, in the evening. Located in downtown Sydney, may be the biggest restaurant in town. Typical commercial irish pub, wood every were. Lots of beers on tap, but almost macros with four or five locals. The food is greasy pub fair, ok but not more than that. The server was very young and not that much experience, or speed. It was an alternative to the Governors Pub & Eatery, not much of an alternative!“

“Visited on June 24, 2022, in the afternoon. Located off route 305, south of downtown Sydney and just north of highway 125, in a small industrial complex, it is the furthest building from Keltic Dr. An unassuming looking building with a silo at the far end, the inside is a typical industrial decor, with long high tables, high ceiling, windows looking out at the brewery room and a bar. Their beers were ok at best, despite I had their Crazy Angus two days ago and I really like it, their hefeweizen that I had days later was also good. The only food are snacks, but sometimes they do have a food truck. The service was nice, but they did over charge for a beer we did not have. It's an over all ok brewery.“

“Visited on June 24th, 2022, not long after opening. Located in the North End neighborhood of Sydney, which is mostly residential. From the outside, it does not look like much, except at the entrance on the side were it's more cosy, but the inside is a layback country vibe, you wont feel like your in a city. They had four of their own, that I had in taster's, an invited cidre (I don't remember from who) and three from Breton Brewery (they had two Island Folk at their place also). Plus a few seasonnals in bottles for sale only. The ones I had are Good Company (regular and ok), Fortress made for the fortress of Louisbourg (quite special in a good way), Strawberry (like it) and Rebel Rosé (like it even more). Jessy our host was very nice and helpful with the selection. The have snacks like chips and they do have live show sometimes. I wouldn't mind going back, if I had any reason to go back to Sydney, but I'll try more of their ciders!“

“Stopped here on a recent motorcycle trip to Atlantic Canada. It was dreary and cold when I got there in late June but I had hours to kill before the ferry. Unassuming industrial garage of a building that my GPS had lots of trouble finding. Anyhow I showed up and they were celebrating an anniversary so the place was packed. Cozy tap room with maybe a dozen tables and some room at the bar for one weary traveler from NH. Flights pints and cans to go. The beer ranged from decent to great with a hefe and brown at the top of my list. No food but they had a food truck for the event. Service was great although a bit busy. Great vibe, they had bands all day and everyone seemed friendly. I'd go back if I was in the area.“

“In the summer of 2017, they added an outdoor beer garden to the normal restaurant business of Governor's. Bigger tap selection, all of it is craft, by far the best craft beer location in Cape Breton and actually a pretty solid place to spend an evening while in Sydney. Nice old building with a dining room downstairs and a pub up top. Nice decks on both levels. They have a nice tap list (better now with the addition of some local micros). Friendly service and reasonable prices - I’ve only eaten here once, but the food was lovely. It’s really the only game in town if you’re looking for craft beer.“

“2017-08-14. Surprisingly cozy place in an industrial park. Nice high top tables, giant chalkboard behind the bar. Windows into the brewery. Six taps of their own brews on today. Server is friendly. Nice small patio is in full sun today so we opt for shade by the open patio door. Decent stop and well worth a visit if in the area, but the the beers just okay for the most part (aiming for mainstream acceptance presumably) with one or two that rose above the crowd.“

“A large bar with a bit of a party atmoshpere to the place. TVs throughout the place with all sorts of Irish kitsch on the walls. Service was a bit slow despite the bar being slow. While this place has the most taps in Sydney, they are mainly dominated by Macros with only a few local micros on. Did not try the food on my visit. Prices seemed a touch steep.“

“A two level pub in a large old colonial home. Upstairs area is more of a bar while the downstairs is more of a restaurant. History adorns the walls. Service was good and they basically made a spot for us to sit. A nice selection of Nova Scotian taps with a macro or two as well. Food was quite good and the prices weren’t too bad. Not much going on in Sydney overall but at least this place is here.“

“Popped in a few times when I was back home. They’ve got a lovely little tasting room up front and a very large brewhouse in back. Growlers filled and you can have a pint in the brewery. Nice little space and a welcome addition to the Cape Breton scene. I’ll be here every time I’m visiting my in-laws close by.“

“I think this is the only pub with a decent beer selection in Sydney, and that is just big spruce products and Garrisons. The food is good if a bit pricy.“

“This is more of an observation of Sydney than Governors Pub, but why visit? I’m originally from Michigan, and this town permeates desperation like Flint. Really sad town. Governors is the only thing to do in the area. Seriously. Nice enough place with a respectable tap list, but you won’t want to stay long unless you have to.“

“Lovely building overlooking Sydney harbour. Great interior décor. Layout in a more restaurant style. I would like to see a couple of leather seats by the fireplace to sit, read and have a beer. The pub has a good British feel. Beer selection is very limited. Stella, Guinness, the Keiths family and a selection of beer from Garrison. Decent food menu. The soup of the day is very good, served with a large home made scone. Friendly service and the best value in town. If your going to go out and have a beer in Sydney. This is the place to go.“

“Went to the Governor’s Pub and Eatery during a recent trip to Sydney. The pub is located on the main street that runs alongside the ocean. The pub is in an old house with a restaurant downstairs and a bar upstairs. Outside patios both up and down stairs. I didn’t eat the food, but it appeared to be upscale pub food. The on-tap beer selection included Guinness and several beers from Alexander Keith. The beer selection was mainly Irish and local Canadian in origin. There was live music, with an Irish fiddle and keyboard player.“
