70 /100 Chapel Down Wine and Fine Food Store (Beer Store) TENTERDEN VINEYARD, SMALLHYTHE ROAD Chapel Down are perhaps one of the better known names in English wine, particularly sparkling varieties. They are located due south of Tenterden town, with the shop itself house in a rather contemporary wooden building. They have their own range of beers (Curious Brew) and a rather nice selection of local ales (e.g. Old Dairy) and ciders (e.g. Biddenden). What surprised me is the rather extensive range of Kernel (perhaps 20 different types). There is of course a large selection of wine and you are free to sample them and their house beers. Plenty of tasty food available also. A very nice shop all-round and well worth a visit. |
60 /100 White Lion (Bar) 57 HIGH STREET We stayed at the White Lion when in the area for a wedding. Located on Tenterden High Street and is a proper Inn - a combo of pub, restaurant and hotel. It is a traditional looking building that has been given a contemporary face-lift, while keeping period features (exposed wood beams etc). The beer selection wasn’t too bad - 6 cask offerings on our visit. 3 were Martson’s (unfortunately) and the other 3 were from more local breweries - Old Dairy and the like. In addition to that they had a couple of ales in bottles and kegs from Brooklyn, Shipyard etc. Not a destination in its own right for beer, but a very nice place to stay if you’re in the area. |
