“Quiet on a Sunday afternoon, quite the opposite of Stumptown. Five beers on, so flights are fixed. Good service, average beer, good meatballs. Small food menu available. Place is a mishmash of buildings, more like a barn. Crude patio, three seasons room, dimly lit bar in taproom. Pretty barebones.“

“A large place just outside the downtown area. Very spacious, barn-like ambiance. Some old farm relics around as well. Refurbished tables/chair, definitely brought you back in time. They only had 4 taps and 1 was out, so pretty paltry selection. Had the stout and amber, pretty basic. No food. Not a place I'd go back to unless it was the only option.“

“Free dedicated parking right in front. Medium siz d bar inthe back right. Plenty of tables. Was not busy during my visit and service was good. Selection was Blackwater brews with a few guest taps. Prices were average. I would come back.“

“Really cool place in an old General Store, came here on a Friday night for a Bluegrass Show & it did not disappoint! Music is what they do best....had food which looked good but I had already eaten. Had four WV brews on tap & a good Can/Bottle selection. Outdoor eating area as well. The place to visit in the Thomas/Davis/Blackwater Falls area.“

“Stopped in here around 12:30 on a Thursday afternoon. The building is located in the downtown area of Thomas, which as best as I could tell, is just a quarter mile strip of shops. Seemed like a cool little place to visit. Some of the shops were interesting. There is street parking available. Once inside, you see a stage directly to the left with lots of tables and then a bar type area to the right and against the back wall. The 4 taps they had were all West Virginia beers, which is great to see. They do have food, but I had just eaten at Hellbender so I passed on that. The woman running the bar and kitchen was fairly knowledgeable and helpful. Friendly as well. Most of the locals in the area I talked with would ask me if I planned to see the show at the Purple Fiddle the night I was in town. I wish I would have had the opportunity. Music seems to be their niche. It would be a fun place to enjoy some music and local beer. Hopefully I can do that some day. If you do happen to stay in the Thomas/Davis area, purple fiddle is also a hostel. Their rates were pretty good when, too. Much cheaper than any hotel I found.“

“Nice location on the lower of two parallel streets that run through this picturesque town. Street parking was easy to find on a Saturday afternoon in late March. Inside looks like an old general store converted to a small pub where live music is the center of attention, mainly bluegrass and its variants. Sever was very friendly and helpful. Four beers on tap included one from Bridge Brew Works. Plenty of bottles too, half craft and half macro. We were the only ones drinking local craft brews, for everyone else it was Corona Light, hold the lime (one older guy explained that he didn’t want anything to mask the full flavor of the beer). Food was locally sourced and homemade; the dessert we had was very tasty. We would easily come back here for the music, and to be able to drink local beers on tap while listening would be a special treat that you don’t see in many other places.“

“This is the source of the beers for the other brewpub locations. The road wasn’t marked, and the sign was small, so we passed it a couple of times before we figured out where it was. Large parking lot, no problem there. Inside is like someone’s living room, cozy and quirky, with of course a bar on the left with equally quirky sawhorse barstools/benches. Small swag area in the corner included a large axe. All the usual suspects were on offer, on tap and in bottles, as well as one seasonal, a black IPA which was OK. Food was peanuts, M&Ms and homemade pepperoni rolls - remember, this is the brewery, not a brewpub. One of the brewers was serving, so she was happy to chat about the beers and craft beer in general. Folks were stopping by periodically for growlers and a pint, although they do taster flights as well. Nice stop.“

“Stopped in on a ski trip to Canaan Valley. Had a flight of all 5 ot their beers on tap for a total of $3. All were decent beers. Had some chili too and it was tasty. Freindly folks.. Worth the 10 mile drive on snow covered roads.“

“Very nice little set up. It was extremely hot out and they don’t have ac so it can get warm in there. Cool set up and really rustic feel to it. They have a back room for dining and a stage so I’m guessing live bands. Beers are meh but for WV its a winner.“

“Stopped in on our way through WV. Missed the local brewery but this place was open. Has a coffee shop ambiance. Shabby, mis-matched, very casual and low key. The Trivial Pursuit on the tables and the shop kitty were a plus. (The kitty even jumped up in my chair with me for a good while.) Bummer that all of thier taps of local brew were out- boo! Their bottle list seemed decent, though. Service was friendly. Food (sandwiches and light fare with a hippie flair) was good. Pricing seemed average. Nice to stop in for a bite on a chilly rainy day.“

“Stopped by here as I was going thru Thomas just to check the place out on a Thursday afternoon even though I knew they weren’t gonna be open. Had spent the last 2 nights @ Deep Creek Lake & Enjoyed their new place in McHenry Md, wanted to see the brewery. Ran into 2 guys installing new equipment who I had seen the night before. They recognized me & were as nice as can be..."come on in, look around...pour yourself a brew!" (I Did!) Very small & very casual, entertainment on the weekend, real down to earth place/folks. Not much food selection, they run some specials so it could be kind of hit or miss. They are in the process of upgrading & expanding their capacity to allow them to brew seasonals, it’s all they can do now to keep up w/the demand for their 4 staple brews since their new place in Md opened. I’ll have to get back here & catch a show! Update 8/16-Have several guest taps now...nice addition.“

“Started here on a Saturday night. Very nice location, it was a very unique environment. The ambiance was very ‘hippy-esque’ but cozy. Seating inside was very unconventional. There were a few tables, but were full by the time of our arrival. We sat in armchairs up against the counter. There was not a bar seating area. There was an outside porch seating area with tables, chairs, and a few couches. Service was good, they had two people working the bar and you ordered food there was well. I’m unsure if this is different when there is not music. Selection is probably one of the better overall beer selections in the state. They have the Mt. State Brewing Co. brews on tap and about any of the craft beers available in WV. Their website has a beer/food menu. Food was good I had the chicken and Caesar salad wrap with hummus dip. The menu was basically all wraps. I believe they had homemade ice cream as well. Overall this was a very nice place for a bite to eat and some decent beer. Another must see in the Davis/Thomas area.“

“This place is definitely the late-night weekend (Saturday night) hang out in Thomas, WV. We went to The Purple Fiddle first, and finished here. The ambiance was very rustic. The small bar area was nice and cozy, like a den. There was an open “dance” area in a barn-type building and an outside sitting area. The environment was very relaxed and welcoming. Service was decent, the bartender was newer but good. Selection is their brews, sangria, and Car bombs. My favorite was the Seneca IPA. The others were good as well. Growlers and kegs were available for purchase on-premises. The had advertisements for helvetia cheese but I cannot remember if they actually had it at the bar for consumption. Overall it was a very nice place, a must visit if in the area. Also, their posted hours for (at least Saturday) the weekends are very ‘flexible.’“

“Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon after hiking Blackwater Falls. Not much going on, but the place had a nice cozy, rustic feel. Tried the IPA, amber, and stout. All fairly decent with the amber surprisingly the best. They also have a sangria on tap that is supposedly very good but neither my wife or myself tried it. Small bar area with seating for only about a dozen or so. Large garage-like room adjacent to the bar with random couches and chairs set up. Also a small stage set up in the corner for performers (live music on the weekends). Be sure to also check out the nearby Purple Fiddle for more live music if you’re in Thomas/Davis/Canaan.“
