“Located a stone’s throw from Ogura station lies this oasis of craft beer. To get there turn left down a narrow alley parallel to the track out the Kintetsu Ogura Station West Exit, when the alley opens up past the beauty parlor it is on your right. From the outside it looks like a generic grey house but then you notice the signs out front promising beer and you open the door to a riot of color: black polka dots on white walls, a white U-shaped bar, a red back wall and red foam covered piping that serves as seating. Subtle decor it is not, made me think of the 80s. Open from 11am to 11pm Mon-Sat it has 6 taps plus a dozen or so bottles of beer on hand (half macro - half craft). Prices are reasonable with small glasses 450 or 600 yen and large ones 650 or 900 yen. No table charge when I went(a Thursday afternoon) but it is a standing bar so I doubt they have one. Really friendly husband & wife team running things since setting up shop 3 years ago who were happy to chat beer. On tap when I went: Johana Earl Grey, Johana Blood Orange, Nagahama Kurokabe Stout & the cheap craft beer was Kuni no Cho Kolsch. I guess they other two taps were macro lagers or not on when I visited. Not worth a special trip but if you find yourself in the area it’s worth popping in for a gander.“

“Located right in front of JR Uji Station’s South Exit is this ersatz British style pub(2F) with 9 taps (5 of craft beer). My first impression of the place is a cute small bar which was quickly ruined by the staff harassing us about reserved seats when the place was empty which really got my goat so I had to tell him off. After that things calmed down, if you aren’t a regular these guys may be dicks about seating. A live show with cover was tge excuse given us but if we’d sat anywhere else in this tiny place we’d have been in tge way of tge performers seating up, ridiculous... Prices here are quite good: 1500 yen for a tasting set of 3 half pints is a good deal. I got a Punk IPA, Kinshachi Vienna Lager and a Minami Shinshu Alps Weizen set(your choice among the 5 taps, ask for a nomikurabe set though their signs say they speak English. 550 yen for a half-sized fish & chips is also decent, it was surprisingly large. Barring that first hiccup about the seating me and my friend had a good time and would definitely go back. Uji is a short 17min ride on the JR Rapid train from Kyoto station making a nice stop. Overall a good place to drink in Uji, worth checking out. I didn’t get the friendly service HKAndy got but if I had this would be a high 60s-low 70s kind of bar. Not exceptional but solid and good for the area.“

“An unexpected and great find in Uji, right across the street from the JR station. The selection isn’t amazing, but they always have a couple interesting things on tap and bottles. The staff and general ambiance is great. Fast and very friendly.“
