86 /100 Colón Beer Tap (Bar) JUAN MAMBRILLA 30 We visited the Colon Beer Tap, Sunday 1st July 2018, we were camped/parked a 10mins walk away on Av. Ramon Pradera where there was a dedicated mobile home/campervan area set aside in the car park. The Colon Beer Tap is very close to both Le Passion and Blow Beer Bar the latter not open on a Sunday and the former was very disappointing (poor service). Colon was a great bar, very much more in a typical bar or pub style. It is located on the end of the street and has some seats outside, some folk were sat out here watching the football, we sat at the bar with a beer and watched Spain v Russia extra time and penalties. The barman was serving and watching the football, he was pacing up and down the bar, he looked anguished, so much emotion pouring out of him, Rapido, Rapido he shouted urging Spain to show a bit more urgency when attacking in the final stages of extra time.
There were a couple or more taps with a rare Spanish micro (Fat Sparrow Hop Destroyer as one option) and bottles lined up to both the left and right of the fonts. Left hand side was darker beers with the likes of De Molen and a couple of Spanish Micros to the right gold and amber bottles with a Struisse Tjessus (spelt wrong) amongst the selection this side. This was a small bar with a couple of great pictures of The Rolling Stones on the walls and further back Springsteen and a darts area, I recall it was called Springsteen corner that area of the bar. I had a H2ÖL Imperial Caramelet Stout, Loz had the aforementioned Hop Destroyer. We really liked this place, however felt desperately sorry for the barman/landlord as Spain crashed out to the hosts on penalties. If I lived in Valladolid this would be my local, it was a very friendly place with a great atmosphere. However I still don't know and can't work out what Colon translates to or means in Spanish, I saw a couple of places with Colon in the name today. |
34 /100 La Passion Café (Bar) C. RUIZ HERNÁNDEZ, 8, BAJO We visited La Passion, Sunday 1st July 2018, we were camped/parked a 10mins walk away on Av. Ramon Pradera where there was a dedicated mobile home/campervan area set aside in the car park. Le Passion is just around the corner from Colon Beer Tap and Blow Beer Bar the latter not open on a Sunday. We'd tried to come here earlier, it was supposed to be open but it was still closed so this visit was later in the evening.
It appears to be quite small inside, also quite dark. To be fair it may well go on further into other rooms but we only noted this one. The bar is a corner configuration and takes up quite a bit of space in what is a small room. There were a couple of fridges and the selection was ok with a few expensive imports but also plenty of cheaper offerings from the likes of Brewdog. The barman seemed more interested in faffing about making milkshakes rather than see what we wanted, needless to say after twiddling our fingers and looking across for attention and going over to the fridges we were seemingly invisible so didn't hang around any longer and wandered off. |
54 /100 Restaurante Ángela (Restaurant) DOCTOR CAZALLA, 1 We visited Cerveceria Angela
Sunday 1st July 2018, we were camped/parked a 10mins walk away on Av. Ramon Pradera where there was a dedicated mobile home/campervan area set aside in the car park. Anyway back to the place, Restaurant Angela is fairly central and located on Calle Doctor Cazalla there is a wine shop a few doors away that sells about 75+ beers that I will add onto the site, otherwise the best beery places nearby are a bottle shop called El gato que bebía Cervezas and a craft beer bar called Vacceo Craft Beer both of these are just a couple of minutes walk away (but opposite directions). Angela had the upper hand in terms of us visiting here as our first four options were all closed and not due to open until early evening. Angela does have a rather Germanic look to it and inside plenty of solid wood gives it a rustic feel. The bar is on the right with seating off to the left and a further room at the rear which is laid out for a more formal dining experience.
Despite being down as a restaurant, you can visit this place just for a drink and there are a four seats/stools outside on the street, we sat here on our visit in the afternoon but returned later on to eat and sat inside. The beer choice on tap is limited to four but nothing of interest. The bottle choice was ok, however in what is becoming something of a theme for bars I'm visiting in Spain the choice was mostly confined to Belgian classics, though I did find a couple of Spanish micros. The best way to choose is to visit the bar and on the right hand side under glass the bottle choice is laid out so you can see what they have and point to your selection. The barman was ok but had little or no charisma. We ate here later, I went for pork knuckle, Loz went for four different types of sausages, both meals were served up with no enthusiasm or interest and whilst they were what they said they were, they were really bland. I would suggest that there are much better beer and food choices in town. |
74 /100 C. DE JUAN MAMBRILLA, 25 Great ambiance, always playing all sorts of black music, short selection but great service. |
78 /100 La Provenza (Bar) C/ JUAN AGAPITO Y REVILLA, 11 Local muy grande, con una seleccón enorme de cervezas. Clásicos belgas, alemanes y europeos con referencias de crafts españolas y locales. |
78 /100 La Passion Café (Bar) C. RUIZ HERNÁNDEZ, 8, BAJO Found this place while trying to find another bar that I had chosen to visit during my one night stay in Valladolid. Didnt regret that we visited La Passion instead. Only one tap but many bottles locals and others, which means many new ticks for me :P Tried some local beers and not only. They have some nice sandwiches for food and some muffins if I remember correctly. Nice ambiance, good service, OK prices. |
Precios altos. Birras en botella clásicos y alguna micro europea. No es gran cosa |
72 /100 La Passion Café (Bar) C. RUIZ HERNÁNDEZ, 8, BAJO Nice selection of very good beers: De Molen, Brewdog, Mikkeller...The place is nice, the music is good and the bartender is very kind. However, there are three problems with the beers: The beers temperature is not always the correct; the bartender doesn’t use the proper glassware for each beer and, the most of all: is very, very expensive (Schlenkerla + Raging Bitch=11 euro!!). It deserves a visit, anyway. |
72 /100 La Provenza (Bar) C/ JUAN AGAPITO Y REVILLA, 11 Nice place, interesting selection, although maybe a little bit conventional. The best? You can always have Trippel Karmeliet or a Gulden Draak, and the assortment of local craft beers (almost has all of them). The worst? The football matches days: are so crowdy that is impossible get to the balcony. Anyway, nice prices and nice ambient for a nice place. |
74 /100 Restaurante Ángela (Restaurant) DOCTOR CAZALLA, 1 A good place where eat german food. It would be perfect to find more selection of beers. |
