74 /100 THE GREEN,
“We visited here on Friday 28th June 2013, despite the fact that camping is available at the pub we stopped at the Holycombe campsite which is a 5 min walk in the same village. The pub seems to be fairly centrally located in the village across from the green which has on it what appeared to be a full side football pitch with a great slope. Outside of the pub is I guess a Norman Knight on his horse, bit tacky looking IMHO. The bar is in front of you as soon as you enter. It is very traditional old fashioned type of pub the ceilings seened quite low, I think the floors were flagged and it was dark inside the pub but it had a really nice atmosphere. There were no beers on from the Patriot brewery that operates from the pub but there was a beer from the local Whale brewery in nearby Lower Brailes. We also had Cotswold Lion from Hooky. All in all a decent pub in a very lovely location, close to Hook Norton, Shipston on Stour and Rollright Stones. Will definately get here again at some point. Interesting that you walk into a pub and someone knows you, Tony Goulding from Oxford City CAMRA were also visiting so we spent time chatting to them.“

“The past meets the present in this beautifully preseved village pub in remote Warwickshire. A relaxing atmosphere with well brewed beers awaits those who make their way. The Landlord is particularly knowledgeable about the brewing of beer, many of which will be on offer at the bar. The brewery only brews for the pub and occasional festivals.
Update 02/12/12. Time has moved on here. The house Brewery is now Patriot and new Landlords. The atmosphere is less country and more food orientated. Few places to sit for drinkers and no longer the chat. The beer is still good though and still a must to visit, just not quite as good as it was.“

“I hold this pub close to my heart for the fun times I had there and is one of the finest in Warwickshire. Good pub food with local local tastes. Has hosted some decent folk / classic acoustic rock acts. Was trapped there due to a terrible storm and the electricity went out, so the candels came out for a fun brew session experience. Staff are a great laugh and they run a small campground in the back. Fairly close to the roll-right stones, where I witnessed a pagan wedding, which was quite unique. We held our going away party there and had a great time. Cheers,“

“They tell me that Wizard Ales are now available in fifteen local pubs. Old fashioned pub with excellent beer and decent food. Thanks to imdownthepub for this recommendation, without which I would never have turned off the high road and discovered this pleasant backwater.“
