“Midway between Rochdale and Bacup, the road to this pub is on the left side if you're travelling north between the two. A small tap room at the brewery, you'll find the current range of brews from Mighty Medicine here, probably only at weekends though when it's open. That said the last time I tried to go here at Christmas 2018 it was closed and had been for some timef, which was due to the lengthy change of ownership the brewery has gone through over the past couple of years. Whether it opens again I'm not too sure as their main concern now is their bar in the centre of Rochdale.“

“brand new brewery Tap, on an industrial Estate in Whitworth there’s a small bar area which for the minute has exclusively the brewery’s own beers with a extra spill over area opposite the brewing tanks.“

“Certainly off the beaten track in this fairly isolated section of the valley between Rochdale and Bacup, meaning you’ll probably won’t come across this place by accident if you’re passing through the area. There’s enough of a conurbation though to make this a fairly popular place for regulars though. It’s a Robinsons pub in an attractive looking building on the corner of two small roads that are slightly, and residential. Here you’ll find a couple of regular ales from the brewer, and probably the latest seasonal too. The better reason to come here though is for the very seldom seen Wards Smooth Bitter which can be found on keg at the bar. It’s a two roomed pub, both of which are long and thin with the bar operating two sides in the middle of these. The comfortable best room is to the right of the central entrance, the lesser attractive ’bar’ area is to the left.“

WHITWORTH SQUARE
“Certainly worth the 200 metre detour off the main road between Rochdale and Bacup, simply for the lovely location this pub is situated in. You know you’re getting close when the slowly rising road turns into cobbles. Whitworth Square is not a regular square, and its cobbles are mainly used as parking spaces, but it’s certainly no less attractive for it. Around the pub are some really old but attractive buildings that make this a really quaint and relaxing place to spend some time, especially if the weather is good. The pub is open plan inside, but withe defined spaces to drink in all around the ground floor area. The central entrance leads into the spacious inside, with the majority of seating to the right hand side of the pub, with the partly rotund bar set back inside to the left. There’s four hand pumps at the bar which will almost certainly carry changing ales from local micros such as Boggart or Phoenix.“

“A pub on the main road on the northern side of Whitworth. This pub has several rooms including one with a pool table in it. The main room is small and very ordinary although it does display on the walls local art works which seem to be on sale. It does advertise cask ales on a chalkboard outside which is the reason I stopped here and its two pumps include a rotating selection - used beer clips behind the bar included locals brewers such as Pictish, Phoenix and Prospect. There’s also a keg selection available from Thwaites. There’s several picnic tables outside the main entrance. Food is served here and curiously advertises itself as a Thai Restaurant too, so it can be viewed as a restaurant where you can drink real ale.“

“Just beyond the sign that marks the end of Greater Manchester and the start of Lancashire on the main road between Rochdale and Bacup, this freehouse is has a very traditional and local feel to it, although unusually it has a mix of cushions available for its chairs and bench seats. The main room is around an L-shaped bar with a comfortable enough drinking section at the front and a more suitable dining area to the room. The other room has a darts board and pool table in it. There’s several Sam Smiths ales available here but it is not a Sam Smiths pub, so you won’t find any of the swanky bottled stuff here such as their Chocolate Stout, just the session keg brews. They do rotate guest ales here too and the used pump clips are on the wall showing a wide mix of regional brewers including Beartown, Three B’s and Cross Bay. This includes seasonals.“
