Como Lounge (Restaurant)
34 MARKET SQUARE,
“Visited December 2020. I've been to quite a few of the pubs in the "Lounge" chain now; I was quite taken with the first one but after visiting more I quickly tired of them. They're all fairly large and open plan places, with the walls covered in hundreds of ugly portraits in huge ornate frames. There are big dangly lights and deliberately mismatched shabby chic furniture in bright colours. Service is variable; the food is modern pub grub plus tapas, and is reasonably decent for the price. The beer choice is limited but seemed unusual on my first visit (to the Stroud branch); Bath Dark Side, Bristol Beer Factory Cruiser, and one from Goose Island. On subsequent visits to other branches (including this one) over several years, I found the beer choice didn't change at all. Overall then it's a reasonable place for a quick meal but it's definitely not a beer destination.“

Como Lounge (Restaurant)
34 MARKET SQUARE,
“Stop in here while in Witney, mainly because the food smell was so amazing. I didn't really find much on the menu in form of beer that I wanted, but the wife found some NZ fruited ciders...a ticks a tick. My burger was amazing and the chips were fabulous too. They had lots of steps put in to support social distancing.“

“Visited Autumn 2019. Smallish bar down one of the alleyways off of the high street, made bigger through an awning outside. A very handy stop for the gents in the family whilst the ladies went off to a craft fair! I don't know if their heating had failed on our visit or something, but it was bitterly cold inside & we had to keep our coats on all the time. At the time of our visit in Autumn 2019 it was owned by Oxbrew but also stocked beers from Little Ox - I understand the two breweries have since merged. There was also a guest beer from Titanic - I think there were 2 or 3 cask beers & half a dozen on keg. They were in good nick albeit a little hazy. The barman was very friendly and welcoming and clearly knew his stuff. However, the icy temperature of the pub rather detracted from what would otherwise have been a nice place - hopefully that was a temporary issue though.“

“Large Wetherspoons in an ex Cinema in the centre of town. Named after the primary industry in the town until a few years back. All the standard Wetherspoons fixtures and fittings. Reasonable service in here, reasonably clean and tidy.“

Como Lounge (Restaurant)
34 MARKET SQUARE,

We visited The Como Lounge on Saturday 23rd January 2016 with my mum and Keith. It’s strange really to note that it seems that all of the places on RB in Witney all appear to be at this end of town (Corn Street is just off the corner of this place)

This is a pretty big place with a focus on food mainly, there maybe folk just here for a drink but I think that they are in the minority as many like us are here for a bite to eat. Btw the food is pretty good, we had fish finger sandwiches, Keith had some pulled pork thing. The decor is the all too familiar shabby chic look, mismatched chairs, tables, random unloved portrait paintings on the walls you know the sort of look that many are going for these days, but it’s fine. Big glass windows offer good people watching opportunities looking out on the top end of Market Sq.

There is certainly not a huge choice of beers in here, just a few kegs, but with Bristol Beer Factory Cruiser Atlantic Pale and Bath Dark Side on I should imagine that these are probably rarities in somewhere like Witney and one of the key reasons I have added this place to the database. I didn’t mind it here, for a bite to eat and a beer it’s fine.“

Witney Polish Deli (Grocery Store)
62 CORN ST

We visited The Witney Polish Deli’ on Saturday 23rd January 2016. It is located on Corn Street so pretty much where most of the interesting beery places in Witney are situated. If you turn into Corn Street from the centre of town then the Polish Deli is a couple of minutes walk on your right hand side.

I hope that I am not sounding a little rude when I say this, however I have to say that as Polish Deli’s/food stores go this looked a cut above the rest. There are no gaudy signs, no neon, no yellow and orange star stickers with latest offers on cheap deals, nope this had the look and feel of a real quality deli’ both from its shop front and really well laid out interior.

As you enter there are essentially two distinct areas to the shop to the left and rear are general grocery products such as pasta, tinned items, bread, a refrigerated area has cured meats and dairy products back towards the front there were huge jars of honey 1.4kg, you could make your own mead with them I thought and they were only £11-12. On the other side near the counter was a large selection of Polish sausages and other meats and a beer fridge was tucked away here. I counted about 25 beers almost all Polish with perhaps three or four foreign beers in and amongst. I started checking them on my phone a few of these only had a handful of ratings some such as Tatra Mocne were more familiar, however for the casual shopper I reckon you could pick up a few new rates here. As it happens I was being rushed by Loz and ended up with no beer but we did get two rye bread loaves. Worth looking into whether it’s beer or other Polish products you want, the prices were v.good.“

64 /100 78 CORN STREET,

I visited The Horseshoes on Tuesday 22nd December 2015. I hadn’t intended going here, however The Eagle and New Inn on the same street and both also on this site were yet to open.

As I entered the pub my nostrils picked up a lovely aroma of woodsmoke there is a bar area to the left and right hand sides of the main door, the actual bar is ahead to the LH side and the woodsmoke came from an open fire in this part of the pub. Stone pub wooden floors and old wooden beams, nice comfy furniture including ultra comfy bar stools completed the picture. The pub continued back some way with a room off to the RH side of the central corridor being laid out for diners.

The Horseshoes is a nice stone pub on a corner along Corn Street which to me has always appeared to be the main pub street in this lovely often overlooked market town. On tap were three cask beers with an ok choice featuring Otter Bitter, Wychwood Hobgoblin and Cotswold Lion Hogget, I settled for the latter which was in good nick and fine. It was a nice pub and bar area very pleasant. I guess food is its main game but the front section demonstrates that they take those just in for a beer equally seriously

“Quite recently bought and renovated by Hook Norton Brewery, this is a very traditional pub, lots of wood panelling and stone flooring. Lots of banter from the locals. Very decent.“

New Inn (Bar)
111 CORN STREET.
“Locals pub slightly outside the town centre, there is good and changing range of Real Ales in a relaxed atmosphere. Modernised and opened out which is a little unfortunate, big on T.V sports. Worth the effort to get there.“
