“This is a lovely pub on the northern edge of old Woodstock, handy for the Blenheim Palace grounds. It sits above the River Glyme with a riverside garden then patio towards the rear. There is just on long bar area inside themed on the local prince. Frankly the only choice in town as the remainder of Woodstock is a beer hunters desert.“

“This used to be the pub favoured by the Estate workers from nearby Blenheim Palace, over the 4 years since my last visit it has been upgraded to a mirror image of most of the other pubs in central Woodstock and has thus lost all its character, and customers by the looks. Quiet as a library with a beer variety matching it, just Arkells 3B on hand pull at a staggering £4 a pint, particularly as the beer was quite flat and lifeless. A true example of how to take the heart and soul out of a decent pub.“

“Came in summer, and the beer garden was popping! Lots of tables in a gorgeous grassy grotto on the wee canal. The barkeep was knowledgable and had two of the four taps as local beers. All in top form. Food is served at lunch and dinner hours only and we had tasty sandwiches. Good stop in the Blenheim Castle town.“

“We visited the Black Prince Sunday 1st July 2012. On a cycle ride that took in Kidlington, Woodstock, Glympton, Westcote Barton, Caulcott, KIrtlington, Islip and back home to Merton. This pub is alongside the river and is situated about a 8-10 minute walk from the centre of town, heading North on the A44. Old stone pub on the outside but quite modern appearance inside with a long refurbished bar area but with a little too much emphasis on food for my liking. There were four beers on offer two monthly specials from Oxfordshire Ales of Marsh Gibbon, Bucks and also Vale brewery, Brill, Bucks alongside two Cornish beers. Beers were well kept but in themself were a tad bland. Pub is fine but strange smell (like burnt cheese) and the tiles on the floor of the gents toilet were totally cracked and lifting, a real hazard I would guess. Worth going to if in area not least because there is every chance that you may find something interesting on the beery front.“
