68 /100 LAKE HOTEL
“Located in one of the most iconic hotels in Yellowstone National Park, this place gets high marks for ambiance. The draft and bottle list is pretty decent, focusing on mostly regional brews.“

“Really impressive place to visit, one of the best national park I've ever been.“

56 /100 ROOSEVELT LODGE
“Grabbed dinner and a beer here. The little lodge is a perfect log cabin construction, with a couple large fireplaces, stonework, and cozy ambiance. The waiter was a little addled and forgetful, but generally friendly and capable. The little bar in the corner is poorly stocked - no taps, and just a few bottles and cans. 8 local craft beers, a couple regional crafts, and the standard lineup of macros. Thankfully, the beer list highlights the craft beers, and the macros are shuffled to a small liner note. The food is delicious and hits the spot. The menu is less fancy than Lake or Old Faithful, and focuses on game, steak, and hearty fare. Prices are better than the ’fine dining’ places in the park, which is a relief. This is a nice little nook, and it’s absolutely worth it to grab a beer and relax in a rocking chair on the front porch.“

64 /100 LAKE HOTEL
“Had a beer with dinner in the dining room, then grabbed some comfy chairs in the sun room for another beer and to watch the sunset. The servers and bartenders were very friendly, although the poor waiter taking care of the sun room was terribly overworked. Standard beers on tap and in bottles and cans, but they do have a couple extras. The dining room food is fantastic. The food is expensive, but not horrifically so, and the beer is surprisingly reasonably priced. This is a very classy location, and yet the sun room is really comfortable. It’s hard not to settle into a seat and lose hours.“

54 /100 GRANT VILLAGE
“Stopped in here for a late dinner, with no reservation, so we killed some time in the little bar attached to the restaurant. The restaurant is very cool looking and open, and the bar is dimly lit and cozy. The bartender was friendly enough, but was much more interested in talking with some other park employees than with serving me. Six taps, which are all the park standard beers, so nothing special there. The food in the restaurant is pretty excellent. The beer is a little pricy, but not bad at all for inside the park. This is a very chill little bar tucked away in an often bypassed part of the park, but it’s worth a quick visit, if you’re in Grant Village.“

Canyon General Store (Grocery Store)

“Stopped in here briefly, on the hopes for a better spread than the other general stores. It does, barely. This shop is poorly laid out, crowded, and the beer is tucked into a neglected corner. No service to speak of, but I wouldn’t have expected any. They do have a couple of bombers and a handful of interesting things, but generally the cooler is full of macros and very common craft. Prices are surprisingly reasonable, though. Certainly the best place for bottles in the area, but that’s because there’s nothing else in the area.“

“A helpful counter server was probably the best thing about this place, although it is not horrible, just a restaurant to wait for Old Faithful’s next eruption. Montana beers were offered somewhat preferentially to macros.“

Grant General Store (Grocery Store)

“Well, if the other YNP general stores are in here, I guess it makes sense to add this one. The map below is wrong, by the way. I can’t get it to show up correctly. But it’s the southernmost general store in the park, and the one we used because we stayed at Lewis Lake Campground. The food and beverage section is kind of in the middle along the back, and then the beer is tucked in the back corner of that section. There’s a little wood stand with 750s of Grand Teton stuff and a few other regional craft large-format bottles. There are singles and packs available of some Wyoming and Montana stuff on shelves and in the fridges. And then there’s some macro stuff. And that’s it. Nothing special. Coolers and ice also available. The cashiers are friendly, but you’re not going to find anyone who knows anything about beer. Still, if you’re not from the area, you’ll probably see something you haven’t tried before, and the prices are good enough that it’s worth grabbing something.“

“I was in Idaho Falls for a really great beer fest, and there wasn’t much happening on Sunday. So I decided to take a non-beery trip to Yellowstone, which I’ve always wanted to visit anyway. I did a tour with a park ranger in an open top 1920’s Ford, and the tour started at the Lodge next to Old Faithful. Stopping in for some sustenance before the tour, I spotted some local beers - consumed one in, then took several away. This place is Federal property, so it’s not subject to local blue laws. Selection is small, but bigger than zero!“

“Well, I guess it gives me a Wyoming tick, but honestly, this place is nothing to write home about. A few locals, pretty picked over when I was there, and some shitty macros to round things out. MEH with a capital M.“

Canyon General Store (Grocery Store)

“I visited several stores in Jellystone in June 2012, the year I set out to rate a place in every state. This trip was a three-fer, centered around a terrific outdoor beer festival with local and regional RateBeerians in Idaho Falls. No liquor was served on Sunday, so I toured the Park in a 1920’s Ford convertible touring car driven by a Park Ranger. On the way out, I hit a place in West Yellowstone, Montana. The surprise was seeing local craft beer in Yellowstone Park itself, at this and other stores - all in bombers and 12 ounce bottles. AND, being sold on a Sunday, shock and horror! Thankfully, federal laws were in play. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and even looked through the back for more beer. Prices higher than average, but not abnormally so, considering the location. Not sure how you’d judge ambiance, since the store I spent the most time at was in a 100 year old log cabin lodge with these geyser things going off all the time, interrupting the beer drinking. ;-)“

“All the Yellowstone General Stores are similar, beer wise. But this one not only had everything available in singles (break the pack), but it had bombers as well.“

62 /100 2 OLD FAITHFUL ROAD
“Why? Cause this general area is not very good at providing craft beer to take away. Especially singles. Which this venue does. You’ll get a few locals which are quite good. Takeaway food is available. Good luck on getting this good a selection within 75 or more mlles. If you are in the park, and staying out of the park, stop here to get some beers to take back to home base.“
