“Osset run pub in back streets of the northern stretches of the very walkable small town of Elland. If you’re trying to find this place by road the best way is to come off at the Elland turn off on the Dual-carriageway linking Halifax to the M62 high up on the hill, and take the opposite road to that that takes you into Morrisons Supermarket at the first set of lights. The area is full of small businesses and terraced houses, all of which blend in, but the pub is well signed. There’s a couple of rooms in the small pub, both served by the ’L’ shaped bar on its different sides. The larger front back room is where you’ll have to go first though to view the half dozen or so ales available on the hand pumps, which are mainly from Ossett or one of the other breweries it owns in West Yorkshire, with a guest also available on my visit in January 2017. It was a popular place with the locals on my visit.“

“One of two Sam Smith’s pubs in Elland and this one is on the very edge of the town so less obvious to the visitor, although as it’s right up on the canal it will be of interest to those taking a boating holiday as you can moor up outside it. Located up the road from the Barrel and Barge it’s a welcoming enough pub with two sides serviced by the same central bar area. The drinks are all from Sam Smith’s brewery including their cask bitter, numerous keg ales and some bottles as well. It’s not that exciting but serves its purpose and is not a bad place to spend the night if you end up mooring here. Has a car park and outdoor area right up on the banks of the canal, although if you’re walking here be aware that the canal towpath is not on the same side as the pub.“

“Sandwiched between the canal and the fast moving Calderdale Way, once a brewpub carries both its own ales with a fine rotating selection from Yorkshire and beyond, it now just concentrates on the latter aspect. Despite the dual carriageway being a stones throw away it has a superb location perched right above the Rochdale canal and it’s hard to see why anyone with a narrowboat wouldn’t stop at this Elland pub given the pretty location it occupies. For those travelling by more popular forms of transport there is a car park and it is walkable from the main bus stops in town. It’s predominantly wooden in design with mix of boards and carpets on the floor. The bar is central to the building and ales are spread out on all three sides of it. It’s open plan with several defined areas to sit in, although if a table is available overlooking the canal than it’s worth grabbing one. Food is available.“
