“Visited Spring 2014. (Technically, there should be a separate entry for the brewery and the biergarten, as the latter is managed independently and the brewery itself is a closed operation that only does on-demand guided tours, no samples or draught pours). Steadily expanding and modernising successful regional operation splayed along the remote coastless Hochschwarzwald riviera along the busy L500, petering out into blissful CH tax havens. Decided to explore this origin of the Southwest’s best hoppy lagers and landed in a meticulously spotless Bavarian-style Biergarten, complete with giant Brezn and fine obazda, only lacking the easy atmospheric charms of its Bavarian neighbours. A mere 3-4 of 9-10 beers in production available on tap "at the source" here, as the Biergarten restaurant on the brewery’s premise is franchised to a family of professional and quite upscale restaurateurs, who have a somewhat sterile idea of biergarten dishes, already well priced towards the monetary border a few kms down the road. Hence not quite the mecca for the fan of yeasty Waldhaus Ohne Filter Extra Herb as I had imagined: no unfiltered beer versions to be had on tap. No on premise sales besides single bottles sold at above supermarket prices; tours offered for larger groups only. - 2015 renovations&expansions: curious what will change for the better and whether the living, breathing brewery character of this place will finally come to life a bit more. A look at the founder/owner’s smug peroxide smile next to a TV chef on their posters and newspaper ads really does give you a good idea of what to expect here.“

“On a bus route from Waldshut - one that runs every day, this traditional "Brauhaus" lies on the main B500 road. The beer garden is reasonably spacious and nicely enclosed giving a warm feel. The full range of Waldhaus beers are available and also for take away in bottles. The food was varied and excellent, service prompt and efficient. All in all an excellent detour out of Waldshut and well worth a visit.“
