“What else could oe do after yelling the name ’’Miranda’’ a few times atop Hanging Rock. This was a pub in all its glory. Accommodation is there to be booked atop the tidy and tight brewery which is currently being expanded to the rear of the property. The bar itself a carpenters wet dream with pale timber from floor to ceiling. A tasting paddle pretty much takes you through their list, though a few more limited releases were on tap to be enjoyed in pint form. Takeaway’s available too as is merchandise which I am always a fan of. Traditional, simple menu, though the food was solid and tasty. Good service with an air of the familiar, but lost, country way. Really impressed by Holgate. From humble beginnings to the expansion happening today, I predict more surprisingly good things to come.“

“What a great pub! About a dozen of their own brews on offer - all excellent - and a solid wine list with a good local selection. The food menu was reduced on the night we visited but still, what we ate was good to very good pub fare. All in all, well worth making a detour for.“

“Very impressive brewpub that has a very cozy atmosphere. There are about 9-10 beers on tap with a couple drawn from the hand pump taps. The selection of beers is quite good across the board. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about their beers. The meals served are quite good. This brewpub is well worth checking out.“

“Nice country pub feel but with the added bonus of being a more than decent brewpub. Lots of their beers on tap with a couple of seasonals and bottles in the fridge. Also a guest tap (from Mornington when I was there). Busy, without being overrun and the staff were friendly and seemed to know what they were serving. Didn’t havea any of the food or wine but both looked good.“

“Great craft brewery with amazing meals to back it up - hand pump on premise makes for an interesting take on their beers. Yum.“

“Authentic style brew pub serving 9 beers on tap with a few seasonals too. Tasting paddles of 8 are available for around 10 bucks. Very hospitable and friendly owners and very nice locals too. The beers were tasting excellent and the quality is strikingly better than in the bottle, with two being served from the hand pumps. The food is average though. It was quite busy being Friday arvo but a good vibe around the pub and there’s outdoor seating outside to escape the crowds if need be. A fantastic place and great to see some new exciting beers coming out of this brewery. Good stuff.“

“Excellent pub. Typically old English in the heart of a small little Australian town. All the beers on tap are Holgate Brewhouse beers. The brewery operates in the back and tours run monthly. A very fine place for some fine food and very fine beers.“

“What the other dudes said. This might be Victoria’s best genuine brew pub? All beers on tap and mostly at very reasonable prices. Tasting paddle available at $10 for 7 x 90ml samples. Hand pumped Winter Ale and ESB is a nice touch. Excellent range of local wines as well. This place has an excellent relaxed vibe and it’s great to see the locals embracing the concept (note - I am a born and bred Victorian country boy and can attest to non-city folk often being intolerant to something different from the mainstream).“

“This is a great place for a beer. The atmosphere and the food are excellent. I agree that the beers on tap are far superior to those in the bottle, but strangely the beers on cask (Old Pale Ale & Winter Ale usually) are quite disappointing.“

“This place is terrific. Stopped by on the way back from Melbourne to Canberra one evening, and really didn’t feel like keeping on going. The beers are excellent on tap, the bottled versions really don’t do justice to them. The food is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced, the bar is cool, there is a great loungroom with wood fire and nice secluded dining room, also with wood fire. If only this were my local!“
