“Really nice taproom is historic downtown Cedar Falls. Small with a few tables outside. Good selection of their own brews and cocktails.“

“Charming downtown bar with high cielings and great beer selection. Occasional tap takeovers are special events but on everyday nights, you can get beers you cannot get outside larger cities in the midwest.“

“A great, if small, college bar with frequent live music and community events. Specializes in local/ regional beer like Confuence and Surly. Bar top is made from refashioned bowling lane slats. Small patio out back. Pinball games and friendly people.“

“January 2015. This is my third or fourth stop here since June 2014. Their beers are fresh and clean, drink pretty good, the staff is friendly and knows about the beers, and it’s a neat place downtown on Main. Definitely stop in if you’re in town.“

“January 2015. Lately this has been my go to stop in CF. They have a great selection, competitive prices, and the last couple of times they have had really knowledgable and friendly staff. I will definitely be back here every visit!“

“Very tame place to stop in and have some fresh beer. Bartenders have always been nice, helpful, friendly. Cheap prices for what you get. Good beer overall. Clean. Minimal seating, could see it getting quite full when busy.“

“Singlespeed is our go-to spot for a good local beer, particularly when company’s visiting. Most of the beers we’ve had have been pretty good. Love that the selection changes regularly. The beer cocktails have been fab: thanks for introducing me to the concept. I love the renovated space but you skimped on the furniture.: the tables are exceptionally wobbly and bar stools and chairs could be used for as devices of torture they are so uncomfortable. Singlespeed is a small space that gets loud and crowded at times, but there’s usually a place to stand and lean while sipping a brew. Food (most beer-ingredient appetizers) is good but incredibly inconsistent. FYI stuffed mushrooms shouldn’t be raw. And bartenders are just about the least smiley/friendly of any I’ve met but no matter how busy they seem to keep up with service.“

“Very cool brewery tap room in downtown Cedar Falls. This is quite a small downtown, but the brewery is the star even with just a 3 barrel system. Nice interior, very friendly and helpful assistant brewer serving. Very good beers and a solid guest list as well featuring Iowa beers. If in the area, stop by. I liked this place a lot.“

“Good location, and a decent selection of Iowa craft brews. Cleaner than the Waterloo location by far. They even have some homebrew supplies. Not a huge selection of brewing supplies, but it’s something. The guys working there seem knowledgeable. Although they hadn’t heard about the ratebeer app. But by the time I left at least one was already downloading it. I will check back to see if it improves the stock“

“Stopped in on Oct. 21, 2012. Small singles selection - mix and match for $2/bottle. Larger selection of bombers and 6-packs, but I wish they’d break up more of the 6’ers into singles. Solid place to pick up a few Iowa beers.“

“Not bad, but sort of rinkey-dink. They have some decent beers, its just the whole set-up of that store needs changed.“

“Ambiance isn’t really much to speak of, the service was good, most of them seemed knowledgeable. The beer cooler compared to the liquor section was that they had a sampler pack stand, one cooler of several feet of a row for craft/imports, a walk-in cooler, and the wine and liquor section was much larger. Decent but the beer section could be bigger.“

“Eh. If you ever go to UNI, you’re going to end up here. It’s convenient, and they have a surprisingly large selection of decent brews. The problem is that the service leaves something to desired, nobody knows anything about beer, and good luck even noticing the beer if you don’t know it’s there. You’re far better off heading to the Hy Vee Wine & Spirits.“

“Worked here for one year while finishing my Masters at UNI. The ambiance is to be expected - a relatively plain liquor store with goofy alcohol signs on the walls here and there. The selection is pretty good considering it’s Iowa and Iowa has those goofy 6% laws where any beer over 6% is taxed as liquor and must be ordered from the state warehouse. My presence greatly influenced and encouraged exploration and the finding of more and better beers. There is a small selection of homebrew junk, basically the essentials for last minute needs. The value is average - typical liquor store. The service is a mix depending on who is working that day. I knew about beer and wine, and the managers know about wine, but half the time it’s full of UNI students or community college students who don’t know much about beer or wine, or simply aren’t old enough to drink at all. Overall, it’s definitely the best liquor store in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area, but that’s not really saying a whole lot!“

“They certinally try, I get the feeling that sometimes they try more than others, but the selection is good. You can almost always pick up a few trappists and other odd singles. Generally speaking they have what almost every other Iowa store has, nothing to rave about. I did pick up a few 95’ triple bocks there for what that is worth. They also have a piddly little homebrew section behind the counter. Either way I do end up finding myself here whenever I am in my hometown.“

“One of the best places to buy beer in Cedar Falls, which is not saying a whole heck of a lot. But, I have a soft spot for the place. If you go to UNI, Live in CF, or somehow find yourself in CF you can get decent beer here.“

“All you need to know about this place is that it is a grocery stores liqour store. They have finally gotten a bigger selection of single bottles in the last year and a half but it is mostly domestic with a few macros. There really are no rare beers here so I don’t know why that is checked (may be rare for Cedar Falls), the import selection is quite small actually. Customer service is nothing special and most employees seem to know very little about beer. Location is convenient and you can go next door to get a bite to eat at Papa Murphy’s or Quiznos.“

“A good place to buy fresh beer when I lived in CF. They have however since gotten a new manager who doesn’t know a whole bunch about beer. He’ll tell us young guys about the new Budweiser products even when we bring up a six pack of Alpha King. I just bought a six pack of Fuller’s London Porter with a before date of Oct ’07. It was good, but nothing like my first one (famous words).“

“Located about 2 miles east of the University of Northern Iowa campus..right on University Avenue in Cedar Falls. The building and interior layout is really nice...with wide aisles and well-organized selections. The real beer is in the standing cooler right ahead of you (and to the left), when you walk in. Very good selection of 6-packs of microbrewed domestics, all in a standing cooler. Sierra Nevada, Rogue, Dogfish Head, Three Floyds, Goose Island, Anchor, Shiner, Leinies, Capital, Flying Dog, Summit, Hornsbys, MacTarnahan’s, Pete’s Wicked, Great Divide, Fort Collins, Buffalo Bill’s, O’Fallon, Left Hand, Pyramid, Sam Adams, Grant’s, Boulevard, North Coast Brewing, Grand Teton, Millstream, etc, etc... for nearly every one of the brewing companies listed above, there are at least 3-5 different selections. Have a decent European selection also. Overall, I am really impressed with their domestic selections, which they are adding to all the time. They regularly have beer samplings and do an excellent job of providing a wide assortment of seasonal beers as well.. The employees are friendly and quite knowledgable. The great location and impressive selection for a grocery store chain make it easily the most popular place to buy beer in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area.“

“The first time I stepped in this place was a few years back, I didn’t even see the beer. I thought it sold tobacco & magazines..because that’s what two-thirds of the store consists of...and their name doesn’t mention beer at all. I was somewhat stunned to find a rather respectable selection of Belgians.. They have a small, standing cooler full of Belgians & other imports..unfortunately it looked like they may have been sitting around quite a while.. The selection is decent, but the quality of the beer may not be so hot..there is definitely discernable dust on many of the bottles not kept refrigerated, and who knows how long the beer has been in the coolers.. They have a so-so selection of domestic micros..most of which are in a cooler across from the Belgians & other European pints. Service is marginal to bad.. the staff are mostly college students who don’t seem to care much about the beer they sell..unless it has "Bud" or "Miller" in the name. Overall, Hill Street News & Tobacco is decent at best. If you’re looking for some imports that may be hard to find in the area, it’s worth a stop in to take a look around. Chances are, you’ll find something you haven’t tried before..just be prepared to brush the dust off the bottles.“

“It’s a college POS liquor store that just magically has different imports that are heated up to above 90 degrees before stuck in the cold as ice cooler which makes everything taste like crap and I was sick of wasting my money and time there so I stopped going. I was however in my younger days (before 21) I was able to purchase of a good Samuel Smith’s Imperial and Oatmeal Stout... somehow.“

“This small tobacco and magazine shop has a few shelves of decent wines and many large displays of dozens of great beers from around the world. It is very disorganized, for example, the last time I was there I found out that if you look through the boxes underneath empty boxes in the back of the store you will find a veritable treasure trove of beer that hasn't been sold and has repeatedly been slashed in price. Very nice, as many are beers that SHOULD be aged. Great selection of Belgian Ales and Abt/Quadruple, German Hefeweizen, and others. Plus it is right near my residence. Very convenient, very good.“
