“Visited on 6th May 2016. A nice large room in the hotel. It was nicely decorated but devoid of any punters or staff. Eventually they appeared and poured a pint. The beer range was OK with the same Borders beer on as Burts. As no-one was there the bar then closed after the pint was served. Might be better on a busier day but one I wouldn’t dash back too.“

“Visited on 6th May 2016. Large and popular hotel bar. Solid place built of stone, nice large bar with 4 beers on tap. Had a beer from Borders and Traquir House on tap a Tempest beer. Quality was good. A little pricy. Service was decent. A nice spot in town and the best range of beers we saw.“

“Large hotel on main square in a very pleasant town, the bar carries several Real Ales from Scottish and North East England micros, all in good condition on our visits. There is a nice little bottle shop in the vestibule area, I was given plenty of time to sort out the beers I needed, lots of patience was shown. Well worth a visit if in town.
Re Rate for Sept ’13 - The Bottle shop has now gone unfortunately, but the bar remains the best in Melrose in my opinion. There is a good range of well kept beers and free wifi.“

“Elegant hotel in the centre of the town, there is a small selection of fairly standard beers here, kept pretty well. This place is about the food though, which is terrific and served with panache, we had a lovely meal in here that will live long in the memory, but for beers, pretty average.“

“A rather posh lounge in a rather posh hotel in a rather posh Borders town. The clientele are mostly from the hunting & shooting brigade, and thats reflected in the decor, but don’t let that put you off. The beer and food are both top quality and both are very highly recommended, can be quite pricey tho! On my recent visits Deuchars & Caley 80/- plus one guest ale were available,London Pride & Taylors Landlord on my last visits.“
