“No cask ales available when we visited, although I believe there are usually 1 or 2 Islay ales on. Only beers available were San Miguel, Guinness and Tetley’s. Decent but overpriced malt list and a menu that reads beautifully but was spectacularly poorly executed. Do yourself a favour and go to the Ardview Inn which is significantly better all round.“

“Bypass the dive bar in the front of the hotel, and head for the cozier lounge bar/restaurant in the back room. Check the taps before you do, as each bar has a different set but you can order between them. The only reason why this deserves to be in the Ratebeer database is that there are only 2 bars in Port Ellen and this one has the Islay ales on cask. That, and, you’d never know to go unless you had a tip because on the outside the White Hart is just a hotel. They also have a decent selection of the Islay whiskys including a few that are no longer available at the distilleries. There are only 2 or 3 restaurants in Port Ellen and this is one so definitely worth knowing about.“
