Hostinec U Kohouta (Restaurant)

“A very popular place in a central area of HK, in what used to be Habsburg-era army barracks I reckon and is now being partly renovated. Quite a dark interior, lively, not precisely my type, but every table that wasn't already filled with people having fun, drinking, eating had reservations on it, so we settled by the bar. Good, quick service. Only 5 beers on tap - Kohout 10°, brewed by Kubík for them, 2x typical macro stuff, Rohozec and, as the special, Tvarg unfiltered 10° - some Prager ciders in the fridge rounded the selection. Weaker selection-wise than the other 4 places we visited, but the food's probably good enough (looked so), and as Otto said, reasonably priced, so might revisit for that at some point, but not the highlight of the trip.“

“Every towns needs and often has a place like this - a punky cellar bar with a very varied crowd, not fancy or trying to be, but with a great beer selection. Bit cramped first room, there's definitely more in the back with, as Otto says, pub games and so on, but we didn't explore. ...Interestingly... decorated toilet. Helpful, friendly lady at the bar. 12 taps, from a hit & miss selection of local / CZ beers (Mordýř, Valášek, Beskydský, Beer Factory Plzeň, Tambor), through 2x O'Hara's beers (for St. Patrick's). to a Funky Fluid Gelato and a tripel from Mont Blanc in France. 1 tap was for Amity (ex Joker) Cider, one was for a local coke. There are bound to be some ticks for anyone. Seemed to have a good selection in bottles as well. Very cool place (though I'm not sure all will like the atmosphere), and a must-visit - very easy to combine with Brána and Klenot.“

“Pretty much two/three places in one. The modern restaurant (reservation potentialy needed) linked to the brewery is on the ground floor of the main square (called literally Big Square), but this time we chose to go to the brewpub part (opens later), in the cellar, that you access through a passage to the left of the restaurant (that also takes you to the patio when it's warmer). Looks pretty good, classic vaulted ceiling cellar fare, but light enough. The tanks are on one side (en route to the toilets), the bar and the sitting areas on the other. The service was good, but we waited at some point for quite a bit for someone to show up - not sure what was going on. I think there are at least 6 taps. They had the 11° unfiltered (only available there and on fests sometimes), the polotmavé, the ale, the rotating sour (mango this time), a green version (infused with nettle) of their 12° unfiltered and a pretty nice Irish dry stout - it was St. Patrick's the day before after all. There are bottles to be bought as well, though the fridge is weirdly put away from the bar by the brewery. The beers were pretty good, not stunning - not sure that they are as experimental as they were when Mira was brewing. Food's available, classic fare, didn't try this time. All in all, as the sole brewpub, and a good one at that, a boon for the locals and a must-visit place in town.“

76 /100 STROMOVKA MARKET, VE STROMOVCE 743, TŘEBEŠ
“From the center, you can take bus no.16 direction Roudnička (or 18 direction Vysoká, which circles a bit around), exiting at Podzámčí station. 30 CZK per ride - and seriously, check the station for bus schedule for the ride back, especially on weekends - they don't go as often as one may think. Cross the main street towards what looks to be a modern bar patio - that's the Stromovka market, an area containing several bars/stores. The beer store/bar part is to the left of the main patio. Inside and outside seating - you can sit anywhere in Stromovka with your beers really. Unusual setup, but one that locals appreciate quite a bit, the place filled up quickly. Friendly, knowledgeable, proactive lady at the store, great service really. Only 3 taps - holding the Kluk 12° from the local micro Kubík - in very good shape, Delirium Red (!) and Sibeeria Lolihop. Remarkably wide selection in the few fridges, from a variety of Belgians, Schlenkerlas, to a couple of cans of Amager which they get from Valhalla. The CZ selection is good, well picked in general, if less wide than expected. This is a fantastic place for the locals, no doubts there - but is it worth a huge detour as a visitor? Well, if you're there by car and only for the weekend, sure. Sadly, no card payment, but a ČSOB ATM is right there. All in all, respect for what they're doing!“

“Conveniently open early on weekends, unlike nearly all other craft beer places in town, it's a classic CZ pub, all in browns, some paraphernalia, pleasant. The lady doing all the serving is a pro. Had those two beers "of their own" before (thx mcberko!) + a Sibeeria & Chroust beer, but the 6 others, including a Polish APA, were new ticks. Okay prices, especially for the lagers. Stuff from Agent, Dobruška, Valášek, Mordýř and Opivistan is all pretty much local, appreciating the focus on nearby craft, even if not all are great. Went for the menu, for some 179 CZK (7.40€), which included a tasty cream soup with leeks, followed by tasty sekaná (meatloaf) wrapped in bacon (so-so), and tasty mashed potato, again with leeks. Well executed - I don't normally eat leeks and this was tasty, so props to the chef. My friend's burger with pulled pork and fries (219CZK/9.05€) was quite good according to him, except for the slightly too dry/big bun from what he said. Very good fries. So, there should be good classic Czech food here in general. All in all, a must-visit when in town, higly rated with a reason.“

“I had my car, so because of Czech's no tolerance policy with alcohol and driving, I got a couple things to go. They'll fill their draft beers in plastic bottles for a very reasonable price (102 Ck for 0.5L pours of 2 beers, which includes a 6 Ck charge for each bottle). There was a pleasant woman serving me, who spoke decent English. I'd have liked to stop for a drink in, but the driving rules don't make it easy. A day later, the pilsner was still tasting good; the dunkel a little less so. If you're in HR, it's worth stopping.“

“Way out here in eastern Czech, you're unlikely to find a better bottle shop, but it's still not a great one. On one wall, there are all Czech traditional styles, unrefrigerated -- very cheap (€1-2 for most bottles). On another way are unrefrigerated, typical imports from mostly Belgium and Germany. And then there are a couple fridges with mostly 750 craft bottles from Czech and surrounding countries. Prices are reasonable. If you're way out here, it's worth a stop, but not worth a special trip out of your way.“

“I found this restaurant by surprise, whe i was looking for a warm place, a warm meal and a cold craft beer. It's a rusty place, where the chef is standing with his friends smoking oustside the restaurant. Although it was not on the menu, i got a vegetarian meal (fried cheese, a classic), what was very tasty. There were 7 czech an one belgian craft beers on tap, which were unknown by me -and all of them were fresh and for a fair price. It's not so cool, but very cosy and the beer is really great.“

“Restauracja z browarem. Bardzo ładne miejsce, przestronne. Obsługa bardzo życzliwa, może troszkę zbyt spoufalona. Jedzenie smaczne, elegancko podane.

“A specialized beer shop and pivotek. The staff are friendly and speak some English. The stock 200+ bottles. Mostly from East Bohemia, but some Belgian and other continental hard to find beers. The assortment is complemented by various beer souvenirs, such as beer passports. They also run an e-shop where you can order goods in advance, and collect in the store or have them sent to an address. They also have a huge selection of schnapps. Good prices. For beer geeks I would definitely recommend.“

“A cosy bar located in a side street near the river. They have eight taps serving and excellent choice of beers from the likes of Trilobit, Hostivar, Trautenberk etc. There is a perfect kitchen where you can dine on Czech specialties that they do not have anywhere else in town? Always nice service with a smile, even if they are quite busy. It is a nice alternative to the main tourist bars. Inside it is quite modern looking with large pine tables and bench style seating plus and eclectic mix of wooden chairs. plus in the summer there is a garden available until 22:00 that is nice and shaded. You can pay by credit card always a plus point. I would definitely recommend trying this place.“

“An oasis of peace and delight in a "rural" environment in the center of town. This is a cosy little cafe bar with only 4 tables inside, with a couple of benches outside in the small garden in front of the pub. Its quite modern inside with eight taps serving beers from Czech microbreweries that change regularly. Very good price's for the beers and food, The food is modern gourmet burgers, sub's and ribs. The is a great atmosphere created by the background music of old school rock. I highly recommend visiting. Oh and it's dog friendly.“

“This is a restaurant in the former buildings of the city fortress, reminiscent of storage cellars near the station in Breslau. Located right outside the main square in the centre. Inside it is a brick arch with large wooden beams. It is more a restaurant than pub, good priced tasty food in a modern Czech style. It is also the outlet of Minipivovar Kubík, plus a few guest breweries, so soem tasty Pivo is to be had. Nice service. A popular place, can be packed in the evenings and at the weekend. Definetely would recommend it if you are tired of the noisy city center atmosphere.“

“A beautiful little pub in the city centre. Inside it has vaulted ceilings and is painted a "forest" green colour, there are about 6 tables, plus you can chat standing at the bar. They have 5 taps serving beer from small breweries plus the menu changes constantly, with Pivo from the likes of Clock, Žamberk, Ředic, Mordýře, Potštejn etc Beer snacks are served. What’s not to like? It has a pleasant quiet atmosphere, knowledgeable and friendly service and the option to pay by card is really super. Well worth seeking out for a pint or three.“

“One of legendary places to drink Pivo in Hradec Kralove. An underground maze of a place with vaulted ceilings, as you go further into the pub the older it gets with bare bricks. The furniture is simple with bench style tables and chairs, The bar is centrally located with 10 taps and a couple of fridges full of interesting beers. Lots to do with a cool Jukebox, table football and darts all helping to create a cool vibe. Lots of traditional punk and student type's are normally in. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. No food but there are lots of fast food places nearby. A definite must do bar if you are in town.“

“Located outside the ring road, so about 30 mins walk from the centre. A small prefab pub with "covered beer garden" where you can enjoy a large number of special beers, which are constantly changing. Inside is quite cosy with normal chairs and benches, lots of beer memorabilia on the walls, a central bar with 8 taps and a large4 selection of chilled bottles. They also have some small snacks to soak up the Pivo! The side of the pork with beer is renowned, but there are also tasty sausages. Note they prepare cash to Card for payment. Service is adiquate!“

“A very pleasant place, very traditional inside with dark wooden paneling on the walls, vaulted ceilings and more dark wood furniture. There is also an outside deck area if the sun is shining. The atmosphere is pretty cool and friendly. They have 8 taps serving various specialties from small Czech breweries from a centraly located bar. The beer prices very good. The service is friendly and knowlagable. There is a modest food selection, at average prices. A Non-smoking place like most in Czechia now. It is very popular in the evening, so it is hard to get seat as a rule, all are reserved. I would definatly recommend!“

“This is a small family run micro brewery. That opens a small cosy tap room a coouple of times a week on Albertova Street in Hradec Kralove, were you will be able to taste up to 6 kinds of draft beers, which can also be purchased bottles or KEG. (Note:If you book prior to arrange you can visit at any time). The brewery consists of a two-vessel brewkit with the capacity for 400 liters, stainless steel fermentation and lager tanks which are hidden in the brewery background. They use traditional brewing methods providing light and dark, bottom and top fermented beers of various beer styles. Overall a great family environment, very friendly service, excellent beer, I definitely recommend.“

“A great place to have a beer in Hradec Králové. The brewpub is in the cellar of a historical building. Inside it is farly modern, with vaulted ceilings of brick and white plaster, the furniture is no frills pine and you can admire the huge steel brew-lit and beer tanks. They serve variety range of there "Klenot" range of Pivo. The beer is a reasonable price considering it is the very city centre of Hradec. The menu is Czech based but with a lighter gourmet touch. They have vegetarian options. The meals were beautifully presented and scrumptious. Great service from English speaking staff who are clearly proud of the place they work and the product they sell. All czech beer is good ;) but this was an especially enjoyable break from a market which is somewhat overrun by the Prazdroj breweries!“

Do minusów - możliwość palenia w środku. Miejsce popularne, wieczorami i w weekend zapchane, bez rezerwacji ani rusz.“

“Really nice place in the center of Hradec Kralove. Very good and cheap czech cuisine. Helpful and friendly service. When I was there the beer selection wasn’’t too impressive (mostly typical czech styles like tmave or svetly lezak), but the beers I had were decent. Bartender said they normally have more interesting selection - beers from Kocour, Matuska etc.“

“Cracking boozer in Hradec. With thanks to Carl for leading us there. We went through to Hradec for the Sunday game and stopped here before hand. Traditional Czech interior. Very welcoming and with surprisingly offbeat beers on tap. Schneiders Porter Weisse and a host of Czech micros. At one point, one of us spilled nearly a whole pint over the table. Once the initial trauma had subsided, the barman cheerily replace the pint. Integrity move. After the game, we received a police escort from the stadium back up the hill to the boozer. When we asked the police why, they said it was because they didn’t trust the home fans to leave us alone. Lovely town, lovely boozer. Well worth a visit.“
