“So I basically stumbled on this place based on a "nearby" google search; it was only later I realized that Elder Pine is a quality brewery. I pulled in well after dark. Outside was closed but the indoor taproom was open. Only two locals drinking. I ordered a dopplebock, another good luck choice given their penchant for dark beers. It was quite good.“

“Awesome brewery, with an awesome layout. Honestly one of the best places in the larger NoVA/DC area. I love the picnic tables out under the pine trees, makes a really atmospheric ambience. Their beers are seriously top quality as well -- especially their dark beers. They manage to do a number of wonderful stouts and porters without totally losing themselves in the pastry stout trend. So if you're a bitter fan you'll find some great black beer here, though they also do have a couple of pastry stout types. Also had good milds, ESBs. I like that they don't totally go over to the new trendy stuff, but seem to do everything well. Friendly service, prices decent. Inside ambience is cool too. Pints and half pours available. They had a good BBQ food truck when I was there as well.“

“This retail venue is located in a residential-retail complex called Downtown Crown, also home to Old Town Pour House (see my review). It is bisected, with one half wine, the other half craft beer - great selections on both counts. In front is a small bar area with a few high-tops, where you can order a wide selection of draft beers, many are local brands. There is a neat digital beer list next to the bar. They also have a small menu that offers cheese and meats. They will also fill growlers and crowlers. The aforementioned Pour House is right around the corner; in addition, there is a Yard House nearby. Not bad, for a region that was once a Beer Wasteland.“

“Ambiance: A roadside barn in "Gaithersburg" (more like Laytonsville / Damascus / Sunshine) smack in the middle of farm and horse country. It's within minutes of Waredaca Brewing (horse farm) and Brookeville Beer Farm (farm). Long modern pre-fab barn with a generous outside patio area (with hop lines). Inside is all old distressed wood, cool art, and a wall of barrels. Very nice atmosphere. NOTE: They are very pet friendly, but do not encourage children (from their website). Service: Good. One bartender, but she easily handled the 20 or so people there when we went. Selection: About 12, of which we tried 7. Two were 4/5, two were 3.5/5, and three were 3/5. Solid. Food: N/A Price: Very reasonable, consistent with the area. Overall: Great addition to the Olney/Brookeville beer scene. Well worth a visit if you're in the area. Add it to the Brookeville/Waredaca trip for a trio of great beer places all within 10 minutes of each other in beautiful central Maryland!“

“Located amid a residential-commercial development off I270, the Old Town Pour House is one of three venues that offers patrons an excellent selection of taps amid a rather generic sports bar atmosphere. It is a large place with a large bar, high tops and large windows that open. Service is quick and efficient; the servers eager to give you a taste of something that interests. Although, they had nothing that was new to me, they did have plenty faves, such as Founder's All Day and Old Speckled Hen Nitro. Still, an enjoyable place to quaff beer. I remember when this area was a beer wasteland. While I don't picture myself making frequent trips (I will return) it is still nice to have the Pour House around. “

“Nice place. Good selection of big screens if you want to watch a game. Food is good and service is decent. Beer on tap selection is good, but I wish they featured more local DMV beers. Couple annoyances why I marked it down a bit. First, the only tasting flights they offer are fixed. With their selection I wish you could choose. Otherwise it’s a solid place if you want food and a game to watch, but Downtown Crown is a 2 min walk away with more interesting taps.“

“New second location, just opened, for Beers and Cheers. 4 beers on tap so far, more to come, and a large selection of beers, including a large mix-and-match wall of singles. Lots of local craft and further afiield of course too. Will definitely come back soon!“

“Best bottle shop in MoCo in my opinion. Rotating drafts are nice. They have a great display that shows how much is left on each keg. Small inside area, but nice when it is warm outside on the patio. Pretty solid local and otherwise selection. Decent build your own six pack. Pick up a growler fill.“

“Nice neighborhood place. Was really disappointed they didn’t have some of the limited releases on tap I wanted to try but had them at other Dogfish Alehouses.“

“Just about as good as it gets in Montgomery County. It has a great selection, with lots of drafts. They have a neat board which shows what is on tap and how much of the keg is left. I sat outside one evening. The doors were open so we could hear the live music. Sat there, had some rare beers (rare in general, extinct by Montgomery County Standards--Alpine Nelson??). I can’t say enough. They serve limited nibbles, but that’s okay.“

“Late lunch after doing some shopping in the area, a new Chicago-based restaurant bar near the Harris-Teeter by Washingtonian Complex. Pretty large inviting place, table seating inside/outside and a long bar for the 70 taps. Pricing a tad high (~$8 a pint) but half-pints are offered. Food was decent, service was good and left trying some new beers. Overall a good experience, will come back again.“

“I really liked this place when I went there last night. The beer selection for Montgomery County is the best. There are tons of big TVs behind the bar and the service was great. It is a bit loud, but who cares. Food is very good.“

“This place was a freaking zoo on St. Patty’s day. I was faced with the decision of waiting an hour for a table or pushing my way in to the packed bar. I chose the latter. Good selection of DFH beers; at least 10 bottles to do with the 10+ taps. Prices a bit high, but not bad. Service was good considering the crowd.“

Ambiance: Upscale strip mall in an up and coming part of Gaithersburg at the end of the ICC. Inside is very spacious, with the exception of the area right in front of the beer coolers. Store is divided into thirds: beer to the right, wine to the left, bar area in the back. Well lit, nice decor, wide aisles. Service: Only dealt with one of the several employees on duty--the guy who rang me up. He was surly and distant, which is generally expected at higher end beer stores. The staff at the bar seemed friendly, although it was crowded and I was in a hurry so I didn’t stay for a drink. Selection: Pretty darn good. I didn’t see any true rarities that surprised me, but they seemed to have any and everything that can be had in Montgomery County. I follow them on Facebook, and they appear to switch out a new keg at least every other day or so. Food: Not quite sure if they serve light appetizers at the bar. I think so, but I can’t confirm. Value: For this area, actually pretty good. About 15% cheaper than, say, Rockville Gilly’s. Overall: I love a beer store with a bar that also fills growlers. Going to have to come back to check on that side of things, but initial impressions were extremely favorable.“

“Nice restaurant serving Dogfish beers. Decent sized bar with some bar-side tables. Decent beer selection with Dogfish staples, seasonals, and some of their more uncommon brews. Food was good and comparable with the VA locations. Friendly staff. Good amount of free parking in the lot.“

“Though it is another bland building in that suburban mall mode, the place has the cozy feel of a crowded local. The staff are friendly and helpful. The selection while good is of course limited to Dogfish.“

“I have finally visited all three DFH Alehouses with our stop here today. This one is two-story and could be disguised as an office building. We were seated promptly but unfortunately our server had many tables, so service was slow. The beers were fresh, though a bit cold, and the food was awesome (as it is at all their places).“

“Visited about a month ago, closest location to my home. Always busy when I go, expect at least a half hour wait. Once in the service has been good, plenty of DFH beers on draft (always changing, check website), and the food has been decent (typical American dining fare). Pricing is a little high IMHO but for the occasional DFH rarity worth it. We go a few times a year, not about to change.“

“First trip to the Gaitherburg location. Small bar area that was packed for a Friday. The service was good though. The bartender was jokingly a dick to the non beer drinkers which is always appropriate in this sort of establishment. Beer was good and food was good but it is very expensive. I wasn’t surprised but someone else may be. Worth a stop if you want some real beer.“

“Stopped in for lunch prior to a wedding. A large restaurant spice with dark wood accents throughout. Server we had was good if not particularly knowledgeable. There were a large number of Dogfish head beers available on tap and in bottles. Food was good but nothing to write home about. The prices were a bit steep IMO. A nice stop but nothing special.“

“Always has the full lineup of Dogfish beer available on draft, plus offers to Dogfish versions of black and tan’s - Chicory/90, and World Wide Stout/120(although that costs about $20). Food is solid, and for the area is a solid stop in. Not a destination unless you never can get Dogfish Head beers.“

“My first time at a satellite DFH location. Much more generic than Rehoboth, with a good variety, but no brewpub one-offs like the Delaware location does. Still, there’s not much else in this area, so it’s worth a stop.“

“It’s got a good selection for Montgomery County, which isn’t saying much. Prices are high even for Montgomery County standards. Pepe knows his stuff when it comes to beer. I just wish beer was more reasonably priced in Montgomery County.“

“Some friends and I were in Rockville for other reasons and decided to stop at the Dogfish Head Alehouse on the way home. It was fairly crowded being about 9PM on a Saturday night. Wait for a table was 25 minutes, and they give you a buzzer if you choose to wait so you can wander. We chose to go in and stand at the bar and have at least one beer. Two stools at the bar opened in front of us in short order and we took them. Then shortly after the two stools next to us opened up so all of could have a seat. Bartender was very friendly. We intended to eat but were not famished so we decided to order 4 separate appetizers and just share. The appetizers were all quite large and tasty, and none of us left hungry. I give them high marks for selection; even though it’s only Dogfish Head beer (obviously) they do have a great selection of their line on tap and the others are available in bottles. And there are things on tap that you don’t see (or I havent seen) bottled like Olde Shool (a 15% barleywine) (later note: apparently they do bottle Olde School) and a Black & Tan. The menus suggest what beer will go best with each item on the menu, a nice touch. I intend to go back.“

“This small store has a surprisingly deep selection of quality craft brews. The owner is a really nice guy and knows what his customers want. He has offered to order beer that I was looking for and he didn’t already carry. Prices are on the low side of the MoCo standards and they offer a discount on Sierra Nevada and Flying Dog 12 packs- $1 off compared to 2 x 6 packs. The selections listed look about right to me as of 12/30/11.“

“Small place that sells bombers and six packs, but really specializes in wine. Excellent service, the owners are great -- knowledgeable, attentive, friendly. Good value - can purchase to take away or drink in the store. Can bring own food or have appetizers from a deliberately limited menu. Recommend as a laid back place to enjoy a good beer.“

“Nice place. Great selection of Dogfish Head beers on tap as well as one of the few places to get Alehouse 75. Good food and nice environment. Seems to be more of a family place than a drinking establishment. If you want to learn about the beers more in depth I would try sitting at the bar for sure.“

“Great place, only drawback is that I would love a few more choices... Maybe just more seasonals in lieu of all of the real eclectic specialty brews and do something about the acoustics... Can be too loud to talk. Excellent food... Never disappointed in many visits. Value is decent, probably good for the area. Dogfish beer is consistently good and they have alehouse 75 on tap typically which is a favorite. Service is always good as well. Well done.“

Ambiance : The place looks very much like a Chili’s or TGIF, albeit with a strictly DFH decor. Food: The food is sort of your standard chain fare along those lines, and some of it is just average (chili). However, there is a wide menu and some of the stuff I hadn’t seen elsewhere, or was better done than I’ve seen in other places. The portions are HUGE. I ordered the brat on pretzel bread, and it came with two (plus a small cup of chili and chips). The nacho plate was as big as a newborn baby. But you’re reading this for the beer review, not the food. Selection: Plenty of DFH staples on tap, including the Lawnmower Light, which I haven’t seen widely available elsewhere. Also had a bunch of seasonals on tap and rarities in the bottle. Service: The service was excellent and QUICK; the food and beers came right away. The waitress was friendly but not annoying, and extremely knowledgeable. She indicated the servers are required to taste all the beers, and are encouraged to become familiar with their characteristics, so as to better inform the customer. Value: Some of the rarities were pretty expensive ($9-11 for a glass, $20+ for a bottle), but overall it was very reasonable. Overall: First visit, suitably impressed, will certainly return!“

“This is a simple package shop. Since the road construction ended, more traffic flows here and the owner has made a great successful attempt to get more and more craft beers. This is where I go for all my brewery mixed 12-packs since it’s right next to my work. It’s great they are diversifying in a big way! Most mixed 12-packs are available cold, just ask. It’s not much for hanging out, but if you want to try something new, stop by and grab a new pack of beers.“

“Dogfish Head creates some of the tastiest and most adventurous beers on the market today. The Alehouse has a great selection of these beers, including all of their seasonal varieties and some of their hard-to-find offerings. My personal favorite is the India Brown Ale, a compilation of IPA and Brown Ale styles that is just wonderful. The food is typical bar fare, and is pretty average. I recommend the calimari appetizer and the Alehouse Burger, although these are a little on the expensive side, as I marked down in my review. Next trip I have to try the Dogfish Trio. The Gaithersburg location is a little lacking in the ambiance area as the bar is a tad small and the upstairs dining area is nothing to write home about. Bring some friends though and you hardly even notice your surroundings though. Overall great selection of Dogfish Head ales and some decent food means a good dining experience in my book.“

“Most standard dogfish head beers on tap although they have been out of the 60 minute my last 2 visits. Food is good and portion size will fill you up. Draft prices tend to be high but if you stick with their ipa’s and stouts they are probably on par.“

“As others have said, the selection is disappointing if you’re looking for hard-to-find brews on tap. However, their regular draft menu includes a black and tan (chicory stout over 90-minute ale) and the alehouse 75 (half 60-minute, half 90-minute... get it?). The biggest problem is the price - $5 or more for drafts, outside of happy hour. There are rare bottles available, but you’re going to pay a premium for them.“

“I was a little disappointed here since I love dogfish so much. The real disappointment was that they only had their standard beersno raison d’extra, no immort ale, or any other beers i really wanted to sample and the spring beer was already gone. It was also fairly standard ambiance. That said, the beers they do have pour extremely well and there is some good food. It’s more than worth a visit, it just doesn’t live up to what i’d expect from dogfish.“

“Typical brewpub restaurant, typical Applebees-ish service, and not THAT great of a selection of beer, especially if you’re in the market for some of their harder-to-find brews. I’d go back over and over, but don’t expect to be blown away by the staff’s knowledge of their more esoteric brews (or beer in general) and definitiely don’t expect superb service.“
